Booked an EPC check for old house and a gas safety check. Trying to sort electric check. 90% of solicitor paperwork is done. It has been a thrilling few days.

sueelleker · 09/11/2020 13:19

@Squirrel26 I had to buy a hair band back in August; I hadn't had a haircut since February, and my half fringe kept flopping in my eyes!

TheBeeatAmbridge · 09/11/2020 13:52

Little blue car has passed its MOT without any advisories which is nice.
I'm going to tidy up the office this afternoon and go for a walk (but I can't really be bothered so I'm hoping it rains and I can stay in).

Sheusedtobesomeonelse · 09/11/2020 13:54

I am in a very out of sorts mood today and can't quite put my finger on it. Perhaps the remnants of this weekends migraine coupled with monday blues ? I'm usually optimistic and quite contented and feeling like this is weird..

I might go back to wearing a short sleeved tshirt when i run, it was 14° again at 5:30, it has taken me about 5 days to come up with this amazing thought.

I dreamt Adele died last night.

Meatballs & rice for dinner tonight.

Fontella · 09/11/2020 13:58

I am gagging for a cup of tea but we've run out of teabags, so I need to go to the shops. I want the cuppa so bad but I don't want to go to the effort of going out. So the past two hours have been me telling myself I need to go out and then not going.

Frownette · 09/11/2020 14:50

It's cold and drizzly here.

Having really hard time getting relative to self isolate until COVID test results are through.

I've tried the soft approach: "I can get anything you need, it's only 2 days" and the hard approach: "you don't want to infect anyone else, do you??"

SilkieRabbits · 09/11/2020 15:13

Just had a chicken korma and pilau rice and a muller corner yoghurt with strawberry and a glass of coke. That's the days sugar and fat intake covered Grin

Just put dress on to wash.

Squirrel26 · 09/11/2020 15:36

I’ve got so many hairbands (yet I can never find one). God knows why I had to dream about them too!

EggyPegg · 09/11/2020 16:02

My best friend and I were twinning on the school run today in plaid skirts and Joules dog jumpers.

When I glanced at this from the "threads I'm on" page I thought it said "I've got so many husbands". Grin

First day back at work (wfh) after a week of leave and it was as busy as you’d expect with the effect of the leave having worn off within 10 minutes of starting work today. Still, it was a nice to have had the time off.

forgetthehousework · 09/11/2020 17:13

Very exciting today - went and got petrol!
I think I'll make omelette for tea.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 09/11/2020 17:22

Just came home from work - I try to empty my desk in preparation of my sick leave, but they all come and want other stuff from me that is supposedly 'urgent'.

Tummelthecat · 09/11/2020 17:26

My jigsaw is nearly finished.

Spudlet · 09/11/2020 17:27

Slightly bricking it here as there’s been a positive Covid test at DS’s school... not in his class though. But still - eep. Dreading the possibility of having to self-isolate for 14 days with DS, ddog and DH - none of us do well without regular exercise 😬 Also I have no idea how we’ll get food in that instance, we have no family nearby to ask and delivery spots from the supermarket are booked up for weeks to come. The irrational part of me is terrified that we’ll end up without anything to eat, although the rational part knows that’s not going to happen. But I don’t deal well with uncertainty, and the thought of having to rely on an unknown third party to bring us our shopping is not going down well. Fingers crossed it won’t come to that though.

Anyway, I made DS’s advent calendar today. Quite pleased with it. Going to order another kit tomorrow so I can make one for my niece.

Frownette · 09/11/2020 17:29

@Prokupatuscrakedatus oh dear, they need to let you be if you need time off. I hate it when someone's in your face acting like it's the apocalypse and you think no, it really isn't.

I think we're having fish and chips for tea. This poses a dilemma as the chip portions are large so we'll split them but I like them doused in vinegar and other doesn't. I'll have a rootle around to see if there's a bottle of sarsons.

PersisFord · 09/11/2020 17:47

@Spudlet I felt exactly the same during first lockdown. It’s a very visceral fear isn’t it - not being able to feed your family. Sending you hugs x

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 09/11/2020 17:54

@spudlet
That is lovely. Mine are grown, so no calendars anymore.

@Frownette
They always act totally surprised when me or my collegue aren't there, though it is in the calendar. I will work from home until I can use my foot again.

Nydj · 09/11/2020 17:57

@Spudlet,I am told that there is an Amazon app for deliveries from Morrison’s within an hour. The cost is something like £3.99 or free for those with Amazon prime - I hope that helps to reassure you a little should there be a need to self isolate.

Spudlet · 09/11/2020 18:02

Thank you all - I will look for that, @Nydj. I am a chronic contingency planner, once I have a contingency plan I’m fine. I like to plan for the worst case scenario at all times! So knowing there’s an app is a big help. There is a village volunteer group (I’m one of them) that is there to collect prescriptions and food and things, but it’s not knowing whether someone will be able to help that’s the problem for me - having a backup plan is what I need.

afaloren · 09/11/2020 18:04

I found some maple glazed ribs in the reduced section and we are having them with baked potatoes and roasted broccoli for dinner 😋

HeatherAndSand · 09/11/2020 18:06

Pleased to report that my first foray into the unknown world of the slow cooker was a success yesterday. There wasn't a recipe booklet in the box and the website wasn't any immediate help, so I improvised. I put the small organic beef joint into the Crockpot bottom, surrounded it with washed new potatoes - larger ones cut in half - and washed organic carrots - topped and tailed and cut into thirds - poured on enough low salt beef stock from cubes to cover it, and added a couple of sprigs of rosemary from the garden. The rosemary is looking very sparse from overuse, so I probably need to plant some more. Lid on and cooked on high - because we wanted to eat before midnight! - for about 4 hours. I then warmed some chilled Yorkshire puddings inside on top of the hot food - with apologies to my late mother who would have been turning in her grave at readymade Yorkshire puddings - and hey presto.

We all agreed it was delicious, with the beef so tender it was falling apart, and the carrots and potatoes very flavoursome. The only thing was, it wasn't really a roast - I couldn't have sliced the beef - so I still need to find out how to do that. Low rather than high heat, shorter time, less liquid? Perhaps I need a slow cooker recipe book.

One DC thought it was a Sloth Cooker, which is quite apt, and so that is what it will be called here forevermore.

It was good to be able to get on with other jobs - school uniform washing, a bath for a DC, the washing up and so on - with the hope of a good meal at the end and cooking aromas drifting around.

We had it with English sparkling wine I had actually bought as a Christmas gift, oops - as good as any champagne! - to celebrate the election result.

We are looking forward to pets returning to the White House. I hear the Bidens have two German Shepherds - Champ and Major. The Donald had no pets, quelle surprise.

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 09/11/2020 18:08

I've been trying to increase my vegetable and fibre intake. I've learned two things. Firstly, waldorf salad tastes much better if you make it yourself and eat it immediately than if you buy it from the deli. Secondly, a lot of celery will inevitably lead to a lot of wind.

Frownette · 09/11/2020 18:18

@Prokupatuscrakedatus rest that foot :)

We had salmon, crushed potatoes and carrots and sprouts in the end.

Champagneforeveryone · 09/11/2020 18:23

spudlet we are sporadic users of the Gousto recipe boxes, but have ordered weekly with a vengeance for the last couple of months. My theory is that even if we have to self isolate, while they may be expensive I can at least order two boxes a week which will provide us with 8 meals.

Usually I'm very chilled out about stuff, but I found that once I had arranged this I had been fretting about food in the back of my mind and I had no idea Grin
