Help me! My Frying is stuck on the window ledge

Okay this isn’t a wind up.

Have name changed for this, penis beaker, Mexican house thief etc etc.

My DH put my favourite cast iron pan on the ledge outside our flat window as it was smoking, and he didn’t want to set of the fire alarm.

Well it was so hot it fused it’s self to the window ledge. We had a friend over at the time who it quite possibly the most musular man I know, and even he couldn’t get it off.

We rent so the last thing I want to do is tear it off along with the covering of the building.

We have one idea so far which is to use the cream brûlée torch to heat up the pan again. Would this work??

The next idea is to keep it there forever and turn it into a bird bath, but this risks the wrath of our landlord when we eventually move out.

I’m really upset as it cost ££££. Please wise MN, tell me what to do!

I have enclosed a photo hopefully showing the material on the building ledge it’s attached it’s self to.

Blush

Leave it there and deny all knowledge

If he makes a hole the felt it will host more to repair than the cost of the pan

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 04/11/2020 17:23

Plant some herbs it it?

Helpmylecreuset · 04/11/2020 17:24

Unscrew and remove the handle and you have a bird bath.

LittleMissNaice · 04/11/2020 17:30

Definitely this. Get practicing your innocent face "Oh, that? Bird must have dropped it".

Mexican house thief??

CovidAnni · 04/11/2020 17:35

@TerrifiedandWorried

Or lube and fish slice
Old school!
SlipperyLizard · 04/11/2020 17:35

DH says to use a hairdryer to heat it gently, probably a bit more gentle than a blow torch!

EdwardCullensBiteOnTheSide · 04/11/2020 17:36

Is there already water in it? Looks like it in the pic

Helpmylecreuset · 04/11/2020 17:40

@FAQs

Mexican house thief??
Sorry, Mexican house thief was a classic MN thread. People often refer to it to ‘prove’ they have been on the forums for a while and they aren’t just a troll.

Shameless place marking.

OP keep us updated and you’ll have started a classic.

IsAnybodyListening · 04/11/2020 17:59

I mean. You gotta go big or go home here OP. Get a load of LEGO, make a surround for the pan, mini little slide for lego people to go down from your kitchen window. If the landlord mentions it, keep a straight face and say you were hoping he could add 'outdoor' pool in his listing when you move out. Smile

Rover83 · 04/11/2020 17:59

Surely trick or treaters did it right? Then I'd cross my fingers that there was no CCTV

2018SoFarSoGreat · 04/11/2020 17:59

oh, this did cheer me up today!

I'm in camp hairdyer. Safer than a blow torch!

(is that a fried egg in the pan or are my glasses really useless?)

It was almost certainly the trick or treaters. Most probably students. We dare not touch it, for fear of COVID. And it was definitely not my idiot husband.

No fried egg, it’s just the sunlight hitting it.

I think you'll just have to brazen it out. That you have absolutely NO idea how it got there. Can you reach it to wipe your fingerprints off, just in case?

I also think perhaps you'll have to make it your forever home now...

  1. That's not a window ledge, it's a roof. Are you both very young? Has you DH led a sheltered life?
  1. I would not let your DH near that roof with a blow torch, you will lose the building. He needs to master using a frying pan first.

A hairdryer won't work. Petrol will dissolve the asphalt but I'm not sure you will ever get that pan clean again, so I probably wouldn't bother for the risk of damage to the roof.

  1. It is trivially easy to patch that. Cut a hole and glue down a new piece of felt. Don't let your husband use the Stanley knife, they are sharp. It will be a lot cheaper than your landlord seeing it.

  • We are sadly in our 40s.
    1. He has not been allowed to wash the wedding glassware since we were married 4 years ago. He is now now allowed any access to the pan either.
    1. Many thanks for your sage advice. I now know that DH should not be allowed out of the bedroom. I intend to keep him there as some sort of pet, with a litter tray and food bowl outside the door, but will go it once a day to cuddle him.
