Sodding, how are you feeling this morning?

Much better thank you. I just had two breakfasts (granola followed by cheese muffin - English bready one - with Marmite) because my appetite has returned with a vengeance.

Sodding made me laugh just now. I’d left the kitchen tap dripping into a metal bowl by accident and it captured his attention. When he leaned in to see the drips landing in the bowl, it started dripping on his head. He couldn’t work out a) where the splash in the bowl had gone and b) why his head was getting wet.

Another slow day planned here. I might pin and tack the last two sofa arm covers if I can summon the motivation.

Therainisback · 29/11/2020 10:17

Lazy morning here. Just having peanut butter on toast and proper coffee. I should have got up and gone for a run, but it is cold, grey & damp and I am feeling lazy. As a penance I will shortly go & clean the bathroom.
Also the bathroom scales must have broken judging by what they told me this morning.

HelenaJustina · 29/11/2020 10:19

We’ve been to online Mass and I have fruit soaking for a tea loaf, Christmas cake baking has given me a pang for fruit cake. Brunch in a bit, then a long walk and cottage pie for supper. Long to-do list along with those things, I might write it down and see what I get done.

Just interrupted my long, boring ironing session to investigate why Sodding was in the hall yelling at the closed kitchen door. DH saw and came to show me a heavily wounded hen sparrow in his cupped hands. Shock Yep, Sodding has caught his first critter. DH has returned the sparrow to the garden to spend its last minutes in peace and we’ve shut Sodding in, but DH says it won’t last long. Sodding seemed very pleased with himself. Based on the way he plays (catches toys mid air), this won’t be the last bird he brings in.

EggyPegg · 29/11/2020 11:38

Oh poor hen sparrow.

Welcome @DavetheCat2001

@Therainisback, I think my scales are broken too. The numbers are supposed to go down, not up aren't they?

Lazy morning at Eggy Towers. I have just eaten my last lebkuchen with my second cup of tea of the day. DS2 is playing Minecraft on his Kindle. DS1 is watching the first Captain America movie. I am looking a loft conversions on Pinterest. DH has just got up.
Later we're going for a tramp around a local National Trust property.

SilkieCat · 29/11/2020 11:55

Welcome to Rosie the cat.

DH is making the silkie chicken run again and slightly grumpy about it whilst acknowledging it is very cold for the silkie chickens and they do need their new run made asap. It will let them be off the ground, though even then I wonder if they need anything else to keep warm. At least they have lots of fluff but its getting quite nippy out esp. at night. Seems to say online its fine and only suggestion is a heat lamp if you want eggs all year. We are not bothered about the eggs and not doing a heat lamp with a thatched cottage and clumsy chickens and clumsy DS. Off to Google chicken house isulation.

Squirrel26 · 29/11/2020 12:25

I have been to the Co-op for milk and shampoo. I forgot the shampoo. Hmm

I do need to go out soon to walk the dog though, so I will combine that with buying shampoo (as long as I don’t forget again...)

Changed the date of my next supermarket delivery because I forgot that Dog School will be restarting. They have lots of slots available today, so it was easy.

halfpasteleven · 29/11/2020 12:34

@Spudlet I love hearing about your DS!
DP woke up in a non grumpy mood and is now putting up Christmas decorations with DS.
I have cleaned the en-suite and our bedroom rather than join them.
Hoping DD goes for a nap sooner rather than later

soddingkitten · 29/11/2020 12:54

I cleaned the shower enclosure this morning. It is gleaming again. With 4 of us, it will be smeary again by Tuesday.

soddingkitten · 29/11/2020 13:02

I just went out in garden to bag up the hen sparrow, but it’s still alive and panting. I’m relieved, but what now? What do we do with a wounded bird?

SilkieCat · 29/11/2020 13:10

This is what the RSPB says:

www.rspb.org.uk/birds-and-wildlife/advice/how-you-can-help-birds/injured-and-baby-birds/if-you-find-an-injured-bird/

You can also report the cat for wildlife crime. Our cat is about to phone the RSPCA as DH is spending too much time on those chickens.

Nydj · 29/11/2020 13:30

Once more, there is excitement at ours today. It’s almost as if I want to get thrown off this thread. I am making @MissConductUS’S brownie recipe. They are in the oven as we speak.

I followed the recipe as closely as I was able i.e. chopped up bars of chocolate instead of chocolate chips, 7 tablespoons of butter but hear me out on this one as the recipe said 6 but @MissConductUS‘S notes suggested 8 and I only had about 7 that was softened. Oh, and I put in some orange flavouring/essence just because. That’s close enough to the recipe isn’t it?

SilkieCat · 29/11/2020 13:33

DD said she went down to see why the cat is so angry. She said the cat appeared to want water but was already on top of the sink with a tap running. I explained she is just angry as preferred servant DH is outside, making the silkie chicken run. He should be roasting one instead, Angry cat.

Nydj · 29/11/2020 13:34

I think a side effect of COVID that the scientists haven’t properly investigated because they have been faffing about developing vaccines is how it is breaking so many scales so the numbers only go up. Now that there are at least 3 good vaccines out there, I am sure the matter of the strange effect of COVID on scales will get the attention it deserves from scientists around the world.

Nydj · 29/11/2020 13:49

Brownies update: they are out of the oven but don’t have the slightly dry crispy bit on the top.

MissConductUS · 29/11/2020 13:52

Nydj Did you bake them for 30 minutes at 165? What type of pan did you wind up using to bake them in?

I'm sure they will be lovely. Smile

I used a metal baking tin, the adjustable silvercrest one. I tried a corner and it does taste amazing if a little cakey. I had to turn the temp down to 150°C as we have a double oven and I used the little oven and I always have to temp down by 10-20 degrees in that oven.

MissConductUS · 29/11/2020 14:31

It may be that the eggs were not beaten in sufficiently. That's what turns the batter shiny and I think is responsible for the crust on top.

It's a very forgiving recipe so I'm sure they will be fine.

DH says he has made the chicken run but needs to attach it to the chicken house then said he needed to clear the back of the garden to put it there. I asked why he was putting it there and he said he didn't want chickens taking over the garden. DS and I were Shock why not? Sad So now chickens will be taking over the garden but maybe not today as it will be dark in an hour or so and we need to have lunch.

Thank you - will try and remember this for next time.

I hope the silkie chickens get their new accommodation sorted before it get really cold.

Frownette · 29/11/2020 14:39

@SilkieCat I'd love to have chickens

@Nydj I'm really tired and braindead today but I couldn't understand what you meant about COVID?

MissConductUS · 29/11/2020 14:53

I'm really tired and braindead today but I couldn't understand what you meant about COVID?

Several posters have reported that their bathroom scales have gone dodgy, reporting weight gains that clearly could not be correct. Nydj suggests this as a potentially fruitful subject of clinical investigation, as the scales may be showing this as a symptom of infection by covid.

Oh how strange, thanks @MissConductUS

Nydj · 29/11/2020 15:02

@MissConductUS has explained it better than I could have - thank you!
