Help me! My Frying is stuck on the window ledge

Okay this isn’t a wind up.

Have name changed for this, penis beaker, Mexican house thief etc etc.

My DH put my favourite cast iron pan on the ledge outside our flat window as it was smoking, and he didn’t want to set of the fire alarm.

Well it was so hot it fused it’s self to the window ledge. We had a friend over at the time who it quite possibly the most musular man I know, and even he couldn’t get it off.

We rent so the last thing I want to do is tear it off along with the covering of the building.

We have one idea so far which is to use the cream brûlée torch to heat up the pan again. Would this work??

The next idea is to keep it there forever and turn it into a bird bath, but this risks the wrath of our landlord when we eventually move out.

I’m really upset as it cost ££££. Please wise MN, tell me what to do!

I have enclosed a photo hopefully showing the material on the building ledge it’s attached it’s self to.

Grin heat it up again? Boiling water maybe?

justanotherneighinparadise · 04/11/2020 16:06

Plant a flower in it and make out it was always there.

draughtycatflap · 04/11/2020 16:07

Dynamite?

BeeFarseer · 04/11/2020 16:08

Grin Grin Grin

Can you wiggle anything underneath it and prise it off?

TerrifiedandWorried · 04/11/2020 16:08

Boiling water is a really good idea, nice gentle heat and no risk of setting fire to the roof.

TerrifiedandWorried · 04/11/2020 16:08

Or lube and fish slice

Aquamarine1029 · 04/11/2020 16:09

Omg this is INSANE. HAHA.

I would try boiling water, too.

Your husband will never live this down.

SunShinesStill · 04/11/2020 16:10

Keep pouring in boiling water.

everybodyknowsus · 04/11/2020 16:11

Is this the new dinner plate down the back of the toilet?

CastleOfDoom · 04/11/2020 16:12

🤣

Bufferingkisses · 04/11/2020 16:13

It looks like roofing felt? So will have melted and fused. I'm all honesty I think you are going to struggle to remove it without tearing the felt. It would need to be really hot to melt again.

FlaviaAlbiaWantsLangClegBack · 04/11/2020 16:13

I'd go for the blowtorch and heat, mostly because you can reheat a baking pan to unstick cooled toffee so it might be similar...

PickledRick · 04/11/2020 16:14

If its roofing felt I suspect the frying pan is probably stuck to it. I don't think it will come off without ripping the felt.

WitchesBritchesPumpkinPants · 04/11/2020 16:14

I'd go for boiling liquid, though there must be something that stays hot longer than water...
I'd probably just put enough water to comfortably cover the bottom of the pan by 1/2cm then use the brûlée torch on the water to keep it hot but be careful not to apply it directly to the roof stuff.

Oh & tell your DH (again) that he's an idiot!! He could have just put it in the (cold) oven!

Cavagirl · 04/11/2020 16:15

Eeek not sure boiling water will be hot enough, and if it's not you then have a pan of boiling water on your roof!
I'd go blowtorch!!!

Choconuttolata · 04/11/2020 16:15

It will have melted and fused to the asphalt so even if you got it off you would damage the waterproofing of the asphalt and the bottom of the pan will be unusable.

Posh art installation?

Vebrithien · 04/11/2020 16:16

You'll need something to melt the pitch on the felt. Boiling water may be enough, but you may need hotter (pitch melting point is usually above 100°C). The cook's blow torch would help, then something to pry underneath it fish slice

Soubriquet · 04/11/2020 16:17

@TerrifiedandWorried

Or lube and fish slice
Damn! I was hoping to get there first!!

Sex lube and fish slice is my answer Grin

purrswhileheeats · 04/11/2020 16:18

OMG 🤣🤣🤣

I was going to suggest sex lube and a fish slice too Grin

nocoolnamesleft · 04/11/2020 16:18

I don't think you can remove it without causing a major leak in that flat roof.

Serin · 04/11/2020 16:19

How stupid is he, to not realise that roofing felt would melt.Blush
I'd try a blow torch then scrape it free and ring a roofer to come and repair the hole tomrw.

movingonup20 · 04/11/2020 16:20

Needs to be hotter than water so blow torch is worth a try, metal fish slice to prise it off, oven mitts but I suspect it's ruined the felt. Been there! (Except it was a disposable bbq)

Excitedforxmas · 04/11/2020 16:20

It will have melted the roofing . Oops

Urmm you'd have done better to let the smoke alarm go off.

This is hilarious, cheered up my evening, thanks Grin

It's there for good. Add some saucepans and make it into a "feature"
