How much do you pay attention to / remember usernames?

Just that, really.

I definitely have a few names that I recognise when I see them, but not enough to remember how/in what context I've encountered them before.

I've noticed recently a few people namechecking other posters: "So-and-so will be along in a minute to say X" or "Such-and-such usually has a good idea of things like that".

There seem to be so many posters here, I'm amazed at how some people seem to keep track, not just of familiar names but of personalities, too.

Do you?

One user who I always remember is @bluntness100 only because what she says is usually correct and right on the money 😁

holyshitdude · 01/11/2020 14:39

I came on to say bluntness100, she usually talks sense

FelicityPike · 01/11/2020 14:40

Sometimes.

LethargicLumpOfLockdownLard · 01/11/2020 14:42

Only occasionally and usually if they were referred to or quoted. I just don't really read the username, only the actual posts. I try to remind myself to, but generally forget.

TroysMammy · 01/11/2020 14:46

I remember a few, mainly because they post regularly on the Litter Tray which I frequently visit.

I also remember the arsehole posters because they seem to have an agenda on certain subjects.

Sparklingbrook · 01/11/2020 14:47

I used to years ago but there's so much namechanging now I have no idea who is who or who used to be who now.I don't really take notice of usernames any more just what they post.

There used to be a poster who sort of patrolled Relationships who everyone seemed to want to hear from.

giantangryrooster · 01/11/2020 14:54

Rarely, sometimes when I've responded back and forth with a poster.
Those remembered are the ones who doesn't namechange and post a lot.
Therefore I recognize and think other posters are inclined to remember Grafista who writes loong posts, Anyfucker who writes short, not sweet and sweary, Attilathemeerkat who starts every post with the two same sentences and helps a lot. My personal favorite Shadenfreudepersonified doesn't always post so much, but has a killer sense of humor Smile.

All the rest of us are just mn-cattle Grin.

Meruem · 01/11/2020 14:55

I’ve name changed a few times as I will sometimes reveal personal things which could be outing if someone knows me. I assume many others do the same. There are some people I remember from earlier times on here that I don’t know if they stopped using MN or just changed names.

I’ve noticed that people do “listen” more to a better known name. I remember a while back I posted some advice on a thread, nothing was said but a couple of pages later a more “popular” poster than me said basically the same thing and this was then followed by several “listen to that poster, they are right on the money” etc and I did feel slightly miffed! Grin

BogRollBOGOF · 01/11/2020 14:56

Some do for no obvious reason. Sometimes you get attuned to a posting style or regular stance.

Mostly not though.

Haven't we all been there Grin.

LoseLooseLucy · 01/11/2020 14:59

I note the ones I find funny, kind, nasty and intelligent. You can usually tell who has written something by the style of their response before glancing at their name.

LoseLooseLucy · 01/11/2020 15:05

*By intelligent I meant they help with a particular subject. Saying intelligent has made me sound like an arse 🙄

BessMarvin · 01/11/2020 15:07

A few.

I almost always agree with FizzyGreenWater

There's a few I won't name who I recognise as usually being mean or always wanting to have a go at the op.

BadTattoosAndSmellLikeBooze · 01/11/2020 15:09

I know a few names. There’s definitely some posts I read and I know who has written them, often nasty and harsh ones. And then all their followers come on to say how amazing the post was. 🙄 It really wasn’t. It’s like they haven’t moved past the teenage years.

DramaAlpaca · 01/11/2020 15:18

Yes, I do. I recognise at least four or five names already on this thread. I spend far too much time on here!

Sparklingbrook · 01/11/2020 15:38

Hello @DramaAlpaca. Are we allowed to acknowledge each other? Grin October 2011 when all this was fields etc.

DramaAlpaca · 01/11/2020 16:32

Probably not @Sparklingbrook, but I do it anyway Wink Things have changed on here haven't they?

Pebbledashery · 01/11/2020 22:03

I quite like @bluethistles also. She comes across as very compassionate.

EmpressJKRowlingSpartacus · 01/11/2020 22:13

I recognise you, I came in about then too. Back in the days when mods would pop into a thread for tea & biscuits & there used to be regular raids on HQ in search of wine & pizzas.

bearlyactive · 01/11/2020 22:16

I recognise Sparklingbrook, not sure why though (sorry!!). I also recognise noblegiraffe and piggywaspushed from the education boards - I think! Also recognise AnyFucker and Aridane, although haven't seen the latter around for a while.

olivesonapizza · 01/11/2020 22:17

There are a few I remember, I don't think they're necessarily the "famous" ones either but just posters who stick out to me for some reason. I think it depends on which boards you frequent the most, I don't really go on the relationships or money boards but I would recognise someone from style and beauty or sleep 😴

ChaosTrulyReigns · 01/11/2020 22:20

I think it's harder now there's do many folk on here.

In the old fields days you'd recognise a lot of posters.

There's a couple of Lovelies I recognise already on this thread which is rather unusual these days.

Sparklingbrook · 01/11/2020 22:21

I did used to be on here A LOT, especially when I joined. Lately though I don't take things seriously enough for people. I had the summer off from it but nothing's changed-it's all very tense and serious still. Not sure what I can and can't say, lots of typing a post then deleting it and much thread hiding.

MoonSauce · 01/11/2020 22:44

I'm really, really funny about being identified. I've been here years but it's only fairly recently I've stuck to one username.

And I know it won't last forever but I am sick of starting over again with every name change.

I recognise other names, usually the usual feminism board names (it's a blocked board for me but people still venture into other topics) and I get inner-voice echolalia with a few names.

Difficultpiffcultlemondifficult (?) is one of those which sticks in my head being spoken, even when I'm not online.

I'm sure AnyFucker and I wouldn't get on, but they're the most famous and obvious name for me to remember because they're a bit of a legend on the boards.

But mostly it's people from feminism. I don't think they tend to change their names either often or at all.

CorianderLord · 01/11/2020 22:48

I don't remember loads, but WorraLiberty always sticks in my head. No idea why.
