Cold left over roast potatoes

Rollergirl11 · 22/11/2020 20:39

I always sneak one off the plate and eat cold on their own with a pinch of sea salt. DH thinks I’m a philistine and they have to be heated up!

What do you do?

OP posts:
Oldraver · 23/11/2020 13:23

I have sliced them in half and used as a shepherds/cottage pie topping

TurquoiseDragon · 23/11/2020 13:29

I always make plenty. Left overs are good for munching on, or put aside as part of next day's meal.

pastandpresent · 23/11/2020 13:31

I actually love the cold roasted potatoes. But they are great in curry or stew the next day, so I always make more than enough.

Twobrews · 23/11/2020 13:36

I don't understand people who can't count - just roast enough potatoes for the planned meal

I don't understand people who don't understand leftovers.

WankPuffins · 23/11/2020 14:12

Have them in a sandwich.
White bread.
With lots of butter and salt.

StillSmallVoice · 23/11/2020 15:07

To the poster who dips hers in the salt pig - That's my dirty, sloppy (delicious) secret.

suggestionsplease1 · 23/11/2020 15:27

Sliced and fried to have with fish dishes, scampi, salmon etc.

Or use them as an ingredient in soup.

Or cold with mayonnaise, other leftovers and meats and salad.

Dairyleeapples · 24/11/2020 00:01

Having some for breakfast right now because of this thread, thank you to PP who suggest salad cream, first time trying it with cold roasties and it's pure perfection. Grin

'I don't understand people who can't count - just roast enough potatoes for the planned meal

I don't understand people who don't understand leftovers.'

I don't understand people who don't understand that people aren't entirely consistent on how many roast potatoes they will want with their dinner AND has no time for left overs.

I do like my mum.

Count. See. Count! 3 each more or less. Then extra in case hungry. Then extra for left overs.

Also size variance. I don't always chop same size. Also I prefer a big fluffy one DH prefers littler things which are kind of mostly the crispy stuff.

So these variables need to be taken into account also it's not a basic count. Maybe that poster could come up with a formula?

Or. Just do enough so that everyone has plenty and there are leftovers. Yay!

PirateCatQueen · 24/11/2020 00:18

Mmm. Not sure. Extensive further testing needed to compare hot vs cold.

I’ve already been testing this my whole life, so have experience and promise to report back as soon as there is a conclusive answer.

Oblomov20 · 24/11/2020 00:22

Yum. With Mayo. Or salad cream.
I too don't understand people who can't count: those that don't count a few extra in the first place!

NiceGerbil · 24/11/2020 00:23

I think 5 years research starting nowish, for initial findings, pirate.

Minimum.

NiceGerbil · 24/11/2020 00:27

Just thought of something.

Cooking to include leftovers in the hot oven is way more energy efficient and cost effective.

Double win for all the sensible people on this thread once covid Brexit hits and we're all skint.

My mum grew up at the end of rationing and I learnt her methods... There's probably a bit of that in there? Saving energy etc.

Just a thought :)

NiceGerbil · 24/11/2020 00:28

The amount of posters saying they enjoy their cold roast pots with salad cream makes me suspect there's something in this theory Grin

PirateCatQueen · 24/11/2020 00:35

As well as ongoing individual tests, I think a regular conference with packed programme of tasting sessions might be in order @NiceGerbil

TheSandman · 24/11/2020 00:40

'Left over roast potatoes...? No, Ted. I still don't get it.'

That's madness!!

You'd have none to eat cold or in sandwiches then 🙄

Oblomov20 · 24/11/2020 00:42

People questioning counting?
The thing is most supermarkets, for many years, sell bags of stuff : bags of potatoes or bags of carrots. So you just cook the bag.

lyralalala · 24/11/2020 00:43

Cold then dipped in garlic mayo or cold gravy.

I do like them heated up and on a sandwich as well. Lots of tomato sauce and salt.

WitchesBritchesPumpkinPants · 24/11/2020 00:49

@Lardlizard

Never ever had a single one left over !!
You're. Not making enough!!

I prefer the potatoes!
BestOption · 24/11/2020 00:55

Fucking hate being diabetic!!!

I can't eat them anymore 😢😢😢

Except for Christmas Day!! They have zero carbs on CD!! I'll have to cook my own this year though they won't be as good as as my friends. His are amazing with that extra but if amazing that comes from not having prepared the meal!!

...but the 'extras' will be MINE🤣

Nikhedonia · 24/11/2020 00:58

Dipped in garlic mayonnaise and it's the food of the gods 🤤🤤🤤

Is this serious....? Grin

Do you speak with all family members beforehand, and ask them exactly how many they want? Do you call guests up and get them to register the number of roast potatoes they will want - and, I’m assuming - exactly how much of everything else they will want to eat. Grin

Do they have to log if they want a second helping?!

Actually, scrap that. I’m guessing you don’t have many guests.

Nikhedonia · 24/11/2020 01:18

"Elizabeth, I am so glad you are here, but I couldn't help but notice you had an extra few mls of gravy there... you said you normally have about 75ml, but that looks a lot more like 78ml to me HmmHmm"
