BBC have 'pulled out the stops' for Christmas TV

...and the best they came come up with is Mrs fucking Brown! A Les Dawson drag act from the 70s - it wasn't funny then and it still isn't now.
Surely they could have done better?

Of course Christmas TV is going to be a lot of repeats this year, they haven't been able to film for the most of the year due to restrictions.

Your bound to find some thing to your liking on the thousands of other channels.

It's probably going to be at least another year once the vaccine is up and going before they can get back to proper filming and making new show and films.

ExclamationPerfume · 24/11/2020 07:08

Love Mrs Brown but can't stand Miranda or Dr Who.

Clutterbugsmum · 24/11/2020 07:09

Oh i'm sorry You're not your.

WitchesSpelleas · 24/11/2020 07:15

There are a couple of things I might watch - Upstart Crow and the Black Narcissus drama.

nosswith · 24/11/2020 07:18

OP, I think you insulted the memory of Les Dawson.

Calling Mrs Brown's Boys a comedy is a misuse of the English Language. Advertising it as a comedy is something that is contrary to laws on trade descriptions and false advertising.

lazylump72 · 24/11/2020 07:22

I think I would rather watch paint dry than the Beebs choices!

risefromyourgrave · 24/11/2020 07:23

God, I think Brendan whatshisname must have some dirt on someone high up in the BBC to keep getting Mrs Brown’s Boys commissioned.

But, I noticed that there’s a Ghosts Christmas special, so I’m very pleased about that.

sashagabadon · 24/11/2020 07:26

Looks ok to me and you may hate mrs brown’s boys - I do too- but millions of people watch it and love it. I think it was the most watched program in Xmas day last year

AlwaysCheddar · 24/11/2020 07:26

BBC is a pile of pooh

Oblomov20 · 24/11/2020 07:28

Is that IT? SadAngry

nosswith · 24/11/2020 07:29

@sashagabadon public executions were quite well attended in the 19th century, but that does not make them right.

@risefromyourgrave the only other reason I can think of is that it is a cheap programme to make, even with the tax dodgers in the cast.

Standrewsschool · 24/11/2020 07:33

Love Mrs Brown boys, and find it really funny, and touching as well. Also love Miranda.

We all have different likes and dislikes.

PuppyMonkey · 24/11/2020 07:35

There’s a couple of dramas that look worth a try there... but once again, Doctor Who, Call the Midwife, Mrs Brown’s Boys. The same as it’s been for about how last ten Christmas Days.Sad

Thank God for streaming services.

PuppyMonkey · 24/11/2020 07:38

*the last ten

RaspberryCoulis · 24/11/2020 07:43

The cast of Mrs Brown are all related to each other so social distancing isn't an issue - easier to film. I can't stand it, but I know lots of people love it.

Stopped watching Call the Midwife about 5 years ago, never liked Dr Who.

Very excited about a Christmas Sewing Bee and Repair Shop though!

WitchesSpelleas · 24/11/2020 07:46

@Oblomov20

Is that IT? SadAngry
No, there'll almost certainly be ten repeats of The Best of Morecombe & Wise Grin
SoupDragon · 24/11/2020 07:46

Mrs Brown's Boys is outdated with its "Les Dawson Drag Act". I have sniggered at it occasionally when it's been on after something I've watched and have been too lazy to find the remote. It should be scrapped for the drag aspect alone though.

There are lots of things in that article I'm looking forward to though!

SoupDragon · 24/11/2020 07:47

I love the Christmas Repair Shop - they make presents for a secret Santa alongside the repairs.

tortoiseshell1985 · 24/11/2020 07:49

Looks crap tbh
Socially distanced CTM?
Right.....

SoupDragon · 24/11/2020 07:56

There's no reason CTM can't be done with social distancing. EE have done a good job of socially distanced filming. They use screens, "Body doubles" with the actors' real life family/couples hired specially and shooting a scene twice with separate actors then merging the two shots. It looks slightly odd if you're looking for it but I find I just ignore it after a while.

Reedwarbler · 24/11/2020 07:59

I like Ghosts too, so I'm pleased there's a christmas special. I think Call the Midwife is a load of sentimental twaddle, can't stand it.
I don't know why they call them treats, looks like the same old same old to me.

PawsAndPhytoncides · 24/11/2020 08:06

Ah well. I'll watch or do something else instead....

MoonJelly · 24/11/2020 08:09

I too hate Mrs Brown's Boys, but I can get over the fact that there is one programme on TV that I don't want to watch. It's not as if there are not loads of alternatives both on other channels and on streaming services.

I'm quite pleased they're having a "best dances" Strictly. Their normal Christmas specials always seem a bit pointless to me - no-one cares who wins, the dances aren't that good unless the slebs are already dancers, and the judging tends to be a bit mad because they're not allowed to be perceived as nasty at Christmas.

EggysMom · 24/11/2020 08:13

I can kinda understand why they've gone with Mrs Brown's Boys again - it would have been easier to film, as much of the cast is related in real life and would have been in a social 'bubble'. So for example, Mrs Brown can hug Cathie as part of the storyline etc.

it all sounds a pile of poo to me, but that's why we no longer watch BBC.

LyndaSnellsSniff · 24/11/2020 08:17

Call The Midwife, Doctor Who, Mrs Brown’s Boys and Not Going Out have been standard Christmas fare for a good few years. No surprises there.

But Christmas episodes of Ghosts, Upstart Crow and The Goes Wrong Show are exciting!

I think Call The Midwife has run its course now. But having said that I’ll still watch it buried headfirst in a tub of Celebrations!
