ADs won't tut when you're stuck in a rut, we're all too busy pouring Amaretto in our porridge

Welcome into another thread of alternative reality as we try to nagivate through the Coronacoaster of life.

We may be up, down, spinning around (generally in confusion at the next random edict drawn up on the back of a fag packet) but never sucking the joy out of life.

No worries @Evenstar. It's worrying that anyone would report it - and awful that the law forbids it.

TabbyStar · 09/11/2020 11:31

That shooting is shocking, yet the reporting on it seems subdued. I can't see it on the BBC.

NeedWineNow · 09/11/2020 11:39

@zigaziga. Yes!

Orangeblossom7777 · 09/11/2020 11:44

I noticed it first on local BBC news here where it doesn't mention anything about lockdown. (shooting)

www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-wiltshire-54862787

Orangeblossom7777 · 09/11/2020 11:46

"the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC), which is investigating.

It said the shooting happened after Wiltshire Police were called to two men "arguing in the street".

The force said it would be stepping up its presence in the area but added there was no danger to the public."

Bit of a different story there then Hmm unless it is a different shooting, doubt it though

Orangeblossom7777 · 09/11/2020 11:47

It is the same photo and time in both articles so think it is the same. Odd to see different story on the BBC one

Iheartmysmart · 09/11/2020 12:09

@Orangeblossom7777 That was on the news on R6 yesterday. Horrific!
Just ventured onto the thread where the OP is questioning the Government’s right to tell her who she can have in her house. The replies are awful but not unexpected.

Daisymaze · 09/11/2020 12:13

The 2 men who ended up arguing in the street had both been in the same garden, so the fight wasn't anything to do with breaking lockdown rules or disagreeing over it. It's a tragedy someone has lost their life, but he had a weapon in each hand (only one was a gun), and they gave him 3 chances to drop it, he didn't and they shot him to preserve the life of others. Not sure why it's being mentioned on this thread.

Daisymaze · 09/11/2020 12:14

And fatal disarment is always referred to the IOPC to investigate. Let's not use someone's death to comment on this FFS.

LivinLaVidaLoki · 09/11/2020 12:16

Hi @Daisymaze

I think it was referred to on this thread because of the way it was reported in the Times.

LadyOfTheImprovisedBath · 09/11/2020 12:17

Just ventured onto the thread where the OP is questioning the Government’s right to tell her who she can have in her house. The replies are awful but not unexpected.

I'm on that thread near it's start and while they are some awful replies - especially towards the end as it was moved to the covid board - there were many posters questioning things and expressing concerns.

LadyOfTheImprovisedBath · 09/11/2020 12:20

Some good news

Covid vaccine: First vaccine offers 90% protection

It needs two injections and had storage issues - but still good news and a possible way out of all this.

TabbyStar · 09/11/2020 12:37

It's not usually shoot to kill though is it?

theThreeofWeevils · 09/11/2020 12:43

I find it amazing that you can't get the police to respond for a burglary or some such, but if you dare have someone round for a cuppa they come down on you like a ton of bricks

FFS, do you still not understand The Rules?
A burglar working alone entering a property in the householder's absence is socially distancing and not contributing to the spread of This Deadly Virus. Responsible burglars will wipe down any surfaces they have come into contact with. YABVVU to expect overstretched police to waste time on something which involves no risk to public health.

Sonicthehedgehogg · 09/11/2020 12:47

Ha ha @theThreeofWeevils.... I started reading your post and thought you were a thread-troll who had wandered in before it clicked Grin

Time for your nap Sonic....

theThreeofWeevils · 09/11/2020 12:59

Pretty much the effect I was aiming for, @Sonicthehedgehogg.
Enjoy your nap Wink

TheSmallClangerWhistlesAgain · 09/11/2020 13:00

I really am going to put some amaretto in my next bowl of porridge.

Feeling very defeated right now. This weekend was the first one I'd had to myself after 5 weeks of working them. I tried to cheer myself up by making a cake and ended up nearly having a meltdown in Sainsburys. The endless, brainless, unnecessary queueing was the straw that broke this little camel's back.

It's not been helpful that a couple of friends have gone full-on dementor either. One has been muted on FB after an outburst that included how she was "not interested in your excuses for not wearing a mask".

AcornAutumn · 09/11/2020 13:22

clanger please do, it was my idea but I’ve never actually done it.

Worried that tonight’s press junket will be Johnson announcing we all ha e to wear masks as soon as we leave our homes.

chocolatesweets · 09/11/2020 13:26

Hi everyone haven't been on this for a while. Hope everyone's ok.

I've been thinking a lot about our situation. All through my life , I've been told work hard , get a degree etc. If you have kids it's YOUR responsibility even if you're struggling. Tough. We have twins and no extra help from government just deal with it and we have. Our family is brilliant btw.

Anyway, along comes corona and if we don't help the world then we are selfish! It's double standards or am I wrong?

I do what I can to help other people in my life but when I slip into despair myself , what help am I to anyone?

NeedWineNow · 09/11/2020 13:45

@theThreeofWeevils @Sonicthehedgehogg

I did wonder until I read it through! Love it Grin

WouldBeGood · 09/11/2020 13:50

@theThreeofWeevils. Any burglar should also be wearing a mask and gloves.

justasking111 · 09/11/2020 13:51

My corner of Wales has gone nuts we have a big shopping centre just over the border Broughton, it is rammed today a lot of scouse accents, so they managed to get in.

Llandudno is rammed, traffic lights cannot cope they poured in from all over N Wales, county lines now being lifted. It is like xmas week in Llandudno. To be avoided at all costs. To be fair our numbers in N Wales are very low in under over over 10 daily. One person posted her friends husband had a heart attack, went into hospital tested negative for covid, was in ICU very poorly, died they retested his corpse and came up with covid.

BogRollBOGOF · 09/11/2020 14:02

I have a Monday Morning Mockdown Plan Grin

Made it over to my friend's for us to walk together and had a great morning. Best morning I've had for yonks. So while she's on furlough, we're going to make a habit of it to get the week off to a good start.

Bonus, she's got a tip nearby which does not have stupid booking systems, so we now have floor space in our garage for the first time in a year!

Just been reading about this new vaccine. Apparently it has to be stored at minus 80 degrees, which means there probably won't be an orderly queue in the surgery car park to receive it. (And surely it's frozen solid anyway and needs careful defrosting?) I don't know about these things, but that sounds quite specialised storage. Do you think hospitals will have to purchase that as well? I can just imagine whole batches being ruined because someone set the temperature wrong or left the door open.
It could be good news but I won't hold my breath.

110APiccadilly · 09/11/2020 14:47

Someone on another thread said that hospitals do have -80 degree freezers (for storing samples?). I guess that means roll out would need to use hospitals rather than GPs, but I have to say I'm hopeful about it - not for having the vaccine myself, I'm not vulnerable and a bit concerned about long term side effects - but if those who are vulnerable and want it can have it, that's great, and also should mean we can get back to normal, right? (Also, although I wouldn't want it, I would happily be queuing up if I was over 70 or had serious underlying conditions. It's about making the right risk/reward balance choice.)
