That looks like a great game you've made there Eggy for a cat, even our old half blind cat would have fun knocking all the bottom half of those over Grin

soddingkitten · 30/11/2020 22:32

Eggy You’re a better parent than me. My two each have a Cadbury’s advent calendar, reduced to £1 in Tesco last week. Your beautiful advent sacks would be an evening’s fun mayhem for Sodding, possibly the next morning’s too, but no more. Sigh.

The magic throw is working a treat tonight. I have a warm kitten draped over me. Smile

I bought garden twine today and shaving gel for DH on a two for one deal in Superdrug. Yeah, I’m living the dream.

EggyPegg · 30/11/2020 22:59

@soddingkitten I only started doing these sacks last year. I have been regretting it slightly this year as tonight has crept up on me and I've not been organised enough to buy many things to fill them. So they're predominantly filled with Maoms that we had in the sweet tin, interspersed with the odd thing I've managed to pick up in B&M (pack of six mini putties for example has sorted them for three days each). Will swap some of those sweets our for £1 coins as soon as I get change. They love some cold hard cash.

Neither of my cats have shown any interest in them whatsoever. I am wondering what I said to offend EggyCat1 tonight though.

@Champagneforeveryone

In a night of contrasts I have just booked a holiday. My grandmother would call my dual purchase of an ironing board hook and a holiday in one night as "profligate" Grin
It's probably too exciting for this thread, but where are you going?
Champagneforeveryone · 30/11/2020 23:34

Marrakesh eggy Smile

Only for four nights while DS chaperones his grandmother round Rome. I eventually got fed up of asking DH where he wanted to go, and was scandalised by the price of holidays (we're still tied to school holidays) so made a spur of the moment decision. I think this may be cheaper as it's not a classic family holiday destination.

DH is afraid he may either wander off or get violated. Knowing him as I do, either actually seems a likely scenario.

dottiedaisee · 30/11/2020 23:38

Walking the dog and caring for the elderly this pm ...all the residents are amazing old people and actually find it really humbling caring for these lovely people 💕

TenCornMaidens · 01/12/2020 09:01

My teenagers have requested that we NOT do the refillable advent calendars this year, basically because they found it so annoying that every year there would be so many mornings where the 'elves forgot to come' Halloween Grin... so they have bought ones. My heart actually isn't broken at all, it's fine. Fine.

Taswama · 01/12/2020 09:47

The dc have started the Green and Blacks advent calendar. A coin was tossed to decide who had odds and who had evens. Evens is more popular as my birthday falls on an odd day this month so I get the chocolate on that day. I was relieved to discover there are no white chocolates only butterscotch, ginger, milk, dark (70%) and very dark (85%).

Sheusedtobesomeonelse · 01/12/2020 11:35

Had lost this thread yesterday, am back with not much to add !

It is absolutley freezing today, first day of having the heating on in the day and will supplement that with a Jillian Michaels DVD in a minute before lunch.

I have to make DD2s birthday cake this week ready for saturday lunchtime so have done some online shopping this morning. I must look at recipes, am undecided to just triple the quantities for my Delia classic Sponge recipe or try something something choclatey and new.. I still have tomorrow to decide.

Advent calendars here a gogo today, DH has a wine one (only every other day as 12 bottles = very expensive!) and i have a Body Shop one which is taking up all the room on the sideboard, i am really going to have to tidy up before getting the christmas things out.. This activty will not be done before 10 days at least, when i was small we used to put the tree up on Christmas Eve morning, i loved it and now never put it up before the school holidays start.
Everyone moans but i get claustraphobic and working from home at the moment can do without that feeling!..

I made a cauliflower and chorizo soup for lunch, it tastes very good.

silkiecat · 01/12/2020 11:47

DH is taking a nap. A plumber I contacted about fixing our 2 leaking taps which DH has tried to mend but still leak as much said no availability until New Year. DH says not to worry he will solve it. Last time he solved it I got £1000 extra to pay on the water bill then when a plumber came in he solved it in 1 minute. Really hard to find one round here though.

Asked council how long searches are taking and they said 31 working days.

TrickyD · 01/12/2020 12:31

Tax stuff finally sent off to the accountant.
DH is clearing out the conservatory gutters. It is a very cold day; I hope he won't ask me to come outside and hold his ladder.

TenCornMaidens · 01/12/2020 12:36

Did some filing.

sproutsandparsnips · 01/12/2020 13:24

This may be a silly question Taswama, but I am struggling to understand why your birthday does not always fall on an odd day.......
Just having a cup of coffee before setting off to drop some hot drink sachets off to a lady who usually runs a homeless drop in from a church hall but can't due to you know what, so is running it from a car park. I am sure I will not be able to find said car park first time and will end up driving round and round the one way system for eternity.

Champagneforeveryone · 01/12/2020 13:40

I have my new prescription contacts in today. I hadn't realised my sight had deteriorated that much, but I feel like I have bionic vision now.

I also have a headache. I suspect the two are linked.

Squirrel26 · 01/12/2020 13:42

I have a Thornton’s advent calendar that my dad sent me (he doesn’t usually, but this year he has banned me from coming for Christmas so it might be compensation for that). Behind the chocolate this morning it told me to ‘give up your seat for others’. Which I would. But there is LITERALLY NO ONE HERE, THAT’S THE THEME OF 2020. You stupid smug advent calendar.

HelenaJustina · 01/12/2020 13:54

@Squirrel26 that made me snort at my desk! I would give up my seat but no one would want it, it has a dodgy wheel!

Squirrel26 · 01/12/2020 14:29

There are four chairs in here, and just me! I think I’ll stay sitting down...

Champagneforeveryone · 01/12/2020 15:09

And my ironing board hook has been dispatched

Nydj · 01/12/2020 16:12

Hello everyone. I forgot to order chocolate coins for DS’s advent calendar and had braced myself to put in twirls for a few days but my sis came to the rescue - she got me some choc coins from Morrison’s which now have some £5, £10 and £20 chocolate bars in the pack Shock

EggyPegg · 01/12/2020 16:18

@Champagneforeveryone. Lovely! When have you booked it for? Are you feeling optimistic? We've booked 3 nights at a Parkdean in Porthcawl over February half term. Just so that we have something to look forward to! We have skiing booked for next Christmas, as we are also tied to school holidays, and flights in February half term are eye-watering, but over Christmas seem to be term time prices providing you book early enough. When we skiied this year, we took the DC out of school the week before February half term. Flights that week were £300 return for the four of us. Identical flights the following week were £3000.
I'm looking forward to going back to Porthcawl though as it's where we took DS1 on our very first family holiday when he was 14 months and I'd found out two weeks before that I was expecting DS2.

Taswama · 01/12/2020 16:45

Just seen your comment @sproutsandparsnips . Of course my birthday is always on an odd day! I meant its my birthday month. If my birthday was in November or January it would be irrelevant.

Spudlet · 01/12/2020 17:06

@EggyPegg I love your advent sacks! Really lovely.

DS is doing a nativity at school! It’s going to be outdoors and shared on film. I have 11 days to whip up a shepherd costume. Wondering if I have any suitable old sheets in the airing cupboard I can sacrifice to the cause... with some cord as a belt and the traditional tea towel, naturally. Do I dare make him a crook, or would that be edging into lethal weapon territory... 🤔

Spudlet · 01/12/2020 17:13

Actually, I have just the thing! Some cheap cream fabric I bought to make a toile of a dress in the summer. That should do the job perfectly. I can always get some embellishment of some sort if I get the chance. Sorted. 👍

silkiecat · 01/12/2020 17:18

The electrician has said he can come to our house here on Thursday to do our lights and check the oven, well he said he'ld try to come.

DH has gone down to our old house as the surveyor is coming tomorrow for the buyer to make sure everything is OK there.

Will need to do some cleaning and tidying here tomorrow before the electrician comes but will be good to have it cleaner and tidier.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 01/12/2020 17:24

Bc we couldn't have any celebrations this year (we used to eat and drink to celebrate holidays, babies etc.) our boss handed out advent calendars (lindor). I was excited but calmed down when I opened my e-mails.
