Good. His arrogance and refusal to apologise (ever, for anything) has come back to bite him.

I hope they get rid. Anti semitism means I can’t vote Labour, and I’m furious I don’t have a good set of options - competition improves everyone’s performance and keeps everyone moderate. Many think this is too little, too late. All those who participated or allowed this to happen must be kicked out.

CrimsonCattery · 29/10/2020 15:37

Corbyn is full of excuses and blaming others as ever. He only got suspended after his statement where he denied all responsibility. I had time for him at the start but he quickly showed himself to be utterly ineffective and divisive.

Its all very well for him to point to reasons why he was screwed over in the two elections he lost. He may be right about some of them. However he still lost to the most incompetent bunch of fuckwits the Tory party has managed to dredge up in a generation. He is the reason we have these twats in 'charge' of Brexit and the pandemic, utterly fucking this country over.

I hope he fucks off and stays fucked off.

abcdeeebygum · 29/10/2020 15:45

And if JC does set up his own party he will have a million members by Christmas

Great! A million members of an unelectable new party all talking to themselves- sounds fine to me. Means Labour will be the one sensible party.

Kier Starmer has shown more leadership than I've seen in English politics for years.

Kier Starmer has shown more leadership than I've seen in English politics for years. Apparently not according to the Guardian Hmm

Maireas · 29/10/2020 15:51

Quelle Surprise!

noblegiraffe · 29/10/2020 15:56

Hahah from that Guardian article “The ones who deny that antisemitism was anything other than a trivial issue at best, and defend expelled Labour figures such as Chris Williamson, have become increasingly marginalised. ”

Er, that describes Corbyn.

ginandbearit · 29/10/2020 16:10

Good ...perhaps he and the Momentum stooges will have the courage of their convictions and set up.their own Backto74 party and spend their time and energy ripping each other apart in ever demented factions and splits ...they never wanted real electoral power , far to terrifying to be actually responsible for anything n

Silvergreen · 29/10/2020 16:14
@Silvergreen I do hope the Conservative party addresses prejudices in the way the Labour Party now has. One type of discrimination does not excuse another.
Yes, I agree. No excuses.

KnightsofColumbusThatHurt · 29/10/2020 16:17

Labour have been totally out of touch with the public ever since they elected fucking Ed Milliband rather than David as leader.

This feels like the first time in a long time that they might actually be tuning back in to the electorate. I really hope that it continues.

Witchend · 29/10/2020 16:22

@Devilesko
I agree. The way the Romany and traveller community is approached by all governments is an absolute disgrace.
Sorry you have been on the receiving end of that. Flowers

glomerulus · 29/10/2020 16:23

Great news.

And wrt the whataboutery with the Tories on the thread, surely this is still good news? An opposition that is showing clear leadership in rooting out racism and antisemitism will be in a better position to hold the government to account for it's own shitty behaviour, won't it?

Devilesko · 29/10/2020 16:25

Hope Tony Perkins goes with him, another bloody racist.

SebastianTheCrab · 29/10/2020 16:29
@Silvergreen I do hope the Conservative party addresses prejudices in the way the Labour Party now has. One type of discrimination does not excuse another.
The Labour Party have so far done fuck all to address antisemitism.

They did not cooperate with the ECHR investigation - they were dragged kicking and screaming into it.

They are the second party ever to have been investigated after the BNP.

The report today was issued by the ECHR and is damming. Labour now have to put together a plan to tackle anti semitism in the party and submit it for the ECHR's approval.

They then have to stick to it.

If they do that then maybe we can talk about how they have addressed it.

Maireas · 29/10/2020 16:33

I agree, SebastianTheCrab - the details are absolutely shocking, and I was horrified by the Panorama programme.

UniversalAunt · 29/10/2020 16:45

‘ What about Shami Chakrabarti who got a peerage following her report into anti-semitism in the Labour Party? Her position is now surely compromised?’

Interesting...

Devilesko · 29/10/2020 16:47

Witchend

Did you hear about Priti Patel and her racist comments towards travellers at the Board of Deputies of British Jews, it's horrendous.
The Jewish board contacted travelling organisations and reported her racism.
They are all at it, whether Cons or labour, not sure about the other parties as tend not to hear much from them.
Have to publicly thank the above mentioned Board of Deputies of British Jews for their support. Thanks

Maireas · 29/10/2020 16:51

Very encouraging that the Board of Deputies was supportive - divided we fall.

thetrees · 29/10/2020 16:53

Good riddance. Loathsome man, dissembled over Brexit and handed Johnson a majority

doublehalo · 29/10/2020 17:02

Since he's unapologetic they should rescind his party membership. Then he'll know how all the Labour GC women felt.

QuentinWinters · 29/10/2020 17:04

Keir Starmer may be smug now but watch when the tabloids rake up his involvement in not bringing charges against celebrity paedophiles and he will be destroyed.

Are you talking about Savile, when Starmer was director of Public prosecutions? There's a summary of his involvement here
fullfact.org/online/keir-starmer-prosecute-jimmy-savile/
Clue: its not what you said it was.

Starmer also did really great work in improving how the CPS prosecuted rapes. His track record there is good.

I've never voted Labour but I'll vote for him because 1) I think he wants to make life better for most people and 2) he's a track record of actually leading things and making changes rather than just talking.

Don't like smear campaigns like the Savile thing, personally

Bluntness100 · 29/10/2020 17:04

I can’t believe some folks are still supporting him. The man all but wiped out the Labour Party, and now this.

And the report states they basically under played it and hid it, and the first thing Corbyn says is it’s all over stated. How thick would you have to be. All he had to say was he thanked the commission for their hard work and he was going to look at it in more detail and continue to support this being stamped out. Saying it’s over stated is admitting there is an issue, just you disagree on how bad it is.

If momentum breaks away and forms it’s own party it would be best for labour. The issue is they are like a parasite who can’t survive without their host.

LampLighterInn · 29/10/2020 17:06

As a member of the Jewish community I am sick to death of that pestilence Miriam Margolyes being rolled out as a spokesperson for whether or not Corbyn is antisemitic. She doesn't speak for all of us, she claims to be proud of her Jewishness yet throws us all to the dogs when she denies the right of the State of Israel to exist. This is a form of antisemitism and is a definition of the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA) of what exactly constitutes antisemitism, the same definition that Corbyn rejected and refused to accept.

These accusations against Corbyn didn't happen all at once, he allowed years and years of antisemitic MP's and their comments to slip through for years before it was finally taken seriously. Anyone can research and find the many instances he repeatedly associated with, sympathised with and engaged in antisemitism - remember him laying wreaths on the graves of the terrorists who murdered the Israeli Olympic team in Munich? The notorious mural? Describing Hamas and Hezbollah as 'friends'? He even wrote a foreword in a book which claims we control banks and the press! This is vintage antisemitism, along with the so-called blood libel and matches the conspiracies his mamza of a brother, Piers, a Holocaust denier.

He has commented that the charges of antisemitism were exaggerated in the same way that Piers Corbyn has stated the 6 million lost in the Shoah was overstated.

Do me a favour and stop wheeling out self-hating Jews to add weight to this topic. Corbyn has a history of being a terrorist sympathiser and an antisemite and he got found out and suspended.

This was the best bit of news since Captain Tom Moore received his knighthood.

vinoandbrie · 29/10/2020 17:08

Great news. Awful man.

nosswith · 29/10/2020 17:20

Let the Labour Party process take its course. There are racists in the Tory party and elsewhere but two wrongs don't make a right.

Blackberrycream · 29/10/2020 17:43

I actually feel great relief that people turned away from the party under his leadership and that with this report and Starmer’s actions the tide seems to be turning. I find his defenders chilling in their willingness to talk over and minimise the voices of people speaking out about their own direct experience within the party. Many people were very worried about the prospect of his leadership.
