I was going to hold off posting this until at least the 1st of next month, but I don’t care, I’m posting now Grin

Anyway, what are your favourite songs? Mine are:

Fairytale of New York - The Pogues/Kirsty MacColl

Merry Christmas everybody - Slade

I wish it could be Christmas everyday - Wizzard

Last Christmas - Wham

I have loads more but I’ll be here all day listing them Grin

Happy Xmas (War Is Over)

Redglitter · 18/11/2020 02:23

Love Last Christmas
Merry Christmas Everyone
I wish it could be Christmas everyday

Absolutely HATE Fairytale of New York. Detest it. Always switch channels if it comes on the radio

foresttheout · 18/11/2020 06:18

@LateMumma I hadn't listened to that song in years,
This bit has just set me off for a good morning cry, currently very much my situation but its me in the sun.
And you find yourself nine thousand miles from home
You'll know what ever comes
Your brothers and sisters and me and your mum
Will be waiting for you in the sun

Usual favorites are Last christmas, A spaceman came travelling and carol of the bells

Currently "you Make it Feel Like Christmas" by Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani. It's such a fun and upbeat song. His version of Silent Night is beautiful too.
Carol of the Bells goes right to my soul.
A Spaceman Came Travelling by Chris de Burgh
And Fairy Tale of New York of course.

There's one out of Home Alone 2 when he's in the taxi from the airport but I can't remember what it's called or who it's by. Something like lonely this Christmas/alone at Christmas.

Autumncolourlover · 18/11/2020 06:41

All Alone On Christmas by Darlene Love. That's the one.

TheVanguardSix · 18/11/2020 06:45

Fairytale of New York
Once in Royal David’s City
Es is ein Ros Entsprungen- A German carol
The Charlie Brown Christmas soundtrack (which I grew up with in the States)

TheVanguardSix · 18/11/2020 06:46

Sorry, that’s Es IST ein Ros Entsprungen

MKCH · 18/11/2020 06:46

Ooh Underneath the Christmas Light by Sia.

It's not particularly upbeat but the chords and cadences make me shiver.

Xmasfairy86 · 18/11/2020 07:10

All of them!

But to name a few :

Mariah - all I want for Xmas
Leona Lewis - one more sleep
Kelly clarkson- underneath the tree
Chris Rea - driving home for Xmas
Merry Xmas everyone- shakin Stevens

OliveHenry · 18/11/2020 12:18

There are a couple of excellent Thea Gilmore tracks - "That'll Be Christmas", and "The St Stephen's Day Murders" (which features Mark Radcliffe on vocals, and is a great cover of the Elvis Costello/Chieftains song)

Liverbird77 · 18/11/2020 14:29

Christmas Wrapping by the Waitresses and The Power of Love by FGTH.

TheSilentStars · 18/11/2020 14:38

You've made me open my Spotify list and I'm updating with some of these.

To this thread I'm offering Il Divo's version of almost anything- but especially When A Child is Born and Oh Holy Night, Chris de Burgh and A Spaceman came travelling (and I'm not even faintly embarrassed) and Simon & Garfunkel 7'o'clock news.

ImWorriedAboutThis · 18/11/2020 15:02

Boney M - Mary’s boy child
Band Aid - Do they know it’s Christmas
Elton John - step in to Christmas

3ormorecharacters · 18/11/2020 15:11

Not one you find on many compilations but that I've really grown to appreciate over the last couple of years is the song from Home Alone, 'Somewhere in my Memory'. John Williams is really a very clever composer. It's really evocative of that Christmas nostalgia feeling - a half-invented shared memory of perfect childhood Christmases. You kind of know that it's a memory informed as much by films and TV as by any real experiences (which never really did or will live up to expectations) but you can't help feeling nostalgic for it. Plus it's a great film!

HeyManIJustWantSomeMuesli · 18/11/2020 15:20

Queen - Thank God it’s Christmas

Oneearringlost · 18/11/2020 15:53

"Hark the Herald Angels Sing", sung by the Huddersfield Choral Society and played at top volume.

"Universal Child" Annie Lennox

Pascha · 18/11/2020 15:57

I loathe and detest the Pogues one. If I never heard it again it would be too soon.

Sadly enough I quite enjoy the Buble doing his swingy thing in the background but I can't say any specifically Christmas song is really that enjoyable.

Maverick66 · 18/11/2020 16:07

O Holy Night
Driving Home for Christmas Chris Rea.

Shosha1 · 18/11/2020 16:07

I believe in Father Christmas- Greg Lake

picklecustard · 18/11/2020 20:53

Stop the cavalry by Jonah Louie
Christmas wrappy by the waitresses
Underneath the tree by Kelly clarkson (nice how something made less than 10 years ago is now getting played every Christmas)
Elton John- step into Christmas

KatyMac · 18/11/2020 20:57

Fed up with all of them!

DD has created an advent calendar of Christmas dance classes 24 little lessons to 7 Christmas tunes (we had picking the Christmas tunes, then choreographing them, then picking christmas outfits, then filming them!) I never want to hear some of them again!

Bah humbug!

Witchend · 18/11/2020 21:12

The shepherd's pipe carol
