Sorry, "in store butchery".

Orangeblossom7777 · 16/11/2020 08:09

She seems very political, I have not agreed with some stuff said (Devi) for example was saying about eliminating the virus in Scotland as a real possibility and also about it coming over the border - seems very much a puppet of the SNP and extreme.

In the news today I thought this was fascinating.

www.thetimes.co.uk/edition/news/coronavirus-nhs-staff-flock-to-anti-vax-group-k8sq7q63w

Coronavirus: NHS staff flock to anti-vax group

"Julie Coffey, a Sheffield GP, has refused to wear a mask in shops and says coronavirus vaccines are being rushed through without proper safety checks"

"Hundreds of NHS and care home staff have formed a group opposed to vaccinations, wearing masks and testing in hospitals.

The group, NHS Workers for Choice, No Restrictions for Declining a Vaccine, has gained more than 250 Facebook members in a month. They include a GP, several accident and emergency nurses, healthcare assistants, lab workers, and private and public care home staff.

It says it is not an anti-vaccine group and exists to support healthcare workers, but The Times found posts saying that the Pfizer-BionTech coronavirus vaccine was a new frozen virus, similar to smallpox, to be “unleashed” on the world. They compared it to “poison”."

Btw am not anti vaxxer myself, just found this interesting. And a bit well, concerning.

@Orangeblossom7777 Interesting and show the measure of the woman.

WouldBeGood · 16/11/2020 08:46

Also in Scotland, Clinical Director Jason Leitch’s evangelical Christian charity is being accused of using charity to convert people in India. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Is he the dentist guy?

Orangeblossom7777 · 16/11/2020 09:01

It's all fascinating in a strange kind of way...

110APiccadilly · 16/11/2020 09:18

The thing is, you don't have to be anti-vax to have concerns about a particular vaccine, or at least want to wait a little while to check there's no longer term side effects. For most of us, that's not actually an immediate issue as we wouldn't be in the first group to get it anyway, so we can quietly wait and see what happens. For medical professionals, it's a much more immediate concern. (I suspect the vaccine=virus posts are an attempt at hijacking the group by a very small proportion of nut jobs.)

Orangeblossom7777 · 16/11/2020 09:22

I have been hearing that we don;t know how the vaccine may help the elderly yet.

So, what i wonder if we may have this pressure on younger people to get vaccinated to protect the elderly in the similar way as we have the pressure for other measures. Perhaps.

And yes it is a concern if the full long term safety of this vaccine has not been evaluated properly. there have been other vaccines which caused problems. Polio I think for example.

110APiccadilly · 16/11/2020 09:26

And, unlike others in groups likely to get an early vaccine, health care professionals aren't, as a group, more likely to have very poor outcomes from from catching Covid. (I've said before that if I was an 80-something, I'd very happily have the vaccine.) Health care professionals are also presumably worried about essentially being forced into having a vaccine - I assume no one will be removing the pensions of the over 80s if they decline their shot (though perhaps I shouldn't give people ideas) whereas there's a possibility health care professionals will have to have a vaccine or lose their jobs.
@SirSamuelVimes I've also been having a bit of a nostalgia trip about my youth. Have you been watching the BBC programmes on the naughties? That's what started mine. I'm slightly horrified my youth is now seen as history and worthy of a TV programme though!
I've not watched any proper TV for ages (just Netflix, Amazon prime etc) as I can't bear seeing all the "stay safe" balls. Will see if I can spot these on iPlayer though. Also horrified at the naughties being 'history'! Keep having to remind myself that when I'm thinking about my late teens, and I'm now nearing 40, that's actually a fairly substantial time gap. Boo!

Curlygirl06 · 16/11/2020 09:31

@LivinLaVidaLoki

I also had a random observation the other day and meant to share it here.

Not had any "have you been in a car accident" cold calls in what seems like forever. This last month they've started picking up. I've had quite a few.

Wonder if these companies are now thinking that due to track and trace people are more likely to answer numbers they don't know at the moment.....

Quite the opposite here regarding unknown phone numbers. If I don't recognize it I don't answer it. I go to work, go food shopping and look after the grandchildren one full day a week. I wear a mask, I wash my hands, I don't (or didn't) go to coffee shops or pubs so where would I get anything from. I worked for the government for years, I had no faith in their IT then and I'm sure it's no better now!
SufferingFromLongLockdown · 16/11/2020 09:34

I've just seen about the long covid clinics. I wonder what the criteria are for admission.
If I'd had a long term unexplained debilitating illness, I'd be tempted to claim suspected covid infection back when there was little testing and hope to finally get some decent efforts into finding out what is up. Still suffering from long flu, long glandular fever, long auto immune stuff? I'd be trying my luck.

110APiccadilly · 16/11/2020 09:35

Also horrified at the naughties being 'history'!

I'm periodically shocked that there are actual adults who weren't born when 9/11 happened.

I have a friend who's child was permanently damaged by the swine flu vaccine. She's looked into this vaccine very carefully (and let's face it, she's got a lot of vaccine knowledge, although not medically qualified) and she categorically wouldn't have it, it's too rushed.

Yes! I used to teach secondary English, there was an extract from Simon Armitage's Into the Blue poem about the WTC, it was so strange having a class of teenagers who weren't born when it happened.

I'm re-watching Friends at the moment and the twin towers feature in a lot of the New York skyline shots. I am quite far into the run though so I guess it wont be long until they've gone? A strange thing to think about.

DominaShantotto · 16/11/2020 09:43

I've had fricking tingly fingers since the LAST time NHS occ health got hold of me for a jab - she must have twanged something slightly and it's not quite healed up yet (it's on the mend thankfully).

Looks like it's year 6 out at the kids' school - lots and lots of performative covid theatre this morning again - making them line up 2m apart to go in (Why?! They're going to be sat in a small classroom together anyway!) and the like.

MissEWeatherwax · 16/11/2020 10:04

On the drive home from food shopping yesterday I had to swerve past a man who just stepped on to the road, to past a couple on the path. Good job there was no car coming the other way!

Orangeblossom7777 · 16/11/2020 10:13

I know the flu jab is less effective in the elderly so that concerns me about this one although may not be the same

Are we ever going to get to the stage of coming to terms with the fact that old people do die and are greater risk for many things I wonder. I'm not sure

starfish88 · 16/11/2020 10:15

@SirSamuelVimes Chandler and Monica's honeymoon marks 9/11 on Friends. These are deleted scenes from an episode that they had to change at the last minute.

As vaccines work by stimulating your own immune system and elderly people, in general, have weaker immunity, I suspect it will be less effective.

Less effective in general in the people that need it most. I think I'd rather rely on my own immunity, boosted with Vitamins D, C and zinc.

Although Asda has just kindly substituted Vitamin C for the zinc I ordered. They can have that back. It's zinc I currently need.
