@Nydj

That you for the photo of the Corning dish, *@MissConductUS*. We have a few that look similar 😁 - as does every Inidian household that I have been over the past goodness knows how many years.

I lost my work mojo part way through the week so am glad to have finished work for the week. My lily of the valley pips have arrived so the plan is to pot them up this weekend. I will also plant grape hyacinth and tulip bulbs and that will bring all garden jobs to an end until next spring.

Friday night = pizza for dinner but with the added excitement of garlic bread this evening.

I’m so sorry - the smile looked like a perfectly normal smiley face in the preview of my post. Also, apologies for the typos.
soddingkitten · 27/11/2020 16:56

I’ve been feeling grim for the last 2 or 3 days. Some kind of viral gastric thing that is hideous without wiping you out completely. , I’ve had a headache and been more sneezy than usual. Nausea, colicky pain, horrific wind and abdominal cramps. I rallied this morning and thought I was over the worst of it. Nope. Currently lying on the sofa feeling sorry for myself.

DS2 has WW2 in Colour on Netflix on in the background. It is informative, interesting and beats his usual gamer streaming videos on YouTube hands down. I could now pick Mussolini, Franco and Goering out of a line up. DS is gripped. We are letting Netflix roll into the next episode, binge-watch style, and are up to 1940 and the redistribution of British overseas naval bases to the US navy. Who knew we had a base in Iceland?

MissConductUS · 27/11/2020 16:57

Nydj, both you and SilkieCat have mentioned garlic bread in consecutive posts. Coincidence or a message from the gods? Grin

I did buy some lovely French bread at the Italian grocery so we too could make garlic bread tonight. I'll see what the general feeling about this is.

DS and I will probably go to his favorite deli for lunch, as he hasn't had anything from there since last summer.

Raw feeding going well, DDogs have a marrow bone each. There's a great deal of slurping and crunching going on.

DS has a guitar lesson via Skype and DH is snorting at the news. I should put the oven on for dinner and start the ironing, but currently there's 2 spaniels rolling round the kitchen floor with their bones.

We bought a new fish today, we have christened him Robert.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 27/11/2020 17:21

Garlic bread is indeed a lovely invention.

I was promised couscous `today, but DH got his schedule messed up and we ended up with a tin of emergency potato soup.

The met people announced winter temperatures and even possibly snow for next week.

Nydj · 27/11/2020 17:29

Garlic bread using part baked baguettes, and cooked in the air fryer is a recent discovery for us and we can’t believe how good it is. Exciting mealtime ahead for us!

nancybotwinbloom · 27/11/2020 17:31

I ordered 90% of DD Christmas presents today.

SilkieCat · 27/11/2020 17:34

Sounds like it could be international garlic bread day!

Just received a wierd message from school - the latest covid case at school's test has been deemed invalid by the Office for National Statistics -no idea why the ONS (who are statisticians AFAIK) would be dealing with anything medical and those isolating can return. At least its not my children's years and they've apparently had a negative test now.

I had an e-mail inviting me to the 12 days of winter wildlife online by a museum.

WantChewbaccaForGood · 27/11/2020 18:51

I am wearing socks with stars & a sleepy owl on them.

I have some unexpected food items - avocado, lime and overripe pineapple.
I am uncharacteristically looking forward to making guacamole and some version of a pineapple and lime cake.
That isn't supposed to sound as though I am a dab hand, I will end up splodging the ingredients together & saying "oh that'll do", then no one else will eat it & I'll have to eat it all before it goes stale.

WantChewbaccaForGood · 27/11/2020 18:54

also - and this might not be very calm - I secretly ordered merchandise from the DC's favourite youtubers, for Christmas and both have arrived!

Or not quite. One sent the wrong one & I was most annoyed. They say they are going to send the correct one free (even though they are out of stock?) and I can keep the wrong one. I hope it arrives on time.

EggyPegg · 27/11/2020 19:08

@Nydj This is a bit too exciting for this thread. DH is currently obsessed with his air fryer. I hall suggest garlic bread to him. Do you have a recipe please?

Work was significantly better this morning. We played an audiobook and coloured all morning. Towards the end of the morning I went rogue and started to make a paper chain. Which was wonderfully soothing.

DS2s Beaver jumper arrived yesterday, so he was very proud to wear it to his meeting tonight. They learned about the Green Cross Code and decorated a paper bauble template for the local old folks home. They were encouraged to write a message on the back. DS dismissed my suggestion of a cheery 'Merry Christmas' and wrote 'To old peopple this is from DS2'.

Taswama · 27/11/2020 19:21

Thank you for the reminder to get a poinsettia.
I bought a second advent calendar today - a Hotel Chocolate one as an extravagant treat. I have decided that the DC can share the Green and Blacks one by having alternate days and I will hide the Hotel Chocolat one in my bedroom for myself. If you can't treat yourself this year, when can you?

Nydj · 27/11/2020 19:37

@EggyPegg, it’s embarrassing really but here goes. We use the part baked baguettes. Slice them without any cooking (but it works fine if you happen to have some baked ones). Spread garlic butter of your choice on each slice - I keep some kerrymaid garlic spreadable in the freezer as we are not big garlic eaters so are unlikely to have it in the house when we fancy garlic bread. Pre-hear air fryer for 3 minutes at 180-200°C and then pop in the bread slices and cook for 4 minutes. Eat.
Also, if your DH wants to try something different, there is a good Facebook group - Indian Air Fryer Recipes - with lots of great suggestions. Just let him know that when people mention ‘maida’ they are talking about plain flour aka all purpose for our USA based friends.

MrsWooster · 27/11/2020 19:38

We had a power cut this evening. It was very exciting- I we swung into action very efficiently, getting candles lit from the candle drawer. Sadly it only lasted 10 minutes. I am old and it reminded me of being a kid in the1970s when we had power cuts All The Time. Modern power cuts are not a patch on the old days.

Nydj · 27/11/2020 20:02

Oooh, pineapple and lime cake sounds like a winner @WantChewbaccaForGood.

TenCornMaidens · 27/11/2020 20:08

Watching Home Alone 2 against the wishes of older teen, but he has been sucked in and is chuckling away.

Boredsilly · 27/11/2020 21:12

My husband is going fishing tomorrow so the kitchen looks like a bombs hit it whilst he sorts all his stuff out, just about managed to get my Friday evening G&T!

Therainisback · 27/11/2020 21:28

Mrs Wooster
I have very fond memories of 1970s powercuts. Dad taking me up to bed by candlelight and telling me stories of when he was a boy, as not enough light to read a book easilySmileI
I have measured & planned my Advent window. My mission this weekend is to get it made.
I also need to clean the bathroom - that's as dull as can be.

MissConductUS · 27/11/2020 21:38

Living out in the woods power cuts are an annoyingly regular occurrence. It's almost always a tree coming down that does it. The worst I can recall was being out for 6 days after Hurricane Sandy. We had just bought the generator a few months before that so weren't in bad shape compared to some.

I have proposed garlic bread to the DC but the response is that with two pizzas we'll have plenty of bread on the table tonight.

@WantChewbaccaForGood - Welcome and thanks for sharing your news with us. Thank you also for your use of the phrase "dab hand". You have expanded my knowledge of British idioms and I am grateful indeed.

Fridge now groaning under the weight of Thanksgiving leftovers. I have a day off and will spend it doing laundry. Fingers crossed the cat will find somewhere other than the couch to barf up furballs between now and Christmas.

TrickyD · 27/11/2020 21:58

Man from our security company fixed the 'silent set' button on the alarm so it doesn't make me jump out of my skin when DH sets it,

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 27/11/2020 22:05

@TenCornMaidens

Watching Home Alone 2 against the wishes of older teen, but he has been sucked in and is chuckling away.
We will be going to see Home Alone 2 at the drive in movie place in December. DD made me book it, it wouldn't be my first choice of movie.
Nydj · 27/11/2020 22:17

We haven’t seen any of the home alone movies for years so I suggested that we watch the first one in the run up to Christmas - there weren’t any howls of dissent so I take that as a yes.

Taswama · 28/11/2020 08:07

We have all 4 home alone movies on our Christmas books and DVDs shelf. (They came as a set). I watched 1 and 2 with the DC when I first bought them a few years ago but let them watch 3 and 4 alone.

I've been seeing adverts for air fryers, are they worth getting? We have a deep fat fryer that comes out once a year to make home made fish and chips but is horrendous to clean so then doesn't get used again for ages. I originally thought I could make homemade doughnuts in it, but never have. Both DP and I are a lot more sensitive to fatty foods than 10 years ago too.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 28/11/2020 08:08

DH is off to collect his new bifocals.
It's rubbish to be very shortsighted and getting farsighted bc age at the same time.
He wants to make lime jam and chili sauces today.
