Cold left over roast potatoes

I always sneak one off the plate and eat cold on their own with a pinch of sea salt. DH thinks I’m a philistine and they have to be heated up!

What do you do?

OP posts:
BarbaraofSeville · 22/11/2020 21:38

Fry up with leftover pigs in blankets, best Boxing Day breakfast imaginable with a fried egg.

sonys · 22/11/2020 21:40

Can I suggest cold with a little salt and maybe even a small piece of cheese!

Weebitawks · 22/11/2020 21:43

I make extra so I can have cold potatoes. As eat a roast pretty early, like 4/5 then the potatoes are a good snack in the evening

janetmendoza · 22/11/2020 21:44

Food of the gods!

haircutsRus · 22/11/2020 21:48

@nancybotwinbloom

I've never put salt on the left over ones. Nor had with salad cream! I've been putting them straight in the dish ready for bubble and squeak for the next day.

Will obviously try this.

My DD saw me eating chicken skin last week so I gave her some. She said "why have I never had this before" she is 7.

I said "chefs rules you can't cook yet"

Nobody else ever gets crispy chicken skin in this house. It is mine.

I call it "Cook's Privilege" Grin

Dairyleeapples · 22/11/2020 22:43

Love them cold with a tiny but of salt or smjshed up and put in a sandwich

Frownette · 22/11/2020 22:49

@nocoolnamesleft

The individual words make sense, but put together they do not compute. Could you explain what you mean by "left over roast potatoes" as this entire concept is bizarre in the extreme?
But we always purposefully do more so there are some to snack off later Grin

They're lovely with a bit of salt as per OP or with leftover sage and onion stuffing.

How do people do their bubble and squeak? I was thinking about that the other day but it's been so long since I cooked it I can't remember how

SpillingTheTea · 22/11/2020 22:51

Oh no. I have to eat them hot. But then I can't eat any food that is cold.

motorcyclenumptiness · 22/11/2020 23:03

I always save spare roast veg for bubble and squeak, but it's so good cold with houmous that there's never any left

opinionatedfreak · 22/11/2020 23:05

Cold dipped in cold gravy.

I too always make extra.

BlackeyedSusan · 23/11/2020 00:51

they are not left over, they are mine.

grassisjeweled · 23/11/2020 01:43

Do you mean fridge cold, or just left on the sideboard cold?

whopooedinthepyrex · 23/11/2020 09:35

But then I can't eat any food that is cold.

Nothing at all?

No bread, salad, cereal, egg mayonnaise, cheese...?

Nikhedonia · 23/11/2020 11:30

@Ifailed

I don't understand people who can't count - just roast enough potatoes for the planned meal.
I bet it's a laugh a minute in your house...
Crappyfridays7 · 23/11/2020 11:38

I love cold sprouts too, but yep a really nice roast potato cold is amazing. I often do a bit extra what’s wrong with that, I’m cooking for 5/6 people so big quantities anyway so I don’t count the fricking potatoes I peel a loaf and cook them, never any waste my 10 year old loves roast potatoes too.

helloxhristmas · 23/11/2020 11:39

Cold roast potatoes are amazing.

Reheated are not.

There used to be a sandwich shop near my office that did roast in a roll. It was truly amazing, full roast in a roll, with gravy and the relevant sauce. Used to have it very rarely as I needed to sleep after it:)

NiceGerbil · 23/11/2020 11:44

I knew a bloke at my old work who couldn't (wouldn't) eat anything cold. No sandwiches crisps anything.

I quizzed him about it but he held fast. Very odd. He was young and lived at home so I expect he had his mum running around. My guess is if he moved out he would suddenly become capable of eating other things...!

inappropriateraspberry · 23/11/2020 11:48

Hate cold roasties! Never understood the fascination. Love them hot and crispy not cold and soggy.

GiraffeNecked · 23/11/2020 12:01

@helloxhristmas reheated roasties in a microwave or oven are weird - the texture and taste is wrong somehow.

Sliced and fried in butter or olive oil - with some spinach, chilli, a red pepper and some garlic....very nice.

Lardlizard · 23/11/2020 12:03

Never ever had a single one left over !!

1940s · 23/11/2020 13:07

@williowrosenburg

I used to work in a pub, and on Sunday's they would have an actual trough of cold pre roasted potatoes.... every time I walked past I would nab one ..... Blush this was back when I was a size 6 and could eat whatever I liked 😫
I always thought this was an East end thing? Am I right?
inappropriateraspberry · 23/11/2020 13:13

When I worked in a pub, the leftover roasties from Sunday carvery were put out in bowls in the bar in the afternoon for customers to help themselves to. This was Cornwall, so not an East End thing, just British I think!

Andrew2020 · 23/11/2020 13:16

Cold roast potatoes and parsnips, dipped salt & pepper = heaven! I always make more than I need... 😉

Dollywilde · 23/11/2020 13:18

When I’m motivated / can be arsed I make hash browns for breakfast the next day with the leftover roasties Grin

doctorhamster · 23/11/2020 13:19

Love them cold! I always make extra so there'll be leftovers.
