Well, that’s Monday at work over and done with. I made a green bean curry with a bit too much salt in it. I hope DH and DS can eat it -I’ll be fine but their salt tolerance is lower than mine.

My sister asked a lot of questions about the brownies so I gave her a few (four small pieces to be exact) when she came to collect something else. I feel like a martyr. DS was not happy and scowled about whether there were enough brownies left for us - he is not the best at sharing despite my efforts over the years. He is very lovely in most other ways.

silkiecat · 30/11/2020 18:39

DH is having his online piano lesson and silkiecat is walking across the piano keys. When he had a conference call earlier with a client silkiecat did her loudest howl three times right by him.

Just spoke to electrician and booked work in for a week's time. The electrician said he'ld been through all our cupboards and found lots of bordeaux wine. I explained that's what happens when you marry a Frenchman.

Champagneforeveryone · 30/11/2020 18:52

The Twig and ChampagneCat have been introduced- it went as well as could be expected, though The Twig remains in its naked glory for now. I imagine things will be less tranquil when it has its dangly ornaments on Grin

Taswama · 30/11/2020 19:08

The Lebkuchen (from Waitrose) were a disappointment. I had a couple after lunch and then left the packet on the side. DS1 came in and helped himself to one after school and complained about me leaving not nice treats out.

Nydj · 30/11/2020 19:15

That’s very disappointing, @Taswama. We are holding back on opening a box of bahlsen ones until the brownies are finished.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 30/11/2020 19:21

For those suffering from Lebkuchen disappointment:

I am a Spekulatius girl myself, though I do not have the forms (I blame Dsis)

soddingkitten · 30/11/2020 19:27

I made a kind of biryani-style mushroom rice to go with our curry for dinner. It turned out really well. Like really well. I’m still in shock. There were a few surprises due to the biryani spice mix that I shook in without looking too hard and now suspect were meant to go in the sauce. 🤣 We all warned Sodding off the cardamom pods when he lunged on to the table to sniff out leftovers.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 30/11/2020 19:44

When they ask you to make it again, what will you do, sodding ?

soddingkitten · 30/11/2020 19:48

They are used to my freestyle dishes, the lucky dip factor and the low reproduceability. If you mean about the spice surprise, I will probably put the mix in with the rice again but perhaps pick the cardamom pods out first (and throw some of the liberated seeds in).

Nomnomarrgh · 30/11/2020 19:56

I’m going to be able to leave the house tomorrow! I do so miss the real world.

Taswama · 30/11/2020 20:04

That recipe looks very nice Prokupatus . We don't have vanilla sugar here though and I've never found ground cloves. I did get DP a spice grinder last year though. Is piment chilli?
What are backoblaten? Baking circles?

Squirrel26 · 30/11/2020 20:14

My mum used to make vanilla sugar by putting vanilla pods in a jar of normal sugar (she might well still do that, but I no longer use her ingredients to bake with. APPARENTLY once you’ve left home you need to buy your own.)

EggyPegg · 30/11/2020 20:16

What's Spekulatius? The lebkuchen DH brought home last week was Aldi and it was marvellous. He's going shopping again tomorrow, so I will ask him to get some more.

The DCs teddy advent calendars have been filled with Celebrations and Maoms. When I handed them the box of Celebrations to do it themselves, DS2 swept up all the Bounty's before DS1 had even blinked. There second advent calendars are small bags, and I will fill those tonight so that the contents are a surprise. I should have bought the big tub of Celebrations though. I can now tell you that there are exactly 25 in the box of them. That's not much chocolate for £2. It works out at 8p a chocolate, and I'm not convinced that each individual chocolate is worth that.

EggyPegg · 30/11/2020 20:18

Their* not there. Oh my!

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 30/11/2020 20:21

Taswarma
Backoblaten - baking wafers / I think vanilla baking flavour will do the trick, too / Piment is a type of chili
Perhaps you can get bags of 'Lebkuchengwürz' ready mixed via Aldi (or amazon?)

I had a friend from Aachen where Printen are made, a type of Lebkuchen designed to break your teeth - you need ammonium bicarbonate for those.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 30/11/2020 20:28

It's a spicey biscuit baked in traditional forms (Modeln) - that's where the name comes from sth to look at. Originally from the lower rhine area, eaten at christmas unless you are in Indonesia where you can have it all year round. I would post a foto but I haven't got any in.

soddingkitten · 30/11/2020 20:36

@Squirrel26

Same here.
Champagneforeveryone · 30/11/2020 20:48

I've just ordered an ironing board hook - the glamour Grin

EggyPegg · 30/11/2020 20:55

@Champagneforeveryone Perfectly in the spirit of this thread.

profpoopsnagle · 30/11/2020 20:57

Today I used 2 washing machine cycles that rarely get used. The first was a dark garments/denim wash cycle at 40 degrees, that spins at 1200 rpm and takes 1 hour and 12 minutes. The second was a cold woollen wash cycle that only spins at 900rpm and takes 39 minutes.

silkiecat · 30/11/2020 20:59

We are having pork and apple sausages, mashed potatoes and peas for dinner. Vegan DD requested the mash and peas as wanted something she could eat with braces.

Washed our sheets today and need to put sheets back on.

DS did an Of Mice and Men quiz with me and got 100% first attempt. I've just done his drama homework.

EggyPegg · 30/11/2020 21:29

Welcome @profpoopsnagle. And thank you for your perfect example of what this thread is all about.
I'm not a fan of a slow spin. I don't like that things come out still wringing wet

HelenaJustina · 30/11/2020 21:37

This washing machine chat is just soothing enough for a Monday evening. Thanks gang!

Champagneforeveryone · 30/11/2020 22:17

In a night of contrasts I have just booked a holiday. My grandmother would call my dual purchase of an ironing board hook and a holiday in one night as "profligate" Grin

EggyPegg · 30/11/2020 22:17

I have just finished filling and hanging the DC sack advent calendars. There is a lot of sellotape holding these up.
