We might be craving tiles, but we'll leave the woodchip and artex alone unless we're feeling very brave...

Welcome into another thread covering the whole range of life and death, novelty vegetables, DIY, any other randomness and musings about a certain pandemic.

I haven't caught up on the thread yet but I'm irritated and want to moan about it somewhere.

I went into town today and the council have stuck signs on most of the lamp posts with a festive picture saying 'Don't gift covid this Christmas'. It's put me in an inexplicably vile mood. It's not like anyone is allowed to forget about covid anyway but do we really need it tagged onto the festive decorations too? I'm sick of it all.

Seriouslymole · 04/12/2020 15:51

@bakingcupcakes - I'm not surprised - that's horrible and would have put me in a foul temper too (doesn't take much at the moment!).

DS asked for some branded masks for school in his stocking. I've said no, he can have them but nowhere near Christmas. I refuse to let covid into our Christmas.

Orangeblossom77777 · 04/12/2020 15:59

Ours has just kind of been like a normal secondary in terms of classes moving around, they have to eat in a certain area though it seems - weird how it is different. It is all a bit mad.

@Iheartmysmart

I used to have a classic mini which had been lowered, had massive wide tyres and was great in the snow. Now have a relatively modern car and it is useless!
I have a mini cabriolet so it is very heavy and close to the ground, fine in bad snowy weather. My RAV4 was the dogs bollox in the snow we rescued many a neighbour towing them out of ditches in the snow. Still sad they stopped producing the three door.
BogRollBOGOF · 04/12/2020 16:22

I'd better find a hot water bottle and prepare it for lurking in the car during karate. It's only 300-400m from home so the car won'rwarm up, but I have to drive so I can loiter on site. We always used to walk unless the weather was particularly disgusting.

Best car I ever had for snow was an old fiat Punto. I put cheap snow tyres on it and it was like a mountain goat, could go anywhere.

I was entertained by dd's class teacher today. I asked about handing out Xmas cards, there was some half hearted 'we probably shouldn't' and then she just shrugged and said "or just hand them out in the playground instead". Excellent!

Aztectrousers · 04/12/2020 16:25

What about this then? A neighbour in the street had a friend over yesterday and they were socially distancing on the driveway having a chat. It was cold, pissing down with rain and said friend then produced a flask of coffee or something which she proceeded to drink from her own cup. Ffs just go in the house!! Who cares.
Dh couldn’t understand what I was irritated for because they were only following the rules. It wasn’t that I was annoyed with them for following the rules, just that it’s fucking ridiculous that things have come to this. Soaking wet, cold and stood in the pouring rain just because people need companionship. It makes me so sad.

Had to go to collect dog from groomers, then wait in chemist for prescription, then off to Asda so mask worn for two hours. Now I have a sore throat. Why does wearing a mask give me a sore throat every damn time?

they are allowed xmas cards in Ds's school. They have to be in by a wednesday so they can quarantine them for 48 hours and give them out on a friday......

you know, in a room full of 5 year olds who probably occasionally lick each others faces.....

My fil died early yesterday morning. He died essentially of the injuries he has received in the uncaring hands of the NHS and an assessment centre/care home. His arm was broken in 2 places up by the shoulder and was causing such pain he could barely move. He was too frail for further surgery (after having both his broken hips repaired within 8 weeks) so he was just given palliative care and lots of painkillers, and died of pneumonia.
We are pleased he no longer suffering, and as a very old man his life was probably going to end soon anyway, but not in such terrible pain and away from his family. By the time my H was allowed in to see him he was virtually senseless and unaware he was there. If he hadn't been totally befuddled by alzheimers, he would have wondered who he had upset to spend the last few weeks of his life in a total hell of the 'caring professions' making. As it was he spent a lot of time crying and saying he just wanted to go home, and where is Mr reedwarbler.
It's a good job we don't know what the future has in store for us, isn't it?

Reedwarbler I am so sorry for your loss. I am sorry that the end of his life was so traumatic for all of you, this wasn't the end he deserved. It is so sad hearing everything that happened to him. I hope you and your husband are able to provide one another with comfort xxx Flowers

BogRollBOGOF · 04/12/2020 17:38

Reedwarbler Flowers
I'm sorry that it was such a distressing ending to his life in recent months, especially that so much was unnecessary.
I've felt the relief of a family member passing on when they'd gone beyond the stage of enjoying pleasure, but what was never going to be easy should not have been made so distressing Flowers
