Tested positive but need to get out, is this okay?

I’ve tested positive for Covid-19. I don’t know where I’ve got it from as I’ve followed the rules rigidly. I wonder if one of my children is an asymptotic carrier.

I feel quite rough but I’m not in bed. One thing I always do is a lot of exercise. I walk or run about 8 miles a day and without it my mental health deteriorates rapidly. I paced round and round the house and our tiny garden to do 10k steps today and the thought of trying to do that tomorrow is making me anxious.

If I set the alarm for 6am, do you think it is acceptable to go out for a walk? I live rurally so can take a head torch and go down lanes and tracks where I’m 99% sure I won’t encounter anyone and there is no need for me to touch anything, no gates etc. I will wear a face mask. DH says it is too risky in case I have an accident of some sort (I’m not sure how) or need aid. He thinks that would be putting others in danger. He does agree the chance of seeing anyone is very remote.

What would you do? I have to stay in don’t I?

If you don't meet anyone how can you spread the virus? Go out.

Nohomemadecandles · 02/12/2020 08:36

@Puffler hopefully this is the worst of it though. Another day closer.

No one can 100% guarantee not meeting anyone or as suggested upthread falling ill and needing help.
It's simple to understand - if you test positive you have to isolate.
And OP has already said the time has passed now.

I hope you feel better soon Flowers

It’s around Day 10 that it can turn nasty. I wouldn’t risk going out because 1) you are to quarantine for others safety and 2) You may feel okay enough to go out but there is no guarantee you will be well enough on the return home. You really need to take it easy - covid can be a marathon.

Puffler I hope you feel better soon.

Ignore the ignoramuses wanting to kick you, they are horrid people.

Why not start a new thread saying you've had covid since [date] and would love some support?

Peridot1 · 02/12/2020 09:31

I am sorry you are feeling so bad both physically and mentally.

I think exercising when you feel so bad is probably not a good idea. As other up the thread pointed out it is really not advised with COVID.

Hope you are on the mend soon.

Another thread might be a good idea. Hopefully you won’t get the pile on on a thread just asking for support. Lots of people will feel the same way you do.

randomsabreuse · 02/12/2020 09:34

Definitely don't exercise with active Covid unless you want a lot longer off exercise. Focus on recovery, don't be physically active, rest.

This chat, not AIBU - for those that need reminding that someone ill with covid doesnt need kicking.

OP illness depletes vitamin D levels, if you have any supplements it may be worth taking an extra dose daily until you feel better. Covid can also linger in the gut and that's important for your immune system. So I have prebiotics I plan to take if I get covid. Might not do anything but worth a try.

You need to keep up the resting and the fresh air. Can you take a few days off work and just rest? Gentle stretching exercise done lying down wont hurt.

There are breathing exercises on you tube. You may need to speak to your gp about how you feel and whether you could have a chest infection on top of the covid. Do you have an oximeter, can you check your oxygen levels? Some phones apparently have an ap that does that.
