I've started a new one. Please join us and share the boring and mundane things happening in your world. It will be calming for all.

Got it. Just having a cup of lovely warming Chai tea and then I will tackle the overstuffed freezer.

MissConductUS · 20/11/2020 12:39

Good morning all. I'm wfh today and will be off shortly to do a quick shop at the warehouse club as they open early today. The only thing I still need for Thanksgiving dinner is carrots but I'll get those at the supermarket as the bags of carrots at the warehouse are big enough to feed an army.

Taswama I'm jealous that you got to do your parent teacher meetings virtually. That sounds a lot easier then going to the school in the evening and running around from classroom to classroom as I had to do when mine were in secondary school.

Spudlet Great news about Ddog! My cats are 10 and 11, so I have similar worries.

Just had a ham sandwich and pineapple juice. Got some new mouthwash, quite a battle to get into it but I won with the help of the bedspread. Ordered more hoover bags, another light and bulbs for bedroom and a rug for the living room. Suspect rabbit will munch at it but at least it will hide some of his carpet munching.

soddingkitten · 20/11/2020 13:23

Bought fabric today to make protectors/sleeves for the arms of our sofas. Hmm Ten guesses as to why that might be needed.

Two minutes after DH went up to bed last night Sodding launched himself at one of the Roman blinds and ran up it. I can report that he has reached the required weight to unhook the velcro at the top. I am not sure yet whether the sudden fall from height as it flopped down has put him off a repeat attempt. (Suspect not.)

Spudlet · 20/11/2020 14:33

Tell your DH to trim his toenails and stop clawing the sofa, @soddingkitten Grin

I have jumped ship from the HMS Homeschool and am waiting to give blood. I swung by the sewing shop on the way here and picked up the bits for an advent calendar for my eldest niece and some wool and toy stuffing - I’m going to knit DS a Supertato and Evil Pea for Christmas! We have only just discovered these books and DS loves them.

Just back from my pre-op talk - with prescriptions for blood thinning injections, bandages and a special shoe, and a list of things to do in advance and afterwards. This should keep me busy.

My IKEA opens a second hand shop, they buy back furniture and sell it on second hand. Which I think is a good idea.

MaMisled · 20/11/2020 14:49

The leopard print top I ordered didn't arrive today as expected but I bought out of date strawberries for 65p.

sugarbum · 20/11/2020 14:58

Here is the most thrilling thing that has happened for ages. The new road partially opened. It cuts our journey to the train station down to 8 minutes. It used to be 15 minutes. The return journey is still 15 minutes.

More exciting still, the new - new bit of the new road is opening at the end of the month. It leads DIRECTLY INTO / OUT OF THE TRAIN STATION CAR PARK!
This will cut the journey to the train station to 6 minutes. It will also cut the return journey down to 6 minutes.

It is exciting nonetheless...mostly for DC1 who doesn't get up until 7.27am when we have to leave the house at 7.35am. No doubt he will now wait until 7.30am to rise from the pit...

It also leaves me an extra 18 minutes I didn't have before - possibly to stop off at the Costa machine on the way home.

Tallpaulwho · 20/11/2020 15:09

I got a blue badge from my council! I'm shocked as they are notoriously stingy with them. I'm so so relieved though, I have had a massive deterioration in my mobility this year. It's such a small thing that will make my life so much easier.

Squirrel26 · 20/11/2020 15:26

Sorry @soddingkitten but the image of the kitten running up the blind made me laugh. Which was just as well as the thought of ageing pets was making me cry (mine is only 4 but my friend has just lost her dog at 12ish so I’m a bit over sensitive atm.)

I have an After Eight hot chocolate. I was a bit unsure if I would like it, but actually it is delicious.

EggyPegg · 20/11/2020 15:53

The image of Sodding running up the blinds is brilliant. I bet he was perplexed on the way down.

DS2 has Beavers again tonight. He needs to build his protective cover for his egg before the meeting starts. Last week they dropped it inside from as high as a parent could reach. DH is 6'2, so we drafted him in. This week they are dropping it from a first floor window. Last weeks design was excellent so I think we will just modify that. However I have currently lost both DC to Roblox. Which is fine with me as I shall put the washing away sit here and drink tea in peace.

EggyPegg · 20/11/2020 16:00

Also, have removed the towels from EggyCat1's new radiator hammock. She clearly approves over it as she got out of it to vomit all over the rug instead.

@Tallpaulwho, I’m so glad you have got your blue badge and so sorry that you need it. It really opened up a whole load of options when we got one for our mum a few years ago.

whatsoccuringnow · 20/11/2020 17:49

The earrings I treated myself haven't arrived hope they come Monday. I had made chicken jambalaya for tea but no one fancies it so I've frozen it and we are getting pizza.

My DH has been very stressed recently so I'm hoping we can find something good on Netflix to just chill out and switch off tonight.

Spudlet · 20/11/2020 17:56

@Squirrel26 Don’t be sad! Ddog is back on form and appalled at the short rations he’s getting. There’s life in the old dog yet. Here is a picture of him wearing off socks for anti-bullying week to cheer you up. He was so cross about them Grin

TheSilveryPussycat · 20/11/2020 18:14

Just to say DCat lived to the grand old age of 21.

I looked for the envelope containing my new driving licence, which immediately went missing just after it arrived. It was deep in the sofa.

MissConductUS · 20/11/2020 18:17

I had a bit of pandemic panic at the warehouse club this morning. Even though we already have a package of 36 rolls of toilet paper loo rolls and a package of 12 rolls of kitchen towels kitchen rolls in the garage, I bought another package of each. They had mountains of both in the store, so it's not hoarding iyswim. This should easily get us through the winter.

Looking out the window I've just seen the mailman or letter carrier if you want to be modern about it postie drive off after putting the mail in our box at the end of the driveway, so I'll wander out soon and get it. This time of year it will be mountains of catalogs.

I treated DD and myself to lunch from the deli and DH is making pizza tonight. DD has been accepted to live on campus at uni for the spring semester. She'll have her own room in university housing. I'm not thrilled about it but I understand why she wants to go. We'll drive her up in mid-January. DS is planning on being here this spring so we'll still have one DC in the house. Her uni may also change their mind about having anyone on campus if covid continues to get worse.

Eggy, your cat clearly has great manners if she got up to vomit on the floor. She looks very happy. Since we're posting pet pictures today, here is my solar-powered cat. The look she's giving me is intended to convey "Why are you bothering me?".

@TenCornMaidens where do you buy your chai tea or do you make it yourself?

I've only had it from Starbucks and I can't spend that on tea all the time

TenCornMaidens · 20/11/2020 18:30

@nancybotwinbloom I get my Chai from this place samovarteahouse.co.uk/product-category/tea/chai/ and make it at home. I am 100% sure there are other sources, maybe even in teabags!

I don't know his preferences of course, but I just finished watching a wonderful documentary about the exploration of a completely intact, 4000 year old tomb in Egypt on Netflix.

Secrets of the Saqqara Tomb

It was really enlightening and the Egyptian archeologists were brilliant.

If you're more in the mood for comedy, anything by Iliza Shlesinger is fabulous.

@nancybotwinbloom yes, I just searched the tesco website and there are lots of chais (?) in teabags.

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 20/11/2020 18:34

DD is making pad thai. I'm not sure that it's going to work out all that well.

PersisFord · 20/11/2020 18:41

@MissConductUS I am loving your use of English idioms!

My cat was enormously old when she died. Nobody knew how old so when we acquired her I made a guess. She was such a pain and hated everyone, but she loved my DH.

I’m going running with my fast friend tonight. And I made Mexican chicken for the kids’ supper which they surprisingly wolfed down! Means I will have to have something else for mine rather than just eating their leftovers.

The weekend laundry has begun.....

GigantosaurusRex · 20/11/2020 18:56

I save these threads in 'I'm watching' and read them when I need a dose of calmness and distraction. I am in Wales so no lockdown here (although lots of restrictions still) but went out for lunch today which was lovely. It felt so normal. Friday night is pizza night in our house and DH has just taken DS out to buy some mince pies, I also managed to pick up a bottle of port in M&S today so as soon as they are back I am disappearing upstairs with a glass of port and a mince pie for an Epsom salt bath. Currently have a purring cat on my lap who is smug because he beat the other one to it and am very much looking forward to a lie in tomorrow!

soddingkitten · 20/11/2020 18:56

Tell your DH to trim his toenails and stop clawing the sofa, @soddingkitten

This is worryingly close to the truth. 😆
