Tested positive but need to get out, is this okay?

I’ve tested positive for Covid-19. I don’t know where I’ve got it from as I’ve followed the rules rigidly. I wonder if one of my children is an asymptotic carrier.

I feel quite rough but I’m not in bed. One thing I always do is a lot of exercise. I walk or run about 8 miles a day and without it my mental health deteriorates rapidly. I paced round and round the house and our tiny garden to do 10k steps today and the thought of trying to do that tomorrow is making me anxious.

If I set the alarm for 6am, do you think it is acceptable to go out for a walk? I live rurally so can take a head torch and go down lanes and tracks where I’m 99% sure I won’t encounter anyone and there is no need for me to touch anything, no gates etc. I will wear a face mask. DH says it is too risky in case I have an accident of some sort (I’m not sure how) or need aid. He thinks that would be putting others in danger. He does agree the chance of seeing anyone is very remote.

What would you do? I have to stay in don’t I?

I get it @Puffler re the exercise and feeling mentally much better if you’ve hit a target (whatever it might be). I get the struggle of having to stay in - we think dh had covid in May and everyone has to isolate/quarentine. Dh in our room and me in the house with two under 3. It was awful. I was climbing the walls. I spent as much time in our garden as I coukd. But I missed walking and running. The change of scenery. Etc.

But if you are I’ll it could do you more harm than good exercising. Wait for the negative test. Then start again gently. I get the 10k steps thing. I usually average 15k a day. But that’s at work in the office. Wfh I’m lucky if I get 6k. So need to get out snd walk and clear my head.

But. Wait. Can you listen to white noise and meditate in the garden to block out the kids noise? I hear you (just - kids noise...!) on this one too. Sometimes for me my anxiety levels spike and everything is so so loud. Today we had duplo being crashed about, tv, and the dc shouting. It was too much.

Get well soon. X

Please stay in x

Exercise bike has saved dh"s sanity this year. 100£ from amazon last year and he has done 1000 km on it so far, well worth the investment.

I would also strongly recommend a skipping rope like a pp, yes its not the same as going for a run but you can do it in the garden with headphones on, zone out and relax and set a target of a certain number of skips. Not ideal I know but doable for a little while.
Also call your gp if you need too, they can refer you to the mental health team or adjust your meds.
Goodluck, I hope the time goes quickly for you and you don't become too ill.

Jenasaurus · 29/11/2020 01:08

I have a friend who is CEV she walks her dog at 6am to avoid the risk to herself, it is scary to think she may bump into someone infected who thought it was also a safe time to have a run as no one would be around, please stay home, its only 10 days.

VivaMiltonKeynes · 29/11/2020 01:15

FFS just stay at home !

myhobbyisouting · 29/11/2020 01:16

My FIL is trusting that people who know they are infectious will stay at home. Even so, his health renders him extremely vulnerable so MIL insists he only has his walks at 6-7am when it's quiet.

And you want to go running past him because you can't utilise your home and garden for a few days. Fabulous.

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 29/11/2020 01:19

I don't think 6am is a 'safe' time to be out to avoid people. I leave for the gym (when open) at 6, and loads of people are out walking their dogs, even now.

Maybe 3am, power walking up and down the middle of your street for 20 minutes? But really, I'd just be skipping and beep running in my garden or doing HIIT stuff in my garden. That's what I did at the beginning of lockdown.

BlackeyedSusan · 29/11/2020 01:21

stay home. my autistic kid is staying home with no access to outdoors. for the third time for 14 days. go into your garden andbe grateful you can access the outside space. skip, jump, do circuits anything but stay the fuck at home ok.

housemdwaswrong · 29/11/2020 01:21

Stay in. Your argument about not seeing how you'll have an accident is irrelevant, abs you're mental health doesn't dunno anyone else physical health unfortunately.

I didn't expect to break my ankle while or for a walk but here i am. Pissed off at the people on here advising you to go out. Ffs. Bad enough people ignoring any rule that they think don't applies to them, but now people being actively advised to go out with a positive test. Hard hat?? Not much point in that.

This
How do you know what will or won't happen when you're out?
I say this as someone who is sticking to the rules, always have and intend to keep doing so but isolating means just that.
Isolating.
Not just I went out as I thought I'd be OK as I didn't think I'd fall down.

greenlynx · 29/11/2020 01:28

Please stay in. As everyone said you need to rest, you can have an accident and you actually can bump into other people. Some people deliberately go out or drive to quiet places very early, especially parents with autistic DC.

Yes you have to stay in. We have had to stay in, what makes you so special that you can go out? The rules apply to us all whether we like it or not.
IdblowJonSnow · 29/11/2020 01:29

I think youd be better off going for a very short walk in daylight than pissing around running in the dark.
Can you really not stay home for a few days? Do an exercise DVD?

paganbilly · 29/11/2020 01:31

I really think it would have done far far more harm for her to be confined to her room 24/7.

Rubbish. How do you what harm she could have done to the people she encountered ?

alexdgr8 · 29/11/2020 01:33

it is unwise to do any exercise while unwell.
it could make you more ill.
your body needs a quiet time to fight the virus.
so for your own sake as well as everyone else's, stay home.

tortoiseshell1985 · 29/11/2020 01:33

I think you can go out OP in the circumstances hope you are ok x

Kisskiss · 29/11/2020 01:33

Oh ffs. Just stay in

paganbilly · 29/11/2020 01:34

What about the people op could spread it to, do they not matter ?
caringcarer · 29/11/2020 01:35

Stay home and rest. Fun up and down the stairs if you need excercise. Don't be selfish and put others at risk. You could pass it on to someone who then goes on to die. ECB people often excercise very early in morning do they don't meet people.

notangelinajolie · 29/11/2020 01:44

FFS IT'S JUST 14 DAYS.
Hard I know but it's not all about you.
Stay in. That way, nothing bad will happen to you and thankfully nothing bad will happen to the poor sod you may run past on your little early morning jog.

jessstan1 · 29/11/2020 01:48

@Literaryseed

I don't see a problem OP. I can't see any risk if you're out early and don't go anywhere near anyone.
I agree with this but don't do your usual eight miles; you've been feeling rough and are still recovering. You must not overdo it and need to build up gently.. However moderate exercise and fresh air will be good for you.
viques · 29/11/2020 01:49

You need to get a skipping rope.

CountessFrog · 29/11/2020 01:56

I’d go, but I’m
More concerned that you will make yourself ill. You need to take it easy.

FMyUterus · 29/11/2020 01:59

You're just so selfish if you think you're different from the rest of the population. You actually have Covid and want to go out and potentially kill someone if they catch it from you? Yes the risk is negligible but it's there. God I hate people.
