Has anyone made hot chocolate using an orange Aero?

I really fancy a chocolate orange flavour hot chocolate. I have an orange Aero bar in the fridge, it should work, right? If I melt it in a pan of milk and whisk it all up?

Not sure if the orange part would react differently to the normal chocolate, and make it lumpy/bitty or something?

RedPandaFluff · 20/11/2020 16:26

There's only one way to find out - off you go, and report back Grin

CoffeeChocolateGin · 20/11/2020 16:27

OMG it has never crossed my mind to use a chocolate bar to make hot choc. Genius!

OMG, that sounds good......

Let us know the results OP 😁 DP is currently making hot chocolate using a melted bar of lindt, my powdered hot chocolate is not good enough for him, apparently

AintNobodyHereButUsChickens · 20/11/2020 16:52

Right, I'll try it later when the kids are in bed and let you know how it goes!

I imagine there wouldn't be enough cocoa solids. I'd be tempted to melt a bit of it first to see how it behaves before sacrificing the whole bar.

I don't know what the orange bit is made of, but I'm not convinced it would behave very well in hot milk. And the chocolate itself will have a high cocoa butter content which might form a fatty layer.

I wouldn't get your hopes up, and then it will be a pleasant surprise if it does work.

Can we talk about why the aero is in the fridge?

MrsJunglelow · 20/11/2020 17:00

Yesss.
I’d heat up cream and chop up the Areo and add and whisk.
Like ganache but using more cream so it’s thinner.
I bet it’s amazing!

Because I am a heathen who likes her chocolate from the fridge Wink

Actually, it may work better than I thought. A normal Aero bar has 25% cocoa solids, which I thought would be too low, but Whittard sells one of those blocks of choc on a wooden spoon which is 38%. So not THAT much difference. But the orange filling is still a big unknown.

I feel a bit over-invested in this now!

frazzledasarock · 20/11/2020 17:01

If you have malt Ovaltine or something similar add that in, I'd also add a pinch of cinnamon.

If you whisk it as it melts it shouldn't be lumpy.

AintNobodyHereButUsChickens · 20/11/2020 17:02

Ok so I actually found an Aero hot chocolate recipe on the Aero website! The recipe uses a mint bar and a regular chocolate Aero bar. I have some chocolate chips I could chuck in too for the solids, would that help?

I can think of nothing that can't be improved with extra chocolate.
Persipan · 20/11/2020 17:03

It'll work, but for a really good orange hot chocolate you want a Fry's Orange Cream...

TimeToCloseTheDoor · 20/11/2020 17:07

I would grate a fridge cold bar and sprinkle in to heated milk. Works well will galaxy dark bar

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 20/11/2020 17:10

Yes, that ⬆️ . Definitely grate it (not melt it), then whisk in to hot milk. Mmmm this is so wrong, it’s right.

WorraLiberty · 20/11/2020 17:11

Ooh let us know how it goes OP. I wonder if one bar would be enough though? I hate weak hot chocolate.

If it works, I might try it with the new orange Twirl bar. They're gorgeous.

BrandyandDeath · 20/11/2020 17:11

Wait till the MN "but mah obesity epidemic" mob catches you.Wink

I would rather drink milk sucked up through the aero (bite the ends of first, obviously).

longtompot · 20/11/2020 17:22

I think it will work www.allrecipes.com/recipe/229421/chocolate-bar-hot-chocolate/

In my googling there is apparently an aero chocolate orange powder hot choc drink!

chunkyrun · 20/11/2020 17:22

Shamelessly placemarking

nancybotwinbloom · 20/11/2020 17:26

I have with Lindt balls it's turned out nice

SlippersForFlippers · 20/11/2020 17:28

No but I do put milk in to the jar with the last bit of Nutella and then stick it in the microwave!

Yesterday evening I grated up a 100% dark chocolate bar with a fine grater & made a jar full of dark hot chocolate curls. Suffice to say, I'm probably never buying hot chocolate in a tin again.
