Welcome into another thread of alternative reality as we try to nagivate through the Coronacoaster of life.

We may be up, down, spinning around (generally in confusion at the next random edict drawn up on the back of a fag packet) but never sucking the joy out of life.

The "if you're in Liverpool" thread just shows what a privileged and generally deluded place MN is. Barely anyone realises that people may not be able to pay bills if they have to isolate for 2 weeks.

bakingcupcakes · 06/11/2020 21:05

Apparently the virus could 'breeze in' through the open windows...or the door. He was completely serious. I don't think it's right we've terrified people like this.

There's no way on earth I'll be volunteering for any form of mass testing. I'd be fucked financially if it came back positive.

I hugged my friend outside her house today...after we'd finished our walk.

I honestly think it's abusive. It's so cruel.

MissEWeatherwax · 06/11/2020 21:31

That’s awful that some people are so scared. I would have a test if I can hug my DP’s. My DH said tonight he wouldn’t have the test, unless he had symptoms. One reason we wouldn’t be entitled to UC so wouldn’t get any payments.
I hope the man takes it off to sleep!
Were I live most people are in masks and keeping apart. I’m not worried about catching it passing somebody on the street or in Tesco.

SirSamuelVimes · 06/11/2020 21:36

I'm not worried about catching it, full stop.

I dealt with a customer the other week who has problems with his reading glasses steaming up. He was elderly and I said something like at least when he's reading at home they're OK. Apparently at home is the worst thing because he wears his mask in his flat too. All the time. Even though he lives alone and hasn't let anyone inside since March. I was slightly dumbfounded.
@SirSamuelVimes

I'll take the offer of virtual wine, @MissEWeatherwax, as I'm not allowed the real stuff. It's so wonderfully appropriate to your respective usernames that @NannyGythaOgg followed up your post as she did! She'll be offering me Scumble soon. It's only apples. Well, mostly apples....

I'm still laughing - I didn't quite realise when I posted how close to character we were.

Grapes - grapes are good, specially after they've been stored in sugar for a while

NannyGythaOgg · 06/11/2020 21:43

and having partaken of said grapes - I forgot to delete irrelevant bits of the previous post (although I totally agree that the scaremongering has got out of hand) AND to bold the quote I intended to.

@SirSamuelVimes
I'm not worried either.

65 and overweight but otherwise fit - with a healthy diet and a robust immune system (extra C, D and zinc). I wish I had caught it in the summer but would be happy to take my chances now

SirSamuelVimes · 06/11/2020 22:00

Pretty certain I had it in April. Zero infection control measures taken in the house after I started symptoms as small house + small kids just meant it wasn't feasible to isolate me. Dd(then 5) and asthmatic DH both fine & dandy, mini DD (then 18mo) a bit sad and mopey for a day or two. If no one told us what it was I don't think we'd have even thought twice about it.

justasking111 · 06/11/2020 22:29

I have just read the hospitality rules from the welsh government am attaching the short version 26 different measures to adhere to. We are gonna have to carry proof of identity, proof address, oh and could we please keep the doors, windows open, oh and run a one way system. I could cry.

justasking111 · 06/11/2020 22:31

The restaurants and pubs have to get this all up and running by Monday. They are nuts. They only released it tonight.

BogRollBOGOF · 06/11/2020 22:53

Isn't most of the logistical stuff things that should be in place already?
The major difference is potentially having ID (although being fresh of face, I keep my driving lisence on me... saying that, quite a few stray silver hairs have appeared in the last 6 months.)

To do with the Cold War Protect and Survive.

NannyGythaOgg · 06/11/2020 23:24

I love Kevin the Carrot. If I had a huge advertising budget I'd want the advertisers that have the Aldi contract

PickAChew · 07/11/2020 00:13

Hmm. I've always worried about catching something in our gargantuan tesco!

Wondering if a mask would muffle dh's snoring.

Also been partaking of the grape. A natty little French number I picked up in markses, this morning. Should get mybarse to bed but my nervous system is a bit wired about last Friday night's drama (neighbour's window smashed)

Justgivemewine · 07/11/2020 00:27

Welcome to all the new people seeking sanctuary in this little corner of sanity.

@SirSamuelVimes - I took about 2 weeks to adjust to citalopram but once I got through that initial bit I’ve found it really good. Hope it helps you too.

@TrustTheGeneGenie - I saw that post and had a good laugh.
Our school dementors are campaigning for outside masks too. Just no!

Ds2s school bubble has burst but at least he’s not freezing to death. Tbf school have been very good and organised at sorting work out.

It’s weird here. Sometimes you wouldn’t know we were in lockdown here. I drive ds1(Sen) to and from his specialist school sometimes at non school run hours so can’t blame that, and was really looking forward to the roads being quieter and having a good run. But no, the roads are as busy as ever, even busier today - so much that I ended up being late! I should be being early, not late ffs. There is no way everyone out today was on an essential journey.
Other times it’s clear things have changed as people are suddenly practically leaping into the road or bushes to avoid you on the pavement whereas previously that just barge past. Does the virus really mutate so quickly that on Wednesday it can’t jump 2 metres from one body to another, but on thursday it can.

I’m glad I didn’t block the corona board just yet otherwise I wouldnt have known that The Range is still open so I can venture out and replace ds3s duvet that fell apart in the washing machine yesterday. I calling a duvet for a 7yr old at this time of year as an essential purchase. I may or may not get distracted by non essential browsing on the way to the till.

I went out murdering earlier to buy some cider and chocolate (and non essential items like milk/bread etc) 😁the shop was absolutely packed with other murderers also buying similar essential items.

.

flower11 · 07/11/2020 06:46

Roads are busy our way. People are still working, friends dh is carrying on this time he does flooring. Our carpet fitters phoned and said they are still coming.
I felt people were giving me evil look as I stood at the bus stop yesterday. I get 2 buses to get to work last time my work had a line going across the computer to do your bit and avoid public transport how the heck did they think I was going to get to work, magic unicorn dust!

bakingcupcakes · 07/11/2020 07:27

Yesterday's non essential shopping for me was because I was unable to finish off Wednesday thanks to isolating DS. I didn't even bother adding 'essential' items to it. The woman at the checkout may have given me a filthy look but I couldn't really tell with the mask. Grin

Blobby10 · 07/11/2020 07:40

I’m allowed out in general circulation again today! I plan to visit the supermarket for shopping list - top of the list gin. Chocolate . Coffee. Milk 😂😂. Also need to find the post office to send DS1 some toothpaste- he’s on base in Iraq and the market has shut so he can’t get anything! First box returned yesterday (minus my obstetrics pack of Penguins - Royal Mail nicked them!) but with a label saying contents were illegal! Shower gel and shaving foam? X going to try again today - might send him a colouring book and crayons as he’s bored 😂😂😂

MaudesMum · 07/11/2020 08:06

Our district council has decreed that outdoor markets can take place, but only sell food and other "essential" items. So, I'll be belting off to mine today. They would prefer it everyone wore masks, which is a bit bonkers given that they're never crowded, and, er, outdoors. Sadly, that means my chance of recognising anyone and having a bit of harmless social interaction is pretty slim.

110APiccadilly · 07/11/2020 08:25

Surely not another ill thought out government scheme? www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2020/nov/06/operation-moonshot-covid-mass-testing-trial-begins-liverpool

Who'd have thunk it?

🤦‍♀️

110APiccadilly · 07/11/2020 08:38

Meanwhile Wales has the highest case rates in the UK. I know they said we wouldn't see the consequence of the firebreak yet, but we've had much harsher restrictions than England all the way through, so...?

Reedwarbler · 07/11/2020 08:43

My fil has now been moved to an assessment care home from hospital. His severe alzheimers and broken hip mean he is bed bound, but, he is on 2 weeks isolation anyway, despite having had a negative covid test on leaving hospital. My H took some clothes and stuff over. They asked if he wanted to look at his father through the window. He declined as he thought that might be more upsetting for him. It then transpired that my H can't even phone him either, because the signal on the homes' phones won't reach into his room. So, knowing that you can't even visit, the home has done nothing to ensure that isolated elderly patients can actually speak to their family. How difficult would it be to put a few extra phone points in? Yes, we can supply a mobile for him to use, but his alzheimers is so severe he is only capable of using any phone if it is handed to him with the caller already on the other end, and you can forget zoom as he certainly wouldn't understand that. He has already forgotten my name. He will now forget my H as well I expect. This government is beyond cruel. How can it be right to totally isolate a person (from their family) nearing the

end of their life? If he was capable of deciding, I am sure he would rather take the risk than be alone. As it is he is bed bound, has prostate cancer, severe arthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, glaucoma, a dodgy heart, a buggered knee and a broken hip. He is 93, virtually deaf and has no memory at all. How important is it to keep someone like this alive? Not very. To me though, it is important that their last days are happy, which they patently won't be.
