Am I wrong to keep this secret?

DH on a long shift today, not home until about 8. Being the dutiful working from home wife I am, dinner has been in the slow cooker all day so he has a hot meal ready when he gets home.

After smelling it all day and feeling under the weather, I don't want it and I've ordered myself Chinese to perk myself up.

Would I be totally unreasonable to scoff the lot (washed down with a bucket of wine), hide the evidence, and then proclaim how delicious the Spanish chicken stew was?

(Lighthearted, obvs).

If you drink a bucket of wine you might be incapable of hiding the evidence. Grin

Squirrelblanket · 23/11/2020 18:03

No I've done similar in the past when he's worked the occasional late shift. 😂

Yep.....horribly so!!

Tell him to collect it on the way home and go have yourself a bath whilst you wait!

I was always the same when DH worked shifts, never wanted what I'd cooked 😂He was always happy to collect the takeout!

JorisBonson · 23/11/2020 18:08

It's been eaten and was totally worth it.

The portion of dinner I was supposed to have is shoved at the back of the fridge, I'll take it to the office on Wednesday.

The Chinese containers are under an old rucksack in the outside bin.

Wine ongoing 😂

I've got visions of you with chubby hamster cheeks stuffed full of chinese trying to act innocent.

Go right ahead

bellalou1234 · 23/11/2020 18:09

Yes.. I do that.. heaven

Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 23/11/2020 18:09

But why hide it?

JorisBonson · 23/11/2020 18:10

A whole load of malteasers have also mysteriously disappeared, probably the cats fault.

How weird - why do you have to hide it?

TheGreatWave · 23/11/2020 18:16

You seem to have this down to a great art. It is not the first time is it?

Shines bright light into OP's eyes

"Tell me the truth."

justthecat · 23/11/2020 18:20

I have so done this 😂

JorisBonson · 23/11/2020 18:21

I don't have to hide it. I've had a food shop delivered this morning, a nice (healthy) meal cooking all day and because I'm a fat git I spent £20 on Chinese for one instead.

DH isn't likely to notice, nor care either way.

I repeat - lighthearted.

SMurphy91 · 23/11/2020 18:22

I've done this but always end up admitting it (sometimes weeks later!) Grin

LindaEllen · 23/11/2020 18:30

I can smell Chinese a mile off when DP has ordered a sneaky takeout when I've been doing something else - so make sure you've hidden this part of the evidence, too!! Hope you enjoyed :). Cats are notorious for nicking malteasers, by the way. Act surprised if your DH claims not to already know this.

JorisBonson · 23/11/2020 18:31

@LindaEllen mine has been known to nick cake, sweets, crisps, all sorts, it's terrible 😂

MrsMoastyToasty · 23/11/2020 18:35

Open all the windows and doors for 10 minutes to disperse the Chinese food smell. Then spray a bit of furniture polish into the air to create that "haven't I been productive? I've just polished the furniture" effect.

doctorhamster · 23/11/2020 18:37

Yeah you're going to fall down on smell op. My house smells of Chinese for at least 24 hours after the event.

Wyntersdiary · 23/11/2020 18:37

I have done this, i was desperate for a chinese but didn't want my husband to feel bad as he worked the night shift so kept it secret :D

DMCWelshcakes · 23/11/2020 18:38

Price's kitchen candles are your friend here.

Apparently.

Not that I'd know, obviously.

justthecat · 23/11/2020 18:41

Keep a wax burner behind the scenes at all time , like mine on kitchen windowsill

JorisBonson · 23/11/2020 18:44

There are candles a plenty lit to stop the house smelling like the slow cooker - I think I might have got away with this! He'll be home in an hour 😂

AudTheDeepMinded · 23/11/2020 18:53

Ha! I lectured my DH recently about eating the tonne of food at home and not buying takeout or shop made. I was very stern about the soup I'd made for lunch. I then accidentally bought Greek halloumi wrap and chips on the way home and ate it before he got back, oops.

momtoboys · 23/11/2020 18:54

You are absolutely not wrong. Do it. :)
