Do you put your presents under the tree?

I've always just put them under the tree but OH thinks they shouldn't go under the tree until the night before Xmas?

I put them under the tree a few days before Christmas. I only put the tree up on about 15th December.

MarjorytheTrashHeap · 24/11/2020 15:39

Presents from Grandparents, extended family etc go under the tree when we get them. Presents from Father Christmas (us!) get put under there after the DC are in bed on Christmas Eve. Part of the fun is waking up in the morning and checking "if he's been".

TeenPlusTwenties · 24/11/2020 15:40

Only on Christmas Eve after the DCs are upstairs.

They get in the way otherwise.

No, we don't have space and it would be in full view of the street as we have it on a corner table at the back of the room (we leave the blinds open more in December so the lights can be seen from outside).

Bunnybigears · 24/11/2020 15:41

All presents go under the tree on Christmas Eve otherwise they may get eaten by the dog, or invite burglars.

ginsparkles · 24/11/2020 15:41

As they arrive they go under the tree. I remember as a kid the excitement of seeing the presents arriving under the tree! So now I buy ours, wrap them and put them under the tree.

ShallICompareTheeToASummersDay · 24/11/2020 15:41

We don’t, but only from a security point of view as our tree is in the bay window at the front of the house. Otherwise I would put them there from others but not from FC and not from us

RumJerrySailorRum · 24/11/2020 15:43

Only adults in this house, so in order to save room presents given to us go under, and presents I've wrapped to be given out go under too.

I wouldn't put any under the tree until Christmas Eve however if we had any FC believers in the house.

Moonlightandstardust · 24/11/2020 15:43

Everything apart from Christmas stockings from Santa goes under the tree here. As they come in usually but may wait a while this time as I think my kids are likely to open them otherwise

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 24/11/2020 15:43

A couple from friends etc, but the bulk go out Christmas Eve (us, Santa and family). Space reasons really. Living room is an awkward size... Perfectly big enough until the tree goes up.

wendz86 · 24/11/2020 15:43

Christmas eve when kids are asleep.

Babdoc · 24/11/2020 15:56

They went under the tree as they arrived when the DC were little, so a growing pile as Christmas Day approached. Only the stocking presents were deemed to be from Santa Claus, so the stockings remained empty until after the midnight service at church.

Sparklingbrook · 24/11/2020 15:58

Presents from/to other people under the tree, so friends etc. Our/Santa presents to DC when they were little we got out on Christmas Eve night and put on the sofas

CMOTDibbler · 24/11/2020 15:59

No, not at all - we open presents in the bedroom

TheStripes · 24/11/2020 16:00

I’m quite disorganised with wrapping, despite always promising myself I won’t be, but I do try to get some presents under the tree just so it looks a bit nicer.

anothergloriousmorning · 24/11/2020 16:02

Not until Christmas Eve. Because that's when Santa comes!

Doordine · 24/11/2020 16:02

We keep them in a cupboard until the kids are in bed on christmas eve and then they go under the tree. If we did it earlier the kids would open them, they are too young to resist.

SlippersForFlippers · 24/11/2020 16:09

My mum would put presents from other family members under the tree then add ones from her on Christmas Eve ready for when we got up.

exhaustedbutstillgoing · 24/11/2020 16:17

I like the idea of just stockings from Santa!

OP posts:
TeenPlusTwenties · 24/11/2020 16:20

Just stockings from Santa does make things so much easier.

KitKatastrophe · 24/11/2020 16:20

When we were an adult only household, we put them under the tree when the tree went up.

Now we have 2 young kids so we dont put them under the tree until Christmas Eve. Mainly because its exciting to come downstairs and the presents have all "appeared" rather than 20 presents were there already and 2 more have appeared.

But also to keep them out of the way of the baby trying to eat everything, and so we dont have to explain to the toddler why she cant open them yet.

KitKatastrophe · 24/11/2020 16:22

P.s. we do have stocking just from santa and other gifts from everyone else. It makes things much easier e.g. not having to hide loads of presents or collect them under cover of night, not trying to explain why they have to say thank you to gran for a present from santa etc. But all the presents appear on christmas morning, whoever they're from.

2anddone · 24/11/2020 16:22

The presents that I have wrapped to give to friends and family go under the tree once I have wrapped them. Presents we receive go under the tree as we get them. Presents from me to the dc and from fc go under on Christmas Eve once they are in bed.

VenusClapTrap · 24/11/2020 16:23

Christmas Eve after the kids are asleep. That thrill of seeing the big pile on Christmas morning is one of the great joys of childhood. I can still vividly remember that feeling.

KittenCalledBob · 24/11/2020 16:25

In this house Santa brings the stockings and the presents from me and DH. But presents from anyone else (family and friends) go under the tree as soon as we receive them.
