How many hours' sleep do you get per night?

Unless I don't sleep well and wake up in the night and don't manage to go back to sleep, I get around nine per night (I get up at 8:00 as I WFH). For years I got six and I was always tired. If I get less than eight I'm positively grumpy. It's a shame because I could get so much more done if I didn't need so much sleep.

How many hours' sleep do you get and is it enough for you?

Used to have 9 but I believe you sleep less as you get older.

unicornparty · 12/11/2020 14:22

Between 7 and 8 hours. I feel groggy on 9 hours.

tunnocksreturns2019 · 12/11/2020 14:26

I need 7. I get between 5 and 6.5 generally.

I get up at 6.30am and kids go to bed fairly late now they’re older and I’m sacrificing sleep to have a bit of time on my own!

Waxonwaxoff0 · 12/11/2020 14:30

About 7.

BarefootbyMoonlight · 12/11/2020 14:37

Four regularly and occasionally a bit more or less.

I didn’t even realise it wasn’t ‘normal’ til quite late on in life.

I at least currently have the opportunity to lie down or nap when I feel tired so I’m gaining sleep.

My phone health app has me in bed a near solid 8hrs, ‘no sleep data’ available since day none though Grin

People seem to have quite a wide variance from the standard 8hr+ asleep per night, even before factoring in life stages, life events, world events etc.

Literallynoidea · 12/11/2020 14:39

About six. Would prefer seven.

LindaEllen · 12/11/2020 14:39

8 hours is perfect for me. Less and I feel tired, more and I feel groggy all day and never seem to quite wake up!

I WFH which is perfect as I can have as much sleep as I need and work to my schedule.

BiddyPop · 12/11/2020 14:39

I could do with 8 or 9, but usually I am lucky if I get 7. Many nights its far less than that.

vanillandhoney · 12/11/2020 14:48

I get about 7-8 hours a night. Anything less than six and I feel a bit crap by mid-afternoon. Anything less than five and I get headachy and very irritable Grin

JustFrigginNameChange · 12/11/2020 14:56

Between 5-6. I'd like more, but I wake up a lot

superking · 12/11/2020 14:58

About 8. Have made it through the years of night feeds/ non-sleeping baby/ random wake-ups/ co-sleeping and am absolutely loving my sleep!

NoEffingWay · 12/11/2020 14:59

I work nights so about 45 mins! I do sleep for about 6 hours a day though Grin.

When I'm off work I get about 8 hours a night and am a lot nicer to be around I suspect

megletthesecond · 12/11/2020 15:00

About 5 these days. Teens don't sleep until late and they argue.
Always grumpy and brain fogged.

scottishindy2 · 12/11/2020 15:01

About 6. I would love 9!

WhatAreWordsWorth · 12/11/2020 15:02

7-8 on weekdays, around 9 on weekends.

I barely function if I don’t get at least 7 hours.

Mamagotskills · 12/11/2020 15:02

About 8, I really need 9

HeyDouglas · 12/11/2020 15:04

About 7 broken up by needed a pee at least once and my 22 month old who co sleeps usually needs a pat on the back once or twice

Mcmole · 12/11/2020 15:04

7, would like more but there's just not enough time to do stuff otherwise

TooManyPlatesInMotion · 12/11/2020 15:14

I generally get about 7, which is fine. Have 3 small kids so consider myself bloody lucky. In an ideal world, 8. Much more than that and I feel odd.

BarryWhiteIsMyBrother · 12/11/2020 15:46

I sometimes ask my friends with kids how they cope on less sleep and inevitably they say that you get used to it. I wonder whether they get used to functioning on less sleep or functioning while tired!

DS is 21 months, I get 7-9 uninterrupted hours. He sleeps from 07:30 - 07:00.

When he was a baby I still got 7 hours but they were interrupted. I was in bed from 8-8 when he was a newborn, then the sleeping got better or the night wakings were a lot shorter.

weepingwillow22 · 12/11/2020 16:33

My fitbit says an average of 5 hours 27 minutes this week. I would love more but I have an autistic son and a baby who between them keep me up half the night.

wendz86 · 12/11/2020 16:34

Around 6-7 broken as my 5 year old still wakes most nights.

Notashandyta · 12/11/2020 16:41

I function best on 8- 9 hours.

Usually its 6-8 hours, mostly depending on the time of the month. I sleep less in the week before my period, even though I need it more.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 12/11/2020 16:45

I’m not getting nearly enough sleep right now. I need 8, I’m getting a very interrupted 5 or 6. It’s not nearly enough and it’s beginning to show. Just a lot going on making a long nights sleep difficult.
