No I don’t think it means ugly. I think it means attractive but not what folks normally perceive as attractive. Many models for example are not conventionally attractive.

I'd say that it means that you don't look like a model , or whatever is fashionable wrt appearance right now. I don't think it's an insult.

I'm not conventionally good looking , neither is my husband. We're both okay with that.

There is a woman that comes into my place of work quite regularly and she is not someone who would walk a catwalk. However I think she is beautiful. She has the most warm and welcoming smile.

I wouldn't take that as a bad thing at all! Especially from someone who obviously must find me at least a bit attractive if he married me .

People like Erin O'Connor or even maybe Penelope Cruz aren't conventionally attractive. They don't look like Barbie dolls. But they are undeniably gorgeous imo.

If someone described someone as not conventially attractive I'd think they were describing someone very quirky, someone with unusual features, someone that would provoke debate about whether they were attractive or not with some people thinking they were gorgeous and some very plain. Someone not pretty but makes the most of themselves, like SJP for instance.

Agree, Erin, tilda, sjp etc fall into the not conventionally attractive pool but are still considered attractive.

I also think (said it twice now) that she is incredible looking. But conventional beauty to me means something actually slightly pejorative...like conforming to a very narrow western view of conventional beauty. So glamour model-esque maybe.

I've obviously made a tit of myself by saying maybe Penelopr Cruz as she doesn't fit that stereotype (which I say as a compliment as it would be my preferred look).

An ex has features that aren’t typically attractive, teapot ears, gappy teeth, negligible cheek bones, big lips, ‘chubby’ lower eyelids, huge eyebrows. Yet, he is stunning as they just work on his face. He isn’t conventionally beautiful, but he is beautiful.
