Tested positive but need to get out, is this okay?

I’ve tested positive for Covid-19. I don’t know where I’ve got it from as I’ve followed the rules rigidly. I wonder if one of my children is an asymptotic carrier.

I feel quite rough but I’m not in bed. One thing I always do is a lot of exercise. I walk or run about 8 miles a day and without it my mental health deteriorates rapidly. I paced round and round the house and our tiny garden to do 10k steps today and the thought of trying to do that tomorrow is making me anxious.

If I set the alarm for 6am, do you think it is acceptable to go out for a walk? I live rurally so can take a head torch and go down lanes and tracks where I’m 99% sure I won’t encounter anyone and there is no need for me to touch anything, no gates etc. I will wear a face mask. DH says it is too risky in case I have an accident of some sort (I’m not sure how) or need aid. He thinks that would be putting others in danger. He does agree the chance of seeing anyone is very remote.

What would you do? I have to stay in don’t I?

Situations like these are why we will NEVER be free of lockdown measures in this country. Ffs.

Op, glad you've decided to stay in. Honestly, I'm more concerned by your "need" to walk or run 8 miles every single day. That sounds a bit unhealthily obsessive, to be honest.

clarehhh · 01/12/2020 10:23

Stay home and do your bit, think if something happened you are endangering ambulance crew.

knickerbockerglory33 · 01/12/2020 10:32

I hope you are OK OP.

I completely understand where you are coming from and would feel exactly the same. I go out every day around 6am for a run since lockdown started and have not yet seen a soul (or thankfully needed aid!). If I had Covid I would probably continue with this regime (if I was well enough to do so) due to the above reasons.

For people who say doing this is why it is spreading - this is ridiculous - the reason it is spreading is not people going out for a walk in a rural area, not touching anything and not seeing anyone!

As for the 'need' to walk or run - I suggest it is more a desire, to give the endorphins so badly needed during this period of SAD (yes i know going out at 6am with a head torch doesn't help towards SAD!) people may not like it being called 'mental health' but mental health covers a range of issues and agree that some people have it worse than others. But if something helps, regardless of how bad the MH issue is, then it should be encouraged if very low risk?

Hope you get out soon, i would be going stir crazy. Best wishes.

My 6 yr old is CEV. We’ve pretty much stayed in since Feb!! Yes. With a child. A small garden. Her drs say because if we go out we might encounter people who are Covid positive but refusing to stay in. Then it’s lockdown. Then it’s the letter which say to stay in

So we’ve been going nearly a year. You can do a few more days.

Simplyunacceptable · 01/12/2020 11:20

My Nan hasn’t left the house since March. She sits and paces around the garden but that’s it. She refuses to leave until she can be vaccinated, she had cancer last year and her thinking is she isn’t going through all of that and surviving to then be killed by a virus. Fair enough. If people can stay inside for months, you can stay inside for a few days. Don’t be selfish.

Shell4429 · 01/12/2020 12:59

I do exercise dance videos, they’re energetic and fun. Look up Zumba workout on YouTube. You need to stay home.

Justbrutallyhonest · 01/12/2020 13:12

Stop whining, try being disabled and having chronic health problems and being under near lockdown rules for 16 years and unwell, then hearing everyone go on about mental health health when they’ve benn inside for 30 seconds, yawn

But she's choosing to stay inside. There's a difference really. And there was absolutely no need for her to do that 🤷‍♀️

It's pretty urban where I live, and DS is self isolating (he is a sporty 15 year old) and he does all sorts in the garden. We got him some boxing equipment, he does various circuits, uses a skipping rope, weights, does all sorts of Joe Whicks type exercises. You could try with that first and see how you feel - Running is great but it's one form of exercise. There's a lot that would use different muscle groups. You might find it satisfying.

Indecisivelurcher · 01/12/2020 16:18

I made my 6yo stay in for 14 days because her dinner lady tested positive... I can see where the op is coming from, but it does piss me off if people with positive tests are going out?! Enough to comment on a thread that's already 19 pages long...

ODFOx · 01/12/2020 16:35

If you have symptoms, rest. Even if you are ok but feeling rough, rest. You will bounce back quicker if you rest. Your DH is right that if you are 4 miles from home and collapse you won't be found for ages or may infect anyone who comes to your aid.

Don't risk your long term physical health for your short term mental health when you know you have Covid with symptoms.

ODFOx · 01/12/2020 16:40

God sorry. Stupid phone only showed me the first page! Cancel the cheque!

Bluehues · 01/12/2020 17:46

It’s so bad for your heart to exercise when you’re unwell, be careful

Clarityiskey · 01/12/2020 19:34

You "wonder where you got it from"? Probs someone as selfish as you who also didn't stick to the rules. Do everyone a favour and be more responsible and stay home. Hope you are better soon.

roxanne119 · 01/12/2020 19:37

This is a joke right just for a response because you have to be kidding . Do what it says on the tin. You have COVID stay in. Doesn’t matter what time of the day you go out . 🙈😬☹️ If you collapse if you need help if you need medical services you have COVID 😳 isolate Isolate ISOLATE !

Rache49 · 01/12/2020 22:06

You need to stay in. You say yourself that you feel a bit rough. As an avid reader staying in wouldn't be a problem but I would have to remind myself not to leave the house. It is tough but not as hard as being in Hospital.

LovelyIssues · 01/12/2020 22:45

Of course you should stay in Angry

AdobeWanKenobi · 01/12/2020 22:47

Three days later and some of you still can't read a thread. Hilarious.

You'll still be berating the poor OP when she's finished isolating. In fact some of you will probably pile in over Christmas.

itsagirl2014 · 01/12/2020 22:54

I know for a fact that in the unfortunate event of an accident or you becoming ill while out running with Covid (you have lost your mind btw), the paramedics or any NHS worker WILL report you. Can you afford the fines and embarrassment? Just follow the advise the country wants and needs you to follow.

Ginfordinner · 01/12/2020 22:56

I agree AdobeWanKenobi

I have my settings so that the OP's posts are highlighted in a different colour. I don't use the app on my phone, but just access it through my browser, so I can still just read the OP's posts if the thread gets very long.

It's just ignorant really to feel such a sense of inflated self importance that you are far to busy to actually read the thread but you simply must give your opinion anyway.

It's so simple isn't it? Either highlights OPs posts or use the see all feature that's in the first post. But no. Read first post and pile on in.

FlibbertyGiblets · 01/12/2020 23:14

It is embarrassing, all the berks who think that reading the whole flipping thread is beneath them. Criiiiinge!

AuntieStella · 02/12/2020 06:04

OP: I hope you're doing OK, and I hope you are reading the comments of those who have clearly not RTFT with the same amusement as those of us who are just the bystanders.

Shatandfattered · 02/12/2020 07:14

Hi OP, I know it's probably a silly suggestion but would searching for videos of runs looking over the sea or into the horizon help? Sort of GoPro footage on YouTube? Perhaps some earphones and your phone screen in your hand while doing laps of your garden may help with the serenity whilst getting your steps in. It may seem a strange suggestion but whatever helps for anxiety do it I say, it's bloody crippling! Wishing you a quick recovery

Puffler · 02/12/2020 07:54

Thank you to those wishing well and offering solutions.

My garden is very small, maybe 6 foot wide so I can’t do laps and I’ve not been outside for several days at all now. Feeling pretty rough as it all seems on my chest. From my initial cough and feeling fine day one, I feel pretty shit now. I’m WFH as it gives me something to do and I have a lot on. Hoping to start feeling better soon, as both physically and mentally feel in a pretty dark place.
