...and the best they came come up with is Mrs fucking Brown! A Les Dawson drag act from the 70s - it wasn't funny then and it still isn't now.
Surely they could have done better?

Ghosts!!! We love that show in this house. Are you a bit of a half glass full sort of a person OP? Whilst I agree that Mrs brown's boys is the biggest pile of shite ever made there was some stuff in there that's ok as it ever was.

I adore Mrs Brown and her Boys! Yes he is a little crude now and then, but the whole premise of the show centres around family life doesnt it ?Cathy and her looking for a suitable BF .Mrs B always hoping that she will find one! Dermot and Rory navigating their same sex RL. Winnie and her one liners and so on! At the end of their show they all say God Bless to us and out own families as well.

I don't understand. There's loads of programmes mentioned on that link. You've focused on one you don't like, which I don't like much either, but lots of people do

This
Must be something you like?
I think Mrs Brown is a load of crap too, but there's new Dr Who and Vicar of Dibley! Yay, love both Grin

@kleew1

I thought there was going to be a 2 doors down christmas special... Love that but realise it is probably not everyone's cup of tea!

There is a Two Doors Down Christmas special, my mate worked on it! It was filmed in West Calder, for all you lovely West Lothian MNers.

I was quite excited. Ghosts, goes wrong show, motherland, upstart crow, sewing bee and dd loves repair shop. Black Narcissus sounds amazing (have read book and seen film previously).

Throw in a strictly repeat show with great dances and a few musicals which I'm sure they will wheel out and combine with the Crown which I am saving and I'm looking at a good time.

It's the best comedy ever. I love it. People who hate it just don't or can't understand the humour at all. I don't understand why anyone would hate it.

It must be really hard for them this year when there’s less TV being made and increased demand for it. Agree that Mrs Brown and Miranda are the most annoying people on TV though!

Wait what, SEWING BEE?

I love that show!!!

Why moan about Mrs Brown's Boys? You might as well moan about Coronation Street. It's a popular juggernaut in a world of multiple channels and options. I've never watched it, and I don't plan to. Buy the Christmas Radio Times, hide away for a few days hours with some chocolate and a highlighter pen, and plan your festive viewing extravaganza like a normal person.

There's a 1603 plague edition of Upstart Crow which should be good, and the Vicar of Dibley.

I think considering all the problems and restrictions they have done pretty well.

Normally we would never ever watch any tv on Christmas Day or Boxing Day. We spend the days with my family and would never dream on putting the tv on. We talk, laugh, play games etc. Opening the presents takes hours not because there are so many but because we open them one at a time with lots of talking and laughing inbetween.

This year it will be just me and DH so we may put the tv on.

But isn't there going to be a Vicar of Dibley Christmas Special? I heard it mentioned.

Fucking hate Mrs Brown. Awful bloody thing.

3 x 10 minute specials.

I don’t understand why Mrs Browns is seen as bad but the Drag race show is marvellous and ‘woke’.

Is it because the former is old? In that case this is ageist.

Neither programme interests me but the difference in perception does.

I don’t dislike Mrs Brown’s boys for the drag, but because it’s really, painfully unfunny.

I am astonished they've made so much, I'm really impressed.

Absolutely this.

I don’t like Mrs Brown’s Boys either, but there’s plenty of other shows to watch! It looks like they’ve managed a good range of shows given the COVID restrictions.

I'm looking forward to the Ghosts Christmas special. I watched the whole of Yonderland a couple of months ago (thanks MNetters for bringing it to my attention) but I've left the Christmas Special to watch at Christmas.

Exactly this. Some drag is appalling apparently, while the same thing in a different context is absolutely fine. I assume OP detests pantomime too. It’s just virtue signalling.

Frankly all womanface is crap and should be banned!

I am v impressed at the use of family members/body doubles, so thanks for sharing that snippet soupy

There's something about this Christmas that seems very End of the 70s, Winter of Discontent, restricted by strikes/powercuts etc, so perhaps Morecambe & Wise and Two Ronnies are capturing the zeitgeist there?

Hasn’t there already been a Mrs Brown Christmas special?

Haven't we been punished enought this year?
