Jelly Tots - also ruined

First pack in about thirty years. The disappointment was crushing. The dome is too high and the jelly too hard.

I've only just come to terms with the fact that Cadbury's is off the table, and now this. I LOVED Jelly Tots and now they are nothing more than the droppings of a large Fruit Pastil. Gutted.

Oh no, I've not had them in years but they sound horrible. Do they still do Rowntrees Tootie Frooties ?

PickleSarnie · 03/11/2020 16:15

It went downhill when all the artificial colourings got removed. I'd eat a salad if I wanted natural damn it!!

AldiIsla · 03/11/2020 16:28

Tootie frooties are like hen's teeth.

I got very upset when I realised tooty frooties had changed. They're far too hard now and don't taste as fruity as they used to. I would only ever get them in the Rowntrees mix up sweet bags but they took them out! I was gutted.

wellthatsunusual · 03/11/2020 16:35

I never forgave them for discontinuing Tootie Minutes...

Sparklingbrook · 03/11/2020 16:35

DH is partial to a Sherbert Fountain but you don't even get soggy paper any more it's-plastic!

I bought my Dad a bar of Old Jamaica as he used to love it in the 80s and I happened to see it. He said there were more raisins than chocolate and no rum taste. Sad

BobbinThreadbare123 · 03/11/2020 16:39

If you can get hold of Irish or S African Cadbury's choc it's like the UK used to be. Often supermarket own sweets are better - Morrisons selection of proper sweeties is pretty good.

Sparklingbrook · 03/11/2020 16:42

Yes Wilkos Pick n Mix is great but not at the moment for obvious reasons. Grin They closed it last lockdown.

maggienolia · 03/11/2020 16:48

Lindt pick and mix are now at our local Sainsbury's. I have visions of emerging from the next lockdown looking like Mr Creosote.

PuppyMonkey · 03/11/2020 16:48

The lilac Tootie Frooties were my best.

Lemonlady22 · 03/11/2020 17:54

I just got a tube of jelly tots for my grandchildren, but I tested them out...definately disappointing, I even ate them all just in case it was a duff tube. Tootie frooties are in the mix bag with fruit pastilles and wine gums I think

SlightlyJaded · 03/11/2020 18:06

@Lemonlady22. Good job testing. It's the right thing to do.

The Jelly Tots of my youth had slightly different consistencies depending on colour. The blackcurrant was the squidgiest and most coveted. Now they are all the same texture and too big.

I remember when Wine Gums suddenly became harder than they used to be - that was annoying and the end of Wine Gums for me. I haven't tried Tootie Fruities for years, I will have to do this now but the Tootie Fruities I want are in a white bag with 'Mackintosh' rather than 'Rowntree' written across the top

Well this has just been the icing on the cake of 2020. FFS.

I want my confectionary to pull out my fillings and make my teeth feel fuzzy dammit.

H1978 · 03/11/2020 19:40

I was thinking the same today eating jelly tots. They definitely used to be more squidgy and each colour had its own distinctive taste. You could eat with your eyes closed now it wouldn’t make a difference because they all taste the same. Sad

I hate to be the bearer of bad news but Tootie Frooties are no longer in the mix bags. They're just not worth buying now.

fruit gums used to be little shiny jewels of flavour - now they're powdery floury rubbish

Tootie Fruities are also ruined and I agree jelly tots are shit these days.

I bought my Dad a bar of Old Jamaica as he used to love it in the 80s and I happened to see it. He said there were more raisins than chocolate and no rum taste.

You can still get the original flavour in Australia. Called "Old Gold Jamaica Rum'n Raisin". It's my husband's favourite.
