I fear this may be too exciting for the thread, MissConductUS,but I have that exact toaster from your Thanksgiving stovetop photo!

EggyPegg · 28/11/2020 09:49

@Taswama DH bought ours a month or so ago. He is obsessed with it. Particularly for chips. O have to admit that they're really nice. Like proper chippy chips. And you use very little oil to get them. Every removable part can go in the dishwasher, so it's easy to clean.
He also does paella in it.

MissConductUS · 28/11/2020 11:24

mathanxiety - We love our Cuisinart toaster! We bought it about 5 years ago based on a great review in Consumer Reports. The digital display and the toast transport motor are brilliant. I now have in my head the right settings for every type of bread and roll we eat. Perfect toast every time is something we take for granted now.

One of the major benefits of having our third car home from uni is that DD was able to drive herself to work at 0545 this morning so I'm still in my after shower dressing gown. Smile

I've ordered my shopping for next Tuesday, but am forced to do click and collect at a different store to normal Shock

Following on from my expedition to the dog food shop last week this makes me practically a pioneer. The Other Waitrose is 11 miles away, IN THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION TO WORK. It will truly feel like entering uncharted territories, as since lockdown I don't go anywhere except work and 6th form to drop DS off.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 28/11/2020 12:06

Guess what - the glasses have to be done again. They took the wrong set of numbers and made the wrong type - distance instead of reading.

I bought a christmas cactus and DD invested in a chain of coloured christmas lights to fix over her sofa and of course the PC-guy took the day off.

Squirrel26 · 28/11/2020 16:19

I’m very short sighted. I’m not also long sighted yet, but it’s only a matter of time. Brilliant.

The dog is on my lap. There are some banging noises outside and he can’t decide if he’s bothered by them or not.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 28/11/2020 16:30

DD can't read numbers (it really is a major effort for her) and bought a 20m light chain instead of the 10m she wanted.

haircutsRus · 28/11/2020 16:38

DD has been to the shop this afternoon, bought sausages and bacon, made pigs in blankets and they are now snoozing in the freezer.

24 isn't going to be anywhere enough though, is it? Grin

EggyPegg · 28/11/2020 16:51

My Amazon order that was due tomorrow is now due today and is two stops away.

EggyPegg · 28/11/2020 16:52

Also, the results from the surveyor are in, and it's a yes. Our extension is a go

SilkieCat · 28/11/2020 16:52

Today DH said he'ld make the chicken run so the silkie chickens can move to their bigger house (he's been saying this every weekend since August but today made it outside). Then he came in and declared he had lost the instruction manual and couldn't make it.

DS said well its obvious how a chicken run goes together you don't put the door on the roof do you Hmm DH. DH wasn't convinced so I got the company to e-mail a new instruction manual which DH has printed but then declared it was time for lunch then it was too dark. DS was Sad DH was a tad grumpy.

Heard from EA and solicitors and I replied to them, no such luck with electrician. Ordered a Sainsburys order for tomorrow including cleaning things and Sunday lunch.

SilkieCat · 28/11/2020 16:54

Congrats Eggy Our buyers survey is cancelled again, 3rd time lucky.

HelenaJustina · 28/11/2020 16:57

My Christmas cake is baking away and I’m preparing cottage pies for the freezer and for lunch tomorrow. Domestic goddessness only belied by the lacking of hoovering so far today.

soddingkitten · 28/11/2020 17:05

I’m feeling a bit better today but still not right. Between my nap when I got in from work yesterday and my early night I slept for 10 hours. Six to 6.5 hours is normal for me. I have had an exceedingly dull day today, but was glad of it. The pinnacle of my slow, dull day was quiche for lunch. We have a food delivery soon and I realised earlier that I’ve ordered more frozen food than we have freezer space for. 😞

Frownette · 28/11/2020 17:17

@Sheusedtobesomeonelse beautiful cat.

Worn out here, had more difficult day than I expected but fairly good outcome, then fell asleep after tilapia curry, bombay aloo and rice. I've ran out of teabags.

Bleugh.

Frownette · 28/11/2020 17:20

Oh and thorough shower in a bit, I am so scintillating that I need to have a catnap to recuperate afterwards. Yes of course that's what it means. Recovering from the excitement.

Squirrel26 · 28/11/2020 17:21

Hooray for extension!
Back To The Future 2 is on.
Don’t know what to have for dinner.

Champagneforeveryone · 28/11/2020 17:44

Aren't extensions a little too exciting for this thread eggy Grin

We're having takeaway from the pub tonight.

DH is grumpy but insists he is not. He's attempted to sew up the pocket on his trousers, and is in such a towering temper that he cannot ask for help to thread the needle. He's therefore spent five minutes, face screwed up and emitting ever more petulant sighs until he managed it.

Nydj · 28/11/2020 17:44

I am concerned that I may be expelled from the thread but need to report that I managed to plant the grape hyacinth and tulip bulbs as well as the lily of the valley pips. I’m not convinced that the lily of valley pips will do anything but fingers crossed!

MissConductUS · 28/11/2020 17:50

@haircutsRus - Welcome and thanks for sharing your news. I guess it depends on how many people will be eating them. 24 will probably go quickly.

Sodding, sorry to hear you are still under the weather. If you had a fever I'd say it was norovirus. No fever is good though. Rest and fluids of course.

Congratulations to all who are moving ahead with your extensions. Building them seems to be a national pastime in the UK. Here most people would sell and buy a bigger house to avoid the bother.

We're having burgers on the grill and leftover mac & cheese for dinner, except for DD who doesn't like either. She'll get grilled teriyaki chicken breast and oven fries chips and onion rings.

I had a corker of a nap yesterday and I may go for two in a row.

Nydj · 28/11/2020 17:51

@Champagneforeveryone your DH needs one of these (sadly, I am at the stage where I cannot thread a needle without the aid of them.

Good news on the extension @EggyPegg although, once you are in the middle of the building work you will probably ask yourself why on earth you thought it was a good idea - but it will be worth it, I am sure.

@soddingkitten, I hope you feel better soon.

@SilkieRabbits, I’m so sorry you are being given the runaround on the things that need to be done on the sale of your house. Fingers crossed that things will happen as they should very soon.

Come and tell me your dull and unexciting news 7: Calmly through the day
EggyPegg · 28/11/2020 17:59

@Champagneforeveryone I feel that yes, the extension news is probably far too exciting for this thread. I did squeal a bit. Fear not, I need to study in a bit, so the washing machine playlist will return.

I am currently sat on the sofa. DH laid his head on me to watch the football, and then the DC sat on DH. It's only a two seater sofa.

The Amazon delivery has arrived. In it was a new Kindle Fire for DS1. We bought his last upgrade right before the newest version was released (we didn't know that at the time) and he's become increasingly frustrated as it's running so slow and kicking him out of apps. DS2 has the later upgrade and doesn't have the same issue.
So we've upgraded him to the same as DS2 and I've switched them out. His old one is already selling on eBay. The DC have no idea that neither of them have the Kindles they originally got for Christmas several years ago anymore.

SilkieCat · 28/11/2020 18:04

Thanks Nydj I think the originally surveyor may have covid so will let him off! Am glad we are getting a different one. Everything to do with work on houses / house sales has been sloth like this year due to covid delays but get there in the end, new thatched roof and chimney are done and work finished just the sale to do now.

I'm drinking milk and in need of sweets / cake. Hopefully DH will go out and get some, he's very good at fetching sweets and / or cake. I didn't marry him for no reason.

EggyPegg · 28/11/2020 18:10

@MissConductUS It's because it's significantly cheaper to extend than move. To buy a house that would give us the space that we want would cost us around £200,000 more than our current house is worth. And that's just purchase price, that doesn't include all the fees associated with moving (solicitors, estate agents etc). To do the extension, it'll cost us about £60,000.

We've looked at other properties that are around £100,00 more than our house, that have kitchens the size we want but invariably DS2 would end up with a significantly smaller bedroom (the 3rd bedroom is traditionally a tiny box room in many properties), so we'd stll need to do work to give us upstairs space.

Our plan is:
Convert the loft, put up a wall in our current bedroom (which is enormous) to create a double bedroom identical to DS1s and a new hallway for the new stairs.
Move DS2 into our old room (we have the loft). Convert DS2s bedroom into a bathroom (we currently only have one bathroom and toilet, and it's next to the kitchen).
Then we can do downstairs. Rip out the existing bathroom and kitchen, build an extension in the side recess and out the back. Giving us a huge space.

This way, we get large rooms across the whole house at a fraction of the cost.

MissConductUS · 28/11/2020 18:21

Eggy, that all makes sense and you've certainly planned it out. Only one bathroom and toilet must be an inconvenience. DD has her own bathroom and woe to anyone entering there.

It may also be that it's a bit harder to get planning permission to do extensions here. You can't change the look of the house too much, there are setback distances from the property line that have to be maintained, etc.

I've been doing some Christmas shopping, mostly on Amazon. I sent DH a list of some things for me and in the minute it took him to get the email the food processor I wanted sold out. Fortunately, there were alternatives.
