Welcome into another thread of alternative reality as we try to nagivate through the Coronacoaster of life.

We may be up, down, spinning around (generally in confusion at the next random edict drawn up on the back of a fag packet) but never sucking the joy out of life.

I need to swim again, the hotel I used is going to stay closed until England opens up again ditto all the hotels with swimming pools. My back needs some swimming I have had problems with it for years that physio. cannot treat as well as swimming.

Someone on our Wales thread said her year 9 child was told by teacher they would break up early and there would be a lockdown until xmas eve. Well I think that would be the straw that broke the camels back.

MercyBooth · 10/11/2020 19:08

If the vaccine has to be administered in two doses 3 weeks apart and they are starting around 1st December wont the second dose be due on or around Christmas Day?

LivinLaVidaLoki · 10/11/2020 19:10

@AcornAutumn
You do have to indeed. Its the same as it was last time. Its not texting and asking permission as such its a bit like a track and trace, you text them where you are going and for what purpose etc. Its not really any different to having to download an app, or take your ID out or give your details out where you go (not that anywhere aside from school and supermarkets and pharmacies and takeaways are open, bit like here).
My aunt finds it easier as she's got an old brick of a phone that would never manage an app.

SOboredofcleaning · 10/11/2020 19:18

Oh god @justasking111 I really need to swim too! Everything aches.
Supposedly the safest thing you can do. But no. The pools are closed. 🙄🤪🤬😩🤷‍♀️

TheOrchidKiller · 10/11/2020 19:32

@LivinLaVidaLoki
Thanks for clarifying the texting the govt thing. I had visions of whatsapp conversations with Boris about going out for dinner! Confused

That'll be interesting then. No one will turn up if it's a choice between a covid booster vaccination or slobbing on the sofa in front of an old Christmas Special repeat on the telly, with a bucket of Quality Street!

But it’s appalling full stop.

Why in the name of everything does a government need to know when someone goes out for a stroll? Or anything else for that matter?

The worst thing about all this is how accepting people are.

Littlebelina · 10/11/2020 19:37

I'd chose the booster over the Mrs Brown's Boys Xmas special.....

BogRollBOGOF · 10/11/2020 19:37

@110APiccadilly

"Aquanatal was follwed by the School for the Deaf's lessons, and in the showers we learned BSL for "Whoa! Check out the bumps on them! They're MASSIVE!!! BSL is not subtle"

This made me laugh! I used to go to Aquafit which I loved, but of course it's not running at the moment (because to keep us all 2m apart most of us would need to be underwater).

We used to do a skipping in a circle thing which quickly developed into a vortex that would sweep me out of my depth with much frantic doggy paddling to try and stay in the circle Grin

Each week at the end, the grunts got louder as we heaved up the steps of doom to get out Grin

Well I'm working long days on Christmas Eve and Boxing Day, so as long as they don't want me to drive into work on Christmas Day then that's fine by me!
LivinLaVidaLoki · 10/11/2020 19:46

@AcornAutumn I'm not saying its right at all, I'm just saying that it's really not that different to having to provide your details everywhere you go.

Oh sure, I understand. I just think it’s a lot more draconian than T&T for a restaurant, where I ha e an option not to go.

LivinLaVidaLoki · 10/11/2020 20:03

@AcornAutumn sorry, I know my messages can come across as a bit short so sorry I've just read my last one back and it sounded a bit rude.
The way I think its perceived over there is mixed. Quite a few people think its been done this way to make it more accessible to people, everyone can pretty much do it.

My aunt who I mentioned above is usually very questioning and skeptical of the government, she is a usually quite a rebel 😉 I love her to bits. It saddens me to see that she has started saying things like "well this is easier I suppose".

It is questioned a lot and the general population think its a huge infringement of their rights. I doubt they would put up with it much longer than the 3 weeks initially proposed.

A big issue in a lot of Greece is health inequality due to widespread poverty following years of Austerity. This coupled with the fact that the same Austerity measures have decimated parts of the health care system puts them in a very risky position.

I know I went a bit off topic there, again, sorry!

@justasking111 Are any council run pools open, if the hotels are putting it off till the English can visit again?

The rules are onerous, you can book two days ahead, no more no less, only at certain times, you get a lane to yourself so very limited numbers wise. It is cold, you get 45 minutes then have to get out shower and dress. It is bloody cold. Now I cannot swim solidly for 45 minutes, at the hotel, I swim for a bit, have a rest, then swim a bit more, building up my strength every time I go. Being asthmatic after all this time I will not be able to just swim, swim, swim.

"I'd chose the booster over the Mrs Brown's Boys Xmas special....."

I'll see you in the queue.

Had a row with DS. Feel rubbish. It was over the pros & cons of mass testing. I tried pointing out that if he tests positive & is asymptomatic we are all stuffed. Apparently, I am selfish for prioritising wanting to go out over containing the spread. Yeah, I probably am selfish, but I have very mixed feelings over mass testing. I just wanted to have a conversation about critical thinking, but I am WRONG! It will also be all my fault when we have to self-isolate & have no Christmas treats in the house because I wasn't able to go shopping.

TheOrchidKiller · 10/11/2020 20:43

For any lurkers, just want to point out that I will self-isolate, if anyone in the household tests positive, etc etc etc.

Bollss · 10/11/2020 20:46

Apparently our council area is getting mass testing soon. No thank you very much until we are forced.

TheOrchidKiller · 10/11/2020 20:58

I already do a weekly test. I am slightly contradicting myself over asymptomatic testing, & the "risk" of getting a positive result & forcing the household to stay at home. But there's a 50/50 chance I've had the covid vaccine & not the control vaccine, & if only one of us is being tested it feels like I'm reducing the chances of a positive result. If the DCs (who are old enough to decide for themselves) are also tested, & DH goes along too, it feels like there is an increased chance one of us will be positive. Or falsely-positive, which DS doesn't believe in.

It still feels to me that more testing= more cases found= less chance out of lockdown/ tier 3. Selfishly, the only thing keeping me going is the prospect of a few normal shops & cafes being open in December. I can't contemplate that light at the end of the tunnel being switched off.

My kids want to do their bit, I suppose.

I’m quite confused, is it work making you have weekly testing?
AcornAutumn · 10/11/2020 21:11

Livin don’t worry, you didn’t come across as rude at all.

TheOrchidKiller · 10/11/2020 21:22

@AcornAutumn
Sorry, I'm tired & not explaining myself properly.

I'm in a vaccine trial. We have weekly tests. We were either randomly given a covid vaccine or a different vaccine as a control but won't know until after the trial which one we got.

I took part knowing I might test positive & be asymptomatic but it felt worth the risk when I started it. I have mixed feelings now but want to see it through.

Oh I see.

I can imagine a lot of people pulling out due to the disruption.

Do you mind if I ask, are there incentives attached?

TheOrchidKiller · 10/11/2020 21:42

@AcornAutumn
Absolutely no incentives! Not even a cup of tea.

TheOrchidKiller · 10/11/2020 21:46

And we don't know what jab we've been given in case we change our behaviour. There's a potential for people being less careful with their social distancing & hand washing if they think they've had the vaccine, and the possibility that if you know you've had it, it could produce a placebo effect & invalidate any results.

I've learnt a lot about clinical trials. Not sure I'd do it again though, not even for money. It's a bit of a hassle.

justasking111 · 10/11/2020 22:09

On another thread a woman half way through a pregnancy is having health issues, some folk are saying you need to be seen, others are saying no its covid get a test, do not go to hospital. OMG no wonder the death rates in homes were so high this year.
