I was going to hold off posting this until at least the 1st of next month, but I don’t care, I’m posting now Grin

Anyway, what are your favourite songs? Mine are:

Fairytale of New York - The Pogues/Kirsty MacColl

Merry Christmas everybody - Slade

I wish it could be Christmas everyday - Wizzard

Last Christmas - Wham

I have loads more but I’ll be here all day listing them Grin

All of them! I can’t wait for them to be on at work

Sojo88 · 17/11/2020 21:42

@TheSilentStars Absolutely. It seems to have had a lot of criticism recently because of its lyrics which is a shame - I think it's so well written.

MyPersona · 17/11/2020 21:48

The dream will never be o-o-over
Because we're keeping the dream alive

Masterpiece!

Last Christmas - Wham
A Spaceman came Travelling - Chris de Burgh

LittleMissBrainy · 17/11/2020 22:10

Oooh so many! I love them all, all the classics along with these masterpieces in particular:

Christmas in Hollis by Run DMC

Christmas Time by Bryan Adams

Merry Merry Christmas by NKOTB

2000 miles by The Pretenders

Oh Holy Night by Il Divo

If you haven't heard some of these, I highly recommend them as they just make you feel so Christmassy!

FrankiesKnuckle · 17/11/2020 22:11

The Ronettes sleigh ride
Queen Thank god it's Christmas

NeedWineNow · 17/11/2020 22:15

DH has just reminded me about Merry Christmas You Suckers by Paddy Roberts. Written in 1962 it's totally off the wall but never fails to make us grin Grin

sunnyday1976 · 17/11/2020 22:20

Stop the Cavalry - Jona Lewie
Anything on Annie Lennox's Christmas Cornucopia album.

LateMumma · 17/11/2020 22:24

Tim Minchin, White wine in the sun. Gets me every time

clare8allthepies · 17/11/2020 22:35

All of them! Last year the girls and I made an best Christmas playlist on our Amazon music app and there’s about 40 songs on it.

So we don’t get sick of it too early we have a ban on Christmassy stuff until the first of December. As soon as we crack open the advent calendars though it’s the whole works, decorations up Christmas films and alllll the songs!

@dudsville - the Carol you quoted is called The Carol of the Bells - the chamber choir I used to be in sang it one Christmas.

I’m joining the Fairytale of New York fans, for pop music.

My favourite classical Carol is probably In Dulci Jubilo - the eight-part version.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 17/11/2020 22:56
- for @dudsville.
greyhills · 17/11/2020 23:00

This year, thanks to the Asda advert, it is What Christmas means to me by Stevie Wonder. Phenomenal bassline Smile

MsCrapola · 17/11/2020 23:03

Fairytale of New York🎄

lowerthanlow · 17/11/2020 23:05

Darlene Love - All alone on Christmas.

StCharlotte · 17/11/2020 23:07

I'm ashamed to say it's Mariah Carey Blush

I also love Sweet Bells by Kate Rusby so hopefully I've redeemed myself.

lowerthanlow · 17/11/2020 23:07

But carol of the bells is my Christmas ringtone Grin

The Beach Boys - Little Saint Nick
Otis Reading - Merry Christmas Baby
Low - Just like Christmas
Johnny Mathis - When a child is born

FredZeppelin · 17/11/2020 23:41

Oh, forgot these:

Saint Etienne - I was born on Christmas Day
Jon & Vangelis - I’ll find my way home

Love a Christmas song, me Wink

Figmentofimagination · 17/11/2020 23:55

One that never gets mentioned, The Best Gift by Barbra Streisand.
Such a wonderful song about a baby being born at Christmas. Means a lot to my family as my Grandpa used to sing it to my mum who was born on Christmas Eve, and then was shared with my sister who was born just after Christmas.

Also, Santa Claus is Coming to Town by Frank Sinatra - loved dancing to that when I was younger.

And another Barbra Streisand song - Jingle Bells. It's sooooooo fast and hard to keep up with when you sing along, but my family always try and attempt it.

YouveGotMeWhosGotYou · 18/11/2020 00:08

Dulci Jubilo by Mike Oldfield is the best xmas song ever.

thegcatsmother · 18/11/2020 01:03

Fairytale of New York
I believe In Father Christmas - Emerson, Lake and Palmer
Stop the Cavalry - Jonah Lewy
Run With The Fox (I think it was Yes)
In Dulci Jubilo - Mike Oldfield
Gaudete - Steeleye Span, the Medieval babes (not convinced about the Erasure version)
A Spaceman Came Travelling - Chris de Burgh

thegcatsmother · 18/11/2020 01:09

Oh, and the Annie Lennox Christmas Conucopia, anything off there, except Silent Night, which sets my teeth on edge, whoever sings it.
