I'm watching the undoing on sky - what has Nicole Kidman done to her face ? I didn't recognise her .

@Quaagers they were just trying to distract us from the bank fraud, blade fun, swinging, joyriding and throwing TVs through hotel room windows.

Come back, feel free to discuss it.

ShadyBansheeThing · 05/11/2020 21:31

thirstyghost you’re right, I was being flippant but I didn’t actually mean he looks ancient, I meant that her unlined face makes his wrinkles (which are normal for his age) look really noticeable and extreme. I was not trying to be mean to Hugh, sorry Hugh.

Bluntness100 · 05/11/2020 21:33

Oh cmon she’s easily recognisable, don’t be bitchy. And she looks great.

QuentinQuarantino · 05/11/2020 21:38

She looks frozen and completely incapable of expressing any emotion. Which for an actor is beyond ironic.

SO depressing that all these talented women know they won't get work in Hollywood unless they go down the surgery route.

I've been rewatching The Sopranos and both have seen both Edie Falco (Carmela) and Lorraine Bracco (Dr Melfi) on podcasts recently and they both have the weird puffy, doll from the Saw movies filler face. And they're far from A-list actresses. Can't imagine the pressure the top tier actresses feel to never age.

I've also just watched S5 of Luther and it took me 10 mins to realise that Hermione Norris was Hermione Norris 😯. She just looked like a weird waxy impersonation of Hermione Norris and her mouth barely moved when she talked.

Meanwhile Hugh Grant looks like a shaved fucking ballsack and is getting more work than ever 🙄.

Tistheseason17 · 05/11/2020 21:41

Surgery is not for me BUT she looks incredible and seems a lovely person in all interviews if you can escape Tom Cruise and still get an Oscsr, you're going well.
Good for her!

MorrisZapp · 05/11/2020 21:41

Thread rule: nobody's allowed to name people who've had work done without including pic. My Google finger is aching.

fuckedandbombed · 05/11/2020 21:48

@Duckwit

I feel this picture really does sum up the difference in appearance standards between men and women in entertainment....

Also, High Grant is SIXTY?! How? When?!

Duckwit

Exactly.

The double standards are so depressing - men are allowed to be saggy-faced in films while the women are like expressionless dolls. I remember being shocked watching A Star Is Born and seeing how immobile Gaga’s face was - you just can’t ACT when your face is frozen. Meanwhile Bradley Cooper, obviously a good looking guy but he looked his age, with lots of wrinkles around the eyes and on the forehead - and he’s about 10 years older than Lady Gaga who was only about 32.

Really sad.

Bitbusyattheminute · 05/11/2020 21:53

In some ways, it takes the pressure off the rest of us. There is no way in a million years I'll look like any of these women at that age. Not even close. So I don't need to compare myself with them.

I think there's something beautiful about a lived in face. My gran was very, very wrinkled in her 60s, but that face said a lot more than a cut out one.

Bluntness100 · 05/11/2020 21:54

Nah she doesn’t she looks fantastic. Great figure too. Ans she’s a good actress. Her hair is awesome in it also.

I’m not a big fan but credit where it’s due, she looks fab and Hugh looks old and flabby and like he’s punching next to her.

AmICrazyorWhat2 · 05/11/2020 21:54

@notanotherlasagne

Hugh’s an odd one IMO as he’s got deep wrinkles. I know ordinary blokes in their 50’s and 60’s with far fewer lines. Too much sun, perhaps?

Bluntness100 · 05/11/2020 21:56

Helen hunt I’ll give you though, she looks really bad, I was shocked, I watched that thing , I see you, (which is fairly shit) and I genuinely took a moment to realise it was her. I was quite fascinated watching it.

Nicole Kidman is a very different animal.

LightThatFire · 05/11/2020 22:01

I too have been watching The Undoing.
I’ve never really seen Nicole Kidman in anything before and was trying to figure out whether her lack of expression and emotion was due to poor acting skills or plastic surgery.

ramarama · 05/11/2020 22:06

If you're from Australia you grew up watching her look entirely different. Take a look at this - it all started to change for her face in the early noughties:

Nonimai · 05/11/2020 22:08

I think she looks fabulous! I love the green velvety coat she is wearing in the program.

Like it did for most of us twenty years ago,,,,😂

Kettlingur · 05/11/2020 22:18

Yikes, I googled Helen Hunt and her face is so tight it might crack.

Renee Zellweger is a strange case. For a few years she did not look like herself at all, she clearly had some work done. Her eyes were completely different. But now she has somehow regained her signature look a bit?

Nicole Kidman used to go to the papers and claim she's never had any work done, it's just sunscreen and healthy eating. Hmm

IcedPurple · 05/11/2020 22:21

Jah sure, like all those celebrities who insist they never diet and owe their super slim figures to 'running after the kids'.

maverickallthetime · 05/11/2020 22:31

@Pollynextdoor she really doesn't look mid 30s. She looks younger than 53 but I'd say around 40+.

It's her mouth that looks like the joker that I'm finding disconcerting. But like others have said it's sad that this is what woman have to do to stay in the running to get parts

ShadyBansheeThing · 05/11/2020 22:42

I don’t know, I don’t think they have to do it. Laura Dern doesn’t have that smooth shiny look and she’s the same age as NK and was in big little lies. (She may have had surgery of course, I’m not an expert at spotting it).

I think some choose to go further than others and then maybe find it increasingly hard to stop. And I agree there shouldn’t be that pressure on women to look young. But also, I think it’s unhelpful to say women can’t get parts unless they have full on plastic face.

Delatron · 05/11/2020 22:46

I think Laura Dern was quite natural until a few years ago then she had some good/subtle work done. The key is leaving some age appropriate lines and movement I think.

LaurieFairyCake · 05/11/2020 22:50

Whatever it is she looks great for 50 plus - I look like a bag of actual bollocks next to her

I love her in the Undoing - great actress

itsgettingcoldoutside · 05/11/2020 22:52

I wondered too. Sad

Bouledeneige · 05/11/2020 22:54

I'm enjoying it but I had to laugh when she got some unexpected news and she couldn't move her face at all.

ittooshallpass · 05/11/2020 23:16

I find it really sad that women wreck their faces in this way - they look ridiculous. I do wonder where it's all going to end. Will their faces just eventually collapse like Michael Jackson's face did? Or will the long term effects of Botox be the next 'silicon implant' disaster?
