Welcome into another thread of alternative reality as we try to nagivate through the Coronacoaster of life.

We may be up, down, spinning around (generally in confusion at the next random edict drawn up on the back of a fag packet) but never sucking the joy out of life.

@LivinLaVidaLoki

Just seen our local paper has reported that a man in a neighbouring town has been fined for going to his mates house for a cuppa.

So, let me get this straight in a town where you can be waiting days, weeks (if at all) for the police to turn up for a burglary, assault or theft, they are straight on the case if Mrs Jones at no.75 calls up and tells them her neighbours got someone round for a cuppa.

I honestly can't believe it.

Low hanging fruit. Public trust in the police is already so low; this shit will do even more damage.
MercyBooth · 08/11/2020 19:59

They have fucked community relations in the arse.

MercyBooth · 08/11/2020 20:04

@LivinLaVidaLoki Was he fined on the spot or later on. This is important because the police said that Stanley Johnson couldnt be fined retrospectively for not wearing a mask.

MercyBooth · 08/11/2020 20:07

its still shit obvs but i was just wondering if there was hypocrisy /one rule for one etc involved as well.

LivinLaVidaLoki · 08/11/2020 20:13

@MercyBooth I'm assuming on the spot as the "offence" only occurred on the 6th Nov.

Sonicthehedgehogg · 08/11/2020 20:24
@BogRollBOGOF I got a little confused there for a sec, read it as you walking with your DH’s wife and thought, isn’t that you??! GrinBlush My brain has given up the ghost today.

Had a lovely time cooking a ridiculously calorific lamb roast dinner with caramelised celeriac mash, fondant potatoes and broccoli. Hoovered by everyone.
Wow. Can I come round for Sunday tea? (We had freezer chilli on spuds).

MercyBooth · 08/11/2020 20:28

Ah i see. I was just reading the fb comments under the article on LancsLive page. About 60/40 in his favour. V different to what it would have been back in the spring.

DrDiva · 08/11/2020 20:29

@Sonicthehedgehogg come round and fix the boiler or something. Then I can let you in for tea!

Sonicthehedgehogg · 08/11/2020 20:33

@DrDiva I have an EXCELLENT track record of fixing the boiler. DH avoids it until I get annoyed with him and then I button smash until it works again Grin

If you happen to be at the playground with your kids at the same time as your friend is at the playground with her kids, you can't exactly stop the kids playing together can you?

I really wish she could drive. We're a bit stuck with what's on her doorstep at the moment, and it's not the easiest combination of kids to satisfy. The older ones are getting a bit too "cool" to hang around the playground. One of the others exists in his own time zone... well maybe both of them fit that description but not in any compativle way Grin

Llandudno promenade, yesterday protestors about covid some grumbles selfish buggers. Today on the same promenade people turned up in the rain umbrellas up at 11 am to see the wreaths laid on the cenotaph. Well they unleashed the hounds of hell on facebook, selfish, murderers. We really have our priorities right in Wales.

MercyBooth · 08/11/2020 23:32

Its making the nationals
www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/man-fined-police-visiting-friends-22977379?22=

I have a feeling Dominic Cummings Margaret Ferrier et all are going to be trending again very soon.

LivinLaVidaLoki · 09/11/2020 06:34

@MercyBooth
The police apparently put it on their Facebook page to make an example of him. Do they honestly think this kind of thing will help build trust with the police.

Also, hope which ever neighbour grassed him up (cos let's face it, how else would they know) is feeling very pleased with themselves now.

Also, strange how GMP didn't fine Paul Scholes when he broke lockdown. Or any of the footballers who attended a surprise birthday earlier this year. But a man going for a brew with his mate.....assemble the fucking swat team.

tappitytaptap · 09/11/2020 07:21

I said hi on the last thread then didn’t post. Might come and hang out here for a bit after being told off on another thread for not obeying someone’s made up rules around childcare bubbles, as my parents have to do some of the childcare in my house due to school drop off/pick up. Apparently this is not allowed (I wouldn’t be in my house if I weren’t working from home as instructed!)- instead I should drive miles out of my way every day because otherwise I personally am the reason the lockdown will be extended 🙄. In real life most of the people I know are for example using more than one set of parents or having the kids stay overnight occasionally (we did this the other day as my youngest doesn’t sleep), but no, on mumsnet people are handing over one year olds on doorsteps and ignoring their families. I’m just waiting for my parents over zealous neighbours to report us for having a childcare bubble - they have form, though that story is for another time!

Evenstar · 09/11/2020 08:29

In total shock about someone reporting ONE person for a cuppa, a massive party I could understand, but most people probably wouldn’t even notice one person going to a neighbour’s house. I think the police will lose any community co-operation if they persist in behaving like this whilst not attending for actual crimes.

On a brighter note we drove half an hour to a lovely garden yesterday and enjoyed a sandwich from the cafe after a lovely walk. It was quiet and we so enjoyed a bit of normality and some wonderful autumn colours.

110APiccadilly · 09/11/2020 08:39

The only reason I can think for reporting someone for a cuppa is settling old scores (loud music, parking, whatever). Otherwise, why would you bother?

Evenstar · 09/11/2020 08:47

@110APiccadilly I would just hope that people could have a little compassion at this time and realise that one person going in for a cup of tea might well have been in desperate need of support. It really isn’t a time to settle old scores.

110APiccadilly · 09/11/2020 08:51

I certainly wasn't saying that made it ok! It's horrible behaviour. Sadly, some people do behave horribly, given the opportunity.

NeedWineNow · 09/11/2020 08:51

I find it amazing that you can't get the police to respond for a burglary or some such, but if you dare have someone round for a cuppa they come down on you like a ton of bricks.

Evenstar · 09/11/2020 08:58

I know that @110APiccadilly sorry 💐 just shocking how unkind someone could be 😢

At the end of their statement, they tell people to watch out for car thefts.

Maybe there’s a lesson here. If you need the police to attend your burglary you make an anonymous phone call alleging that someone at your address was seen welcoming someone else in for a cup of tea and they’ll be with you in a flash 👍 Hmm

Just reading the very sad story about how the police shot this man over covid lockdown stuff, apparently he had an air rifle...I had seen this locally as in the area local to me but hadn;t realised the reasons for the shooting. Father of two

www.thetimes.co.uk/edition/news/police-investigated-over-fatal-shooting-in-swindon-hm28z8pn0

When police investigated a lockdown breach the guy got cross and started shooting an air rifle then they shot him Sad

Orangeblossom7777 · 09/11/2020 09:27

"In the early hours yesterday in Swindon, Wiltshire, a mechanic brandishing an air rifle after a row during illegal lockdown drinks was shot dead by the police. The man, a father of two named locally as Graham Trinder, 57, was killed in the street. Residents said that he had fetched a BB gun when a row broke out at a neighbour’s garden party.

One witness said that the police had told him three times to drop the weapon, which he used to shoot at cans in his backyard.

Wiltshire police referred itself to the Independent Office for Police Conduct, which confirmed that the matter was being investigated."
