Welcome into another thread of alternative reality as we try to nagivate through the Coronacoaster of life.

We may be up, down, spinning around (generally in confusion at the next random edict drawn up on the back of a fag packet) but never sucking the joy out of life.

I've done a day or so WFH a week for the last couple of years, and I like it - it's generally a good time to get my head down and concentrate on something with no interruptions. However, I find full time WFH horrible. I like being in the office and having the chance to discuss things with people.

DominaShantotto · 11/11/2020 11:21

I can get a lot done at home - but it depends on DH not bothering me and he tends to wander in to see what I'm up to periodically which winds me the fuck up no end.

My back is shot from various office chair solutions now though and trying to get a comfortable desk going on.

I've given up on radio - I bought an Apple TV and Britbox subscription and I'm working my way back through Father Ted.

Reedwarbler · 11/11/2020 11:32

@DominaShantotto how are you finding Britbox? I had terrible problems with it hanging, buffering or just refusing to play certain programmes. I then has a look online and the trust pilot reviews are appalling, and saying much the same thing (so it wasn't just me). I found it so frustrating I cancelled it. Really annoying because there was so much old stuff I would like to re-watch.

MPs form group opposing future lockdowns, and putting pressure on the PM not to extend restrictions beyond 2nd December.

Good. Somebody needs to take a stand against the highly damaging lockdown. Such a group is more palatable than the one fronted by Nigel Farage (who seems very quiet).

DominaShantotto · 11/11/2020 11:38

@Reedwarbler it's got a hell of a lot on there that I'm likely to actually watch (otherwise I just stick the TV on the News channel on low which does NOTHING for my mood at the moment) - I've not had issues with it using it on iPads or an Apple TV box. I can't screen cast it to the telly or Sky Q box as they've blocked that which is very annoying though. I can never find much on Netflix I want to watch - I guess I'm just not great with US telly.

I was planning on spending last weekend re-watching the original House of Cards - but the US Election provided similar amounts of political intrigue and entertainment.

AcornAutumn · 11/11/2020 11:44

It’s only 1145 and the Groundhog Day factor is hitting hard already.

Iheartmysmart · 11/11/2020 11:52

@Reedwarbler Had the same issues with Britbox and if I stopped watching something halfway through it didn’t seem to save where I’d got to. Although that may have been my technological incompetence. Gave up and went back to Netflix. Shame as there appeared to be some good programmes on there.

HereComesYourMam · 11/11/2020 12:10

I've just mopped the floor dressed in running gear, while listening to National Express by the Divine Comedy, and THEN to my delight the Father Ted theme tune came on next. Do I win today's thread bingo?

Dowser · 11/11/2020 12:14

@HereComesYourMam
Oh I love that song

Dowser · 11/11/2020 12:15

I was playing some of Neil diamonds belters
Love his voice when it was in its prime

Definitely! 🏆
NastyBlouse · 11/11/2020 12:44

Acorn I've got that song stuck in my head now. "And everybody sings... BAH BAH BAH-DAH BAH BAH BAH-BAH!"

Dowser See I like gravelly ruined Diamond, the Rick Rubin era. Pretty Amazing Grace is one of my favourite songs ever.

DrDiva · 11/11/2020 12:48

I feel a Christmas special coming on, in which a trio, wearing jumpers festooned with the Three Jingle Bellends, give a rendition of the song lyrics offered in this thread. We could probably keep the NHS running on the proceeds.
I can offer piano services, if @Weneedmusicandtheatre can sing? We just need a guitar or drums, if someone can offer?...

Aztectrousers · 11/11/2020 12:56

Same here Whoooootaminute. Ds graduated last year and was taking a bit of time out before starting a PHD but things went tits up and all funding put on hold. He’s currently at home and working in a factory but desperate to get back to his studies.

I hope those MPs make enough of a fuss that the government start listening to alternative evidence and come out of the trance that they seem to be in.

How can this only be day 7 of this bloody lockdown in England!!!!

LivinLaVidaLoki · 11/11/2020 13:00

@AcornAutumn

Oh my god I LOVE that song!!!!

BogRollBOGOF · 11/11/2020 13:00

The christmas lights are creeping up around here. Fairly low key white ones so far. I'd be tempted to join in if it wasn't for our roof saga. Currently scaffolding free which at least means there is more light in the house which was probably a factor dragging me down and I certainly feel better now it's gone.

Bit early for carols but okay

🎤We three Bellends of Britain are
Trampling rights, we traverse afar
Chris Half Whitty, Sir Unbalanced
Following pharma stars

Oh, pharma shares and pharma rights
Test & trace all in our sight
China leading, still proceeding
Control for all of our lives.🎤

It scans, seriously.

Oh, do you mean National Express? Yes, I liked them. Especially “something for the weekend”.

AcornAutumn · 11/11/2020 13:03

PS I’m working late on a meeting with the US office btw, not just MNing while working!

BogRollBOGOF · 11/11/2020 13:05

I love Pretty Amazing Grace. I'm not Neil Diamond's typicaldemographic, but I love the way his voice just flows out so naturally.

I can't be doing with breathy wailing. Listening to Ariana Grande when she sang at the Manchester concert after the attack, she has a great voice, but I hate the wailly style that she and many of her peers usually go for.

I should crack on with this EHCP form...

Here in Sonic's burrow we've managed to have an almighty row about what order to re-do fence/put up shed/knock down garage. It escalated into a much-more-dramatic-than-was-necessary furore and I may have opened some wine Confused

Released from lockdown tomorrow.

Sonicthehedgehogg · 11/11/2020 13:21

*isolation (I may have had two glasses)

AcornAutumn · 11/11/2020 13:46

Sonic, tomorrow? What a relief.

Sorry, I got slightly carried away so here’s my version of “it came upon on a midnight clear”.

🎤It came on March the 23rd
The edict that ruined our lives
Although it was not actual law
Till Thursday - Boris lies

We were all doing what we should
The West End closed their doors
They did not trust our common sense
Or try disease control

Months later, we are still not free
It’s true across the world
Except for Swedish common sense
Immunity, I’ve “herd” (sorry)

Above our sad and lonely plains
Smell of corruption thick,
There’s more to this debacle
Than Matt Hancock being thick.🎤 🎄

MaudesMum · 11/11/2020 14:16

@Whoooootaminute Couldn't agree more about the staying at home thing! I work from home, and live by myself, and it's never been an issue until the first lockdown and now this one, because of all the things I did which took me out of the home. I used to have regular trips to London for work (which I used to combine with visits to shops and galleries), and also took part in various activities in my town on a regular basis. And, there'd always be things to look forward to like visits to see friends or vice-versa, and trips to see plays and so on.
