Ads crave a night on the tiles; vintage chicken, avocado or contemporary stone effect?

We might be craving tiles, but we'll leave the woodchip and artex alone unless we're feeling very brave...

Welcome into another thread covering the whole range of life and death, novelty vegetables, DIY, any other randomness and musings about a certain pandemic.

@wanderings

All shops are supposed to do it, but I bet many don't.

I myself would be sorely tempted to make a witty retort to the staff member, but I know that she's doing what her boss has ordered her to do, who in turn is doing what Uncle Boris has ordered her to do. But I probably would not buy anything. I am very much voting with my wallet: the dementory shops do not get my money.

Is it law or guidance?

I’ve been thinking about New Year. Am I right in thinking Tier review is 16th and then 30th?

LivinLaVidaLoki · 05/12/2020 17:55

Thanks for the virtual kicks in the ass everyone. I have now completed my assignments.
The work really was done, I'd done the research scoped out the content and drafted a structure all I needed to do was type the bloody things. They are now done.

It felt so hard as I've no motivation lately. I don't know if its the samey ness of every day or the relentlessness of work (that just makes me feel so exhausted that trying to make myself do anything much more outside of that is sometimes impossible).

But thank you, I feel so much better now.

LivinLaVidaLoki · 05/12/2020 17:57

@AcornAutumn that's right. The first review on the 16th with changes coming into effect on the 19th and the 30th with changes a few days later.

I'm never really sure how I feel about this tbh. Surely they should be evaluated two weeks after the initial evaluation then implemented two weeks after the initial implementation. So for instance changes evaluated on the 14th, implemented on the 16th and so on and so on.

flower11 · 05/12/2020 18:01

Reedwabler Sorry for your loss and the circumstances surrounding his last weeks .

I'm starting to wonder what the point of the vaccine is if it's not going to make any difference to restriction, or is it just until they think enough people have had it? Or will cases go down anyway as we head to easter and they will claim vaccine success.

Ah - so that wouldn’t knock out NYE things?

Interesting. Thank you.

Anyone seen the "how long are the tiers likely to last" thread?

I can't believe the amount of people who still think it will be years? Where is the money for constantly closing down going to come from?

Yes and now I feel thoroughly depressed
JamSarnie · 05/12/2020 18:56

For my own sanity I am avoiding those threads as well as the BBC articles saying masks and SD will still be mandated even when people have been vaccinated.

Some people really love all this shit.

SirSamuelVimes · 05/12/2020 19:00

I am refusing to believe it. Vaccines have been touted as the way out of this. I will no longer comply with restrictions once the vaccine program is complete.

The IMF probably. No one cares about ordinary folk but a lot of the national debt will be cancelled I think.

Germany have done furlough for two years. Or are you thinking past two years? I’m not thinking that, but two years, sure, the length of the Coronavirus Act.

I find false hope the worst possible thing. Remember the “stay alert” phase where you could wander about with no masks?

I was in a very dark place in lockdown and masks nearly sent me there again. Optimism in this case does me no favours.

Our only hope would be massive massive protests and too many people are scared of the virus so that won’t happen.

I think that both main parties will have to field a whole new field (!) of candidates for the next election.

AcornAutumn · 05/12/2020 20:47

Going totally off topic

My computer isn’t doing well

Can anyone here click on ticket booking? I’m pretty sure it’s my computer- but the tickets are probably too expensive anyway.

SirSamuelVimes · 05/12/2020 20:49

Not just you, Acorn, the book tickets button doesn't want to work for me either.

AcornAutumn · 05/12/2020 20:50

Thank you Samuel

Iheartmysmart · 05/12/2020 20:58

I’ve just tried. Cheapest tickets I can see are £65 for the matinee on 15 December! Eek!

bluetongue · 05/12/2020 21:28

AcornAutumn the curfew in Melbourne has now ended but there were some there that spoke out against it. The latest over the top regulation there is masks in the office - currently they have over 30 days with no new cases.

Another totally random question

I just watched A Streetcat named Bob.

It was mentioned that it’s harder to come off methadone than heroin, so I was wondering why methadone was used as a way of helping to come off heroin?

Is it safer or something like that?

MercyBooth · 06/12/2020 00:08

I plan to continue to turn up to the ballot box but to spoil everyone of my ballot papers at every election from now on. Im that furious.

BogRollBOGOF · 06/12/2020 00:14

I had to hold my nose to vote a year ago. The only thing that stopped me from spoiling was knowing that the seat has a 17,000 majority, and about 800 voting for my usual fall back party is inconsequentual anyway.

I have spoiled for Police Commisioners because I never hear anything about the candidates and it doesn't deserve a proper vote.

In 21 years of voting, I've only missed one council election because it was a struggle to make it to the polling station that day.

Much safer in terms of it being a being a source of reliable ingredients(no hidden nasties), obtained through regulated suppliers (Boots won't threaten you with violence), free (so no crime needed to source), same dose in each batch etc (so no chance of going over if you use the correct dose). Plus the added benefits of having to be engaged with services in some way to obtain it, meaning they can offer therapies/other support for housing/physical health etc.

@Blobby10

Went into my local Joules shop today for socks- saw a rather snazzy looking hat and tried it on. Went to put it back and a sales lady (who had crept up silently behind me) said (in an unnecessarily snappy tone IMO!) ‘we have to quarantine it now you’ve tried it on’ and snatched it away. Have you ever heard anything more ridiculous? It was a hat! I wore woolly gloves! I was muzzled! How on earth was my hair going to pass fucking covid onto a hat?!! Didn’t hang around it to buy what i went in for after that as didn’t dare touch anything 😳
There is lots of weird stuff. I did the school run the other day. It was lashing down with rain and I had a golf umbrella (using both hands as it was windy too). The poor staff member at the school gates was getting ready to spray my hands with anti bac. I said 'the only thing I'll be touching is this umbrella' and kept walking. It seemed to throw her completely as she said 'I'll need to speak to management about this as other parents are wearing gloves' (ie can't spray them either). I just don't get it. We walk into the playground for two minutes and walk back out again, there is nothing to touch!

Missed that one but read the similar "when will schools get back to normal" which quickly descended into madness....
Reedwarbler · 06/12/2020 08:52

Anyone who proffers sanitising gel at me gets my best bitch face and a sharp 'NO'. It plays hell with my skin. Tesco's have suddenly started doing it after all this time. I can tell you, I have trained myself very well over the years never to touch my face after touching their trolley handles. I remember that tv programme a few years ago when they tested all the various supermarket's trolley handles and found all sorts of horrors on them, including faecal matter on Tesco ones. (plus of course things like MRSA and strep.)
Funnily enough, Waitrose were the cleanest.

Orangeblossom77777 · 06/12/2020 09:09

I confess I did start the one about BBC articles but that was due to hoping for reassurance it wouldn't happen! Not a great idea 'over there'I guess. I must stop reading the BBC. Sticking to the good news one and here for now. I started having panic attacks reading some stuff recently and it is not good to be like that.

Orangeblossom77777 · 06/12/2020 09:11

I liked a Streetcat named Bob. The book is good.
