Another thousand posts filled and we're ploughing on through another weekend of squelching through parks before we hit the Long Dark Teatime of the Soul.

The AD chat continues...

I don’t know how accurate this is but it’s surprised me

Not that I’ve been keeping up very well

More cases in mums area of Essex than my borough of London

Twice the cases in Bristol than my borough

Last time I looked, Bristol had half the cases.

I’ve read reports saying London, New York, Delhi, are expected to have herd immunity now. I think Londoners had this last November mostly.

TheOrchidKiller · 26/11/2020 21:46

@DominaShantotto
That sounds awful. Having been in a similar situation (child's very obvious non-SEN needs, & recommendations on how to manage things from professionals, both ignored by school), I know that banging-your-head-against-a-wall feeling. I wish I had a solution to offer. You keep on fighting for them because you have to, but it's exhausting.

@AcornAutumn
Not on simple figures but other places with lower rates are in 3.

And if what has happened in London is 'herd immunity' (which I agree with) then why not let us all just get on with getting herd immunity.

When London goes up, we all lockdown, when London goes down, they come out of it - but we don't.

I'm in South Yorks, my local figures have come down by 30%. Yes they were high, but really there is not that much difference statistically between high and low any more.

TheOrchidKiller · 26/11/2020 21:52

Tonight's shit-show is that the govt is questioning the application from DD's employers for their share of Eat Out To Help Out money. They are trying to make out they didn't make as much money as they said they did, to get out of giving them the cash back.

That restaurant was packed during the scheme. They even took on extra staff to cope. The staff were on their knees.

It's looking dodgy that they will get through the winter but if the govt don't cough up that will definitely be it.

AcornAutumn · 26/11/2020 21:56

Nanny I don’t think of anything as out of lockdown except the normality we sort of had in the summer. I don’t see tier 2 as not lockdown as it means almost no socialising realistically, only with a bubble and I’m lucky that being a singleton, I get a bubble.

Curlygirl06 · 26/11/2020 21:57

Nearly told work to shove their job up their arse yesterday. I usually like it there but christ on a bike, if I have to explain to supervisors and management the rules around masks I'll bloody scream. They're PAID to know what's what, why do i have to tell them the correct info?
Arseholes.

Weneedmusicandtheatre · 26/11/2020 22:01

@flower11

I hate the long dark nights, usually there would be trips and parties to look forward to. Now I just sit at home and eat mince pies and drink gin.

Dd has come home from school with awful hands, the cold has made her dry skin worse. What ever they are using at school is drying her skin out.

I have this occasionally, when I go to bed I use aveeno cream (liberally coated) and then a pair of cotton gloves over the top which gives it time to sink in overnight. Really helps although can sting slightly on application. Much sympathy here.

different levels of lockdown, when you can't eat out or even meet friends in your garden.

Not worried for me though, totally about the hospitality, which has been totally shit on.

Agreed. I'm in 2 and it still feels like the same shit to me. I don't care about getting my fucking hair and nails done, I want to go round to my mum's house for a cup of tea. I want to be able to take my kids to see their grandparents.
Sonicthehedgehogg · 26/11/2020 22:44

@SirSamuelVimes I'm in exactly the same situation. I'm pleased for the businesses that can try to reopen, but nothing has changed for me in reality. I can't take DD out in the blistering cold and rain to justify my need for social interaction and family support. I just want to have a brew in my mum's lounge and let DD play on the floor in the safe and warm so she can see her.
Lots of emails from work pushing us to have the flu jab by the end of the month in preparation to switch to Covid jabs. I just hope it actually makes a difference so we can move forwards.

AcornAutumn · 26/11/2020 23:16

I’m the same
Pleased for business to open but the personal restrictions are so very 1984.

profpoopsnagle · 26/11/2020 23:24

Just watching Question Time and there's a very good panelist ( I think her name is Clare but I missed the first few minutes). Oh she is so refreshing and a breath of fresh air, daring to suggest a different view from the guff that has been churned out for months, worth a watch on catch up.

AcornAutumn · 26/11/2020 23:25

Is it Claire Fox?

AcornAutumn · 26/11/2020 23:26

Well, Baroness Claire Fox I should say now!

MercyBooth · 26/11/2020 23:31

Wait till the self righteous start moaning at the fact that more ppl who dont drive will be calling ambulances in the future (post pandemic) when they need to get to hospital.
Because the taxi drivers have all quit or gone bust.

Quitting in droves where i am. One told me he had only had five jobs between 9am and 7pm.

Yes, awful for cabbies.

The endless unwanted bike lanes are causing trouble for ambulances too. They certainly took advantage of lockdown getting those in. Now getting the bus locally is impossible.

If I had a car, I don’t think I’d be able to drive myself to hospital if ill in an emergency.

Iheartmysmart · 27/11/2020 03:11

Ugh, I’m awake! Had been sleeping reasonably well up until now. This isn’t living, feel like I’m existing and there’s nothing to look forward to any more. Grim!

Hello. I’m awake too!
DrDiva · 27/11/2020 03:56

I’m awake too! Can’t switch brain off.

AcornAutumn · 27/11/2020 04:00

Hi DrDiva

Not even watching Haburu helps

But in case it helps anyone else

DrDiva · 27/11/2020 04:06

Smile aw that’s cute!!

I really want a cat...

LivinLaVidaLoki · 27/11/2020 06:31

Saw this on BBC this morning...
"The UK government's chief medical adviser, Prof Chris Whitty, said hugging a relative is "not against the law" but not to do it "if you want them to survive to be hugged again.""

I see they are still peddling the 'don't kill Granny' line.

Sorry I just plopped on and straight back off last night. I just feel so so bloody despondent.

Trying to get my head around how we are tier 3. Our rates are low and falling, the hospital numbers are falling. DH suggested it could be the "infections in the over 60s" bit as we have had a few outbreaks in care homes.

Or maybe because one town in the county has higher than the others (but still falling now), but that is 80 odd miles away from us?

It makes no sense???

Reedwarbler · 27/11/2020 06:40

Ah well, better news. There is a major rebellion in parliament over the way the tiers are split. lets hope it persuades those idiots to rejig/rethink them, especially with regards to the beleagered hospitality industry. How does the government think a business can continue to remain shut, possibly until Easter, without financial help? Is there some puritanical anti-drinking thing going on here?
Meanwhile, jobs for the boys again as a mate of Wanksock's has been given a massive contract for producing glass vials, even though he has never made them before and actually provides containers for fast food at the moment.
I really, really would like to give BJ and Wanksock all a damn good kicking.

LivinLaVidaLoki · 27/11/2020 06:53

That is good @Reedwarbler nice to see some pushback.

On a lighter note...
Was having a teams chat with my workmate the other day and she pointed out that "Zoom and Teams are like masturbation. Its nice enough but really you'd prefer an actual other person" I pissed myself laughing.
