If someone asked you for "builders' tea", what would you make?

Colleague at work, when asked what they would like, asked for a cup of builders tea (no sugar). Several times. Each time I'd make it strong, then wonder why they went back to the kitchen and added more milk.
Eventually I asked them about it and they said they don't like it strong. When I queried this they said they ask for builders' tea in order to differentiate between regular tea and the decaf, redbush and other teas.
To me, builders' tea is strong tea. No?

Strong, tea bag left in for ages. But then milky AF.

HelloDulling · 06/11/2020 19:43

Yes. Builders is dark brown tea.

Namechangedforthisoct2 · 06/11/2020 19:43

Yes I’d say quite strong, milk and 1 sugar though. For some reason I think all builders must have 1 sugar in their tea Grin

Yes, builders tea is strong. Are you making it really really strong?

NoParticularPattern · 06/11/2020 19:44

Very strong tea with one sugar is what they’d get here

Bmidreams · 06/11/2020 19:44

Definitely strong tea, little milk. Dark colour.

mum2jakie · 06/11/2020 19:44

Yes - I'd definitely take that to mean strong tea, not much milk!

ProfessionalTeaDrinker · 06/11/2020 19:45

Builders tea is strong tea! Though, in my experience, most builders tend to drink anything they're given, they have no standards Grin

Zixxy · 06/11/2020 19:45

I'd say, well here are the teabags and the boiled kettle, off you go love!

TestingTestingWonTooFree · 06/11/2020 19:45

Builders tea is strong standard tea. I like weak standard tea. Yanbu.

museumum · 06/11/2020 19:46

It is strong but can also have a decent swig of milk too.

Tea strength and tea milkiness are separate factors.

RishiMcRichface · 06/11/2020 19:46

I would say very strong too. With 9 sugars and a pasty.

OverThinkingUnderDoing · 06/11/2020 19:46

I always thought builders tea was weak, milky tea

tubbycustardtummyache · 06/11/2020 19:46

I thought it meant English breakfast or similar rather than earl grey / lady grey
I wouldn’t assume anything about strength or milk or sugar!

FatimaMunchy · 06/11/2020 19:46

Strong, often with a lot of sugar.

JimandPam · 06/11/2020 19:46

Yup. My sister has her tea very strong and always asks for a 'builders' tea. I don't think she's often had to explain it.

Never heard of it's use for anything other than tea strength!

MustardMitt · 06/11/2020 19:46

I think they’re daft and mean breakfast tea Grin

midsomermurderess · 06/11/2020 19:46

Strong and milky. Sugar optional.

Mystraightenersarebroken · 06/11/2020 19:46

You're right - strong tea

SirSamuelVimes · 06/11/2020 19:47

Yep, definitely strong tea. Should have three sugars though.

Princesspickle777 · 06/11/2020 19:47

Strong & sweet with a little bit of milk. Tea bag left in for a while and stirred like crazy!.

IsThisNameTaken · 06/11/2020 19:47

Normal tea. strong but with plenty of milk

ColdNovemberNights · 06/11/2020 19:47

Strong, not much milk

WarmSausageTea · 06/11/2020 19:47

Builders’ tea is really strong and usually really milky. Envy

YANBU.

Simplyunacceptable · 06/11/2020 19:48

Always thought it meant a fuck load of sugar but I might be wrong.
