Hello - Brit/American in NH here. I heard good things about MN from a friend and this thread looks lovely.

That's all my news really, other than it was -7C here this morning, and I'm not ready for winter.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 19/11/2020 22:23

Tomorrow I get my pre-surgery talk and probably one of those protective schoes to practice.

Still wet here.

MissConductUS · 19/11/2020 22:26

@Squirrel26 - What did the vet say about Ddog?

@SlartBartFast - Welcome! American/American here. I've been on MN for three years and it's unique, in a good way. I'm a New Yorker.

DH is wearing Sodding out with his old fluffy teaser toy (not the new feather one that turns him into a raving psycho) to stop him running up the living room blinds. 🙄 He has also discovered the mantle piece over the fireplace. There are precious objects up there, some of which will not survive a spill on to the stone hearth. It feels like having a toddler again, but in reverse (moving things down a level to stop them getting broken rather than up and out of reach). We usually love putting our Christmas tree up but it’s going to be a month of bellyaching and shouting “NO!”, I can just tell. I wouldn’t change him though.

boatyardblues · 19/11/2020 22:31

Welcome Slart!

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 19/11/2020 22:38

Sodding It's lovely when they want to play.
Sev liked the hiding and slowly creeping nearer part - presumably bc. it allowed him to put in a little sleep - while I sat on the sofa imitating mouse movements with his toy - and wondering.

The turtle (that I didn't want, didn't know was coming, but now love) like me better than he likes DS. Much to DS's confusion. Grin He sinks to the bottom and retracts into his shell when DS approaches, but when I go up to his tank he swims up to the surface and pops his head out to look at me. I have suggested to DS that he should move more slowly as he is very quick and jerky and I think that might appear predatory to the turtle.

I’m going to go out on a limb here, but do you do most of the feeding?
BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 19/11/2020 22:46

Funny you should mention that soddingkitten. Grin I also go in in the mornings and turn his basking light back on.

sproutsandparsnips · 19/11/2020 23:12

I am mustering the wherewithal to go to bed. Eaten a plate of cheese. Hope I don't have nightmares....

CoffeethenCrochet · 19/11/2020 23:41

I'm shivering at the thought of -7C @SlartBartFast

It's +4C here tonight and that is cold enough for me!

MissConductUS · 20/11/2020 00:38

@slartbartfast Do you have an American parent and a British one? Did you grow up in NH?

DD has had her bottle and I feel safe and happy reading the latest posts on this thread. I'm also listening to the rain knowing I don't have to get up too early tomorrow morning.

Thanksgiving insights are a lovely addition to this thread thank you..

mathanxiety · 20/11/2020 04:53

We had a lovely 65°F day here (about 18°C). The playgrounds were heaving.
Tomorrow will be just a little cooler, and then we return to reality and the slide into polar temps isn't far off.

I still need to buy either a very turkey or a very big chicken for Thanksgiving, probably early next week, but I bought the sweet potatoes earlier this week. I never serve sweet potatoes with marshmallows. I've never done a green bean casserole either. That would be a step too far for me. I boil the sweet potatoes, then mash them with butter, a couple of tablespoons of molasses, S & lots of P, and sprinkle finely chopped pecans over the top, dot with butter, and put in the oven for about five minutes.

Last year I made a pecan pie as well as a pumpkin pie, and have been told I have to repeat the feat this year. No good deed goes unpunished.

mathanxiety · 20/11/2020 04:54

Very *small turkey.

Frownette · 20/11/2020 05:41

I didn't wear a face mask inside a supermarket yesterday and felt like a criminal. Thing was that I realised I needed milk on the way home without a face mask and asked outside if the bloke who works there could take the money and get it for me, but he said no, come right in! In the manner of a game show host and flourish of hand.

I reluctantly, very fastly made my purchase whilst muttering about how I didn't want a £100 fine. He said well this is the first time I've seen your face. Makes you realise how different things are now, I think face masks will be here forever in some format. Hopefully improved ones.

Frownette · 20/11/2020 06:03

And also, I was contacted about a job. From the people who were supposed to send computer equipment for job but I haven't received yet.

Horse before cart...

I could only reply yes I'd love to but you haven't sent me the equipment so I can't start now

EggyPegg · 20/11/2020 06:48

@CoffeethenCrochet

Thank you *@EggyPegg* I'm working on the natural history blanket which is a crochet along written by Scheepjes. Just back home from dog walk along the beach.
Wow @CoffeethenCrochet, I judt looked it up. That is amazing. How are you finding it? I've never done a CAL, or followed such an intricate pattern. One of my best friends did Sophies Universe a few years ago and it was incredible to watch it come together.

I'm currently working on a waffle stitch baby blanket for a friend.

PersisFord · 20/11/2020 07:19

Good morning everyone. I had a weird but very restful dream about watching one of those videos at a museum, this one was about how to grow wheat in different colours. When I woke up DH brought me coffee in bed. A nice morning!

I recently discovered The Pioneer Woman cooking programme. It is the TV equivalent of this thread. I might look at some of her Thanksgiving recipes for extra relaxation .

ReallySpicyCurry · 20/11/2020 07:38

My toddler continues to sleep beautifully in her own bed (still not over the novelty) and I'm sitting up in bed with a coffee, watching the rain thumping away at my salvias. A bird is picking snails off the wall. It's still a bit dark, so I'm not sure, but it's either a blackbird or a thrush

whatsoccuringnow · 20/11/2020 07:48

Morning. It's my day off today. Sat under a fluffy blanket with my two little boys watching tv but I need to get up and light the fire and get them ready for school.

I will do the food shop today. We are having pizza for dinner.

Spudlet · 20/11/2020 08:16

Morning all. Ddog seems much better this morning - much perkier and wanted his breakfast. He was also haunting my elbow while I ate my breakfast. So hopefully he just ate something dreadful while I wasn’t looking 🙈

The older he gets, the more paranoid I get about him... I don’t know if we’ll be able to have another dog when he eventually goes as it will depend on what job I get, and also where we can get one from. As DS is young I suspect the majority of rescues will be out of the question (especially as I want a dog from one of a few particular breeds) and puppies are stupid money at the moment, not to mention the smuggled in dogs and puppy farmers who are no doubt coining it in.

But in any case there seems to be life in the old dog yet so hopefully we won’t have to face this problem for a few years. He’s a bit of a smell bag and terribly naughty but I will miss ddog appallingly when he goes eventually. He’s been a good friend to me for a long time.

TrickyD · 20/11/2020 09:33

Reached my 500 day Streak on Duolingo!

Mainly Spanish, with bits of revision French, plus oddments for places we would be visiting on holiday. The complete Latin course, easy because that’s what my degree was in.

I had imagined Duo would send a congratulatory medal for the streak, but nothing.

TenCornMaidens · 20/11/2020 10:36

Off to get my click and collect shopping.

Taswama · 20/11/2020 11:01

I had a virtual parents evening yesterday for DS1 yesterday. It was lovely. All the teachers (6 of them) said he's a pleasure to have in the class and they really hope he takes their subject for GCSE. Tricky as he can't take History, Geography AND triple science!
