What the hell do I do with all this cake!

So, I ordered a cake for my DS's birthday and my god it's huge. They told me it fed 18. There's four of us in the house and I knew I could palm off some to at least 8 school friends..as a family we had some yesterday and then I've cut another 12 slices for today to hand out to friends and have ourselves... there's still half of the bastarding thing left.

Now don't get me wrong, I like a challenge but I can't face the idea of eating cake every day for a week and would never allow the kids to have birthday cake 7 days in a row.

What can I do? It's going to have to go in the bin isn't it? Could I potentially post some to family who are too far away to visit? Seems such a waste!

Freeze it! Cake for weeks! Grin

Matildatoldsuchdreadfullies · 31/10/2020 09:23

I’d just give the children cake for tea or pudding. Isn’t it normal to have left over cake which gets eaten up over the week? I really don’t see the problem.

LongPauseNoAnswer · 31/10/2020 09:24

It’s magic cake. It will probably never run out! Grin

Nothing wrong with cake for breakfast IMO.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 31/10/2020 09:26

Let them eat cake. A piece of birthday cake every day for a week is fine.

ShirleyPhallus · 31/10/2020 09:27

Hang on, something fishy here. Cakes always say “feeds 8” and they’re about the size of an envelope. So it’s a total lie.

But you’re telling us it feeds 18 and you’ve already had 16-20 slices and there’s still half left.

Oh god. How big are these slices? Is this that competitive Mumsnet undereating? Will you reveal yourself to have cut wafer thin slices and it be the only thing you can eat the whole week as you’re just soooo full from all the cake?!

alliwanttodoiseatcarbs · 31/10/2020 09:28

Why no birthday cake seven days in a row? This would never be an issue in our house. Cake for lunch, cake for dessert, cake with a wine.

alliwanttodoiseatcarbs · 31/10/2020 09:29

Oh god. How big are these slices?

That's what I was thinking! Cut bigger slices op!

DontGoIntoTheLongGrass · 31/10/2020 09:30

Agree with above pp. It says feeds 18 but you can probably see through the pieces then! Freeze if needs be (or eat for breakfast, lunch and dinner for the week Grin).

justanotherneighinparadise · 31/10/2020 09:30

Cake freezes really well.

ThorFull · 31/10/2020 09:31

Show us a picture of the slices you’re cutting.

Quarantiming · 31/10/2020 09:31

would never allow the kids to have birthday cake 7 days in a row.

That's the whole point of a birthday cake. Normal cake and dessert rules don't apply. Eat it (with custard if it gets a bit stale Grin )

FedUpWithItAllWeep · 31/10/2020 09:37

Picture attached....I think it's a normal sized piece...now questioning myself 🤣

Those are more of a slither than a slice IMO Grin

YouFellAsleep · 31/10/2020 09:41

Life is too bloody short to worry about cake, let them eat it Smile

SaskiaRembrandt · 31/10/2020 09:42

No, those don't meet the specifications for slices. You need to make them thicker.

Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 31/10/2020 09:42

No, because giving them a piece of cake once a day for a week would be akin to giving them poison 🙄.
Your slices of cake must be tiny.

RunFromMyScytheAndMyMerkin · 31/10/2020 09:43

Yeah, that’s not a normal sized piece

Cut into triangle cake shapes

BreathlessCommotion · 31/10/2020 09:43

That's the size of slice you cut yourself when you are walking past the cake and convince yourself it isn't a real slice.

SpeedofaSloth · 31/10/2020 09:44

That's not a normal sized cake portion.

Alternista · 31/10/2020 09:45

Hilarious.
Cut bigger slices.
Freeze the leftovers.
Problem solved.

ProfessorInkling · 31/10/2020 09:46

My daughters birthday cake claimed to serve 18, I think we ended up with maybe 10 slices. You’re doing cake wrong 🍰

ProfessorInkling · 31/10/2020 09:46

@BreathlessCommotion

That's the size of slice you cut yourself when you are walking past the cake and convince yourself it isn't a real slice.
😂
TroysMammy · 31/10/2020 09:47

Serve it with custard.

ChronicallyCurious · 31/10/2020 09:48

That’s the size of a cake slice I’d give to someone who asks for a piece when I really don’t want to share 😂
