I can't find a thread for this year's competition, and I'll never be able to get all the answers by myself. Please help! caboodle.nationalbooktokens.com/hiddenbooks/?competition=16

Finished it!! Definitely not as fun as previous years.

PenguinsOnParade · 12/11/2020 15:01

I know why I didn't get the roommate one before. I had a space in the middle of the main word. I was searching for so many other possibilities too.

Definitely not as fun as it felt when it started, I prefer the ones with loads more classics rather than modern books as I'm not good at keeping up with new releases.

Snoodleberry · 12/11/2020 15:04

I only got 4 originally, but now am at 17/20 thanks to everyone’s advice!

Still looking struggling with
Frankenstein on the phone
Thomas’s treasures lights
The coffee shop

Need to read back up the thread again!

Homassy · 12/11/2020 15:06

The two hams... I can't get beyond hamstring and it's not that! Argh it's frustrating

InMySpareTime · 12/11/2020 15:08

Shakespeare's son's name

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 12/11/2020 15:08

Finally got the three people at the canal. They're sitting in the wrong order!

TuesdaysWell · 12/11/2020 15:11

@JassyRadlett

Oh FUCKSAKE it took actually typing it to see it.
You clearly frequented a nicer type of nightclub in your teens, @JassyRadlett. Grin
steppemum · 12/11/2020 15:13

pulling teeth (sigh)

bees
coffee shop
cereal girls

Homassy · 12/11/2020 15:13

Thanks @InMySpareTime I'm almost there but it's giving me an amber not quite right....

TuesdaysWell · 12/11/2020 15:13

@Snoodleberry, Thomas is the name of the main character in a weighty historical trilogy. The two objects in the shop window are the two nouns in the title of the third volume.

Homassy · 12/11/2020 15:13

ARGH!!! Got it! Thanks Flowers

CaptainMyCaptain · 12/11/2020 15:14

Funicular is a film too, and not a very well known book. I only knew it because I randomly read about it the other day, which isn't much help.
The only one I can find on Google is in Japanese - is that it?

Snoodleberry · 12/11/2020 15:15

Thank you @TuesdaysWell got it! 😊

steppemum · 12/11/2020 15:16

you guys are amazing. I couldn't do it without this thread.

But usually I can do about half myself, this year I could hardly do any!

KiposWonderbeasts · 12/11/2020 15:18

It's a say what you see. Youn can see Ham, and what is surrounding it?
Snoodleberry · 12/11/2020 15:19

Two left 😬, Frankenstein and funiculi.....grrr!

InMySpareTime · 12/11/2020 15:22

@Snoodleberry it's not Frankenstein, it's his _?
What's it doing with the phone?

Snoodleberry · 12/11/2020 15:24

Cereal girls book ....it’s set in Nigeria.

TimeIhadaNameChange · 12/11/2020 15:24

@Snoodleberry

Two left 😬, Frankenstein and funiculi.....grrr!
It's not Frankenstein though, it's his.... What's he doing?

As for funiculi - that's a film based on the novel.

TuesdaysWell · 12/11/2020 15:26

It’s not Frankenstein, because Frankenstein’s is the creator — it’s Frankenstein’s [...] and he’s on the phone. The title riffs off the title of a famous JB Priestley play.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 12/11/2020 15:26

A J.B. Priestly play might get you on the right (phone)lines as well.

InMySpareTime · 12/11/2020 15:26

@Snoodleberry this would also do as a picture clue for the Frankenstein one:

This does seem tough this year - so many books I've never heard of this time around Confused

Still, with everyone's help here and a LOT of googling, I've just got two to go - the sunflowers and the funiculi. Grr.

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 12/11/2020 15:35

I have all but :

Corgi
Jewellers
Telescope
Funicular

Willing to trade

Also that Sunflowers One is an absolutely shit clue

Have you zoomed in the bottom right to see the word and translated it?

Then think of what kind of flowers and how lovely they are.
