A bit dark but I was reading about the Air France Flight 447 Disaster. The Co-pilot who was at the controls had his wife on board. She was a teacher so probably didn’t know much about aviation but it suddenly dawned on me that she probably felt extra safe with her DH flying. Like you do.

How accurately can you judge how good your OH is at their job?

DH does a completely different job role to me, albeit in the same industry. I don’t understand how his job is done. I couldn’t do it in a million years. It’s creative & technical. People say he is good at it so I assume they’re right but I don’t actually know that myself.

DP is a landscape gardener for a few stately homes and what he creates is stunning.

Well he has been there a long time and not been sacked!

Yes there’s always that!

We worked together for years and he’s exceptional at his job.

We work within the same unit and when he had to redeployed when I came on board (can't work on the same ward) the other wards were fighting over him which says its all really. I love when patients talk about him not knowing we're together... feels good knowing I'm with a well liked and very kind man.

My DP is very good at his job. I haven't a clue about his industry (IT), but he has lots of accolades, bonuses and we regularly get meals paid for as a reward for his achievements. I'm very proud of him as I assume he's an absolute whizz.

I met his boss and he told me how brilliant DH is!

Hes a junior in the same industry, I have seen him work and he has been hired at my place of work a few times (not by me) and he was very good and very efficient.

Hes better at junior level than I was at junior level.

That’s probably the best way to tell, but then you have to put up with them 24/7.

I've learnt a lot more about it since lockdown and WFH together - he really sounds like he knows what he's talking about on his calls (but then, I probably do too )

I know my DH is excellent at work - I've read his performance reviews, overheard conversations he's had with his boss, seen emails full of praise, colleagues go out of their way to tell me how great he is when we meet, he's been headhunted several times, they gave him a ridiculous pay rise to persuade him to stay when they found out another company was sniffing around, etc.

He has absolutely no idea how good I am at my job, it's a totally different field and I assume he thinks I'm great at it because he loves me and assumes I'm competent? I don't know. Maybe I'll ask him.

My DH is constantly telling me I’m better at my job than I think I am I say constantly, I mean when I’m winging saying I feel like I’m doing a shit job.

It was quite funny when I first stated working from home and he actually realised how many different things I do in a day.

Can’t comment on him as he’s studying atm.

DH is a specialist dentist and I'm a dental nurse. we've worked together before and it's nice to be with someone who knows what you're talking about and can give you advice etc.

Yes that’s the odd thing, isn’t it? We do assume that people we love are competent. Why?!

When I was gearing up to change career direction to mainly using X skill, DH kept telling me how good at it I was, but he hasn’t actually seen any examples of my “X” work at that point. 🤷🏽‍♀️

We used to work at the same place. He was in IT. As things went downhill after he got voluntary redundancy, I think he was probably pretty good at his job.

Dh teaches in a south east London comp in one of the most challenging schools

I've had the privilege of walking past the study (in lockdown) when he's been engaging a group of gcse maths re-sit students and I just couldn't believe how energetic/dynamic and engaged he was - he explained something about ten different ways to make sure they all got it

I can't believe he does that shit every day - he was amazing

(He's doing his headship quals now - different skill set - no idea how he will be at schmoozing businesses and governors - he has no talent for bullshit)

DH and I met at work and worked together on a couple of projects - that was back in the 90s though!

I guess the best way for me to judge now is that he found it straightforward to get a new job when he got sick of his old one last year.

DH is a Contractor. He usually gets offered a renewal when his contract is up, if he leaves he gets asked to stay and he has never had a gap in contracts. People he has previously worked with often ask him to work for them again
I think part of it is because he is quite unusual in his field (IT) as he’s quite bubbly and outgoing and gets on with people, plus he knows how to be political:if needed which may of his friends in similar jobs don’t

Dp and I work in the same sector and talk about work a lot. She has different skills to me and a different style, and our roles are not remotely similar but I know enough to know she is good at her job.

Maybe part of why we think/assume our partners are good at what they do is because it's part of the respect we have for them? I don’t think I would be attracted to someone if I didn't think they worked hard and were skilled.
That might not be a universal thing-possibly a bit Calvinist of me.

DH gets a bonus every year for being teacher’s pet (ok, it’s actually for achieving his targets but I like to wind him up) so I guess he is doing ok. He’s been head hunted twice as well. He is friends with my boss, who is always telling him how he can’t do without me so I guess I’m pretty good at my job too!

DHs work won an award. I'm fairly confident that would have happened if he were bad at it.

I think he's greats. He keeps getting promotions and hits crazy numbers like 150% of target. He also works at one of the top tech companies in world so high standards. He is rubbish at singing his own praises though so I think others who shout louder are sometimes heard more
