Which horror films really creeped you out?

I'm really into horror films but the ones that really put me on edge were war of the worlds, mama and wolf creek.

They made me shiver and get the nervous sweats.

Which ones affected you?

Sorry to resurrect a thread that’s almost a zombie - but it’s in keeping with the subject matter after all.

I’m always on the lookout for the scary fils too OP and there are some corkers above. I recommend watching “Whistle and I’ll come to you”....it’s old, black and white and before the times of CGI - and my word it’s so very creepy. It really is amazing how sinister they make a flapping sheet (although in my mind the hero deserves what he gets...if you find a creepy old whistle labelled “Whistle and I’ll come to you” in an old cemetery, don’t blow it fgs, that’s just asking for trouble!)

@Themadcatparade

Recently - Hereditary was absolutely horrible and quite scary for someone who doesn’t find horror films scary!

Also Midsommar - very artsy and different to something I’ve watched before but very very very unsettling throughout. Not to watch on a first date Grin

Yes and yes.

I've been watching horror films since I was little, and nothing ever normally bothers me, but these two really unsettled me. Great films though!

cushioncovers · 15/11/2020 15:06

It Follows
Insidious

Closingtime94 · 15/11/2020 15:09

The grudge Sad

PowerhouseOfTheCell · 15/11/2020 15:18

The woman in black 1&2! I just hate jump scares, they morning after I watched the 2nd one I made my mum wait outside the bathroom whilst I had a shower to be on lookout for aforementioned woman in black so she could fight her off for me Blush (disclaimer: I had a raging temperature due to chest infection so obviously wasn't thinking that clearly)

ZoeTurtle · 15/11/2020 15:32

Wolf Creek is the only one that's ever really disturbed me. The villain is incredibly well acted.

Calicomog · 15/11/2020 15:37

I can usually watch anything, having been brought up on Nightmare on Elm street, The Exorcist etc at sleepovers in my cousins.
I’ve watched most of the films mentioned here and have often boasted nothing could shit me up... until The Grudge, the grudge thing coming up from under the covers. I had to turn it off, and didn’t sleep with a cover for weeks Grin

Heatherjayne1972 · 15/11/2020 16:10

It’s the ones which potentially could be real that scare me.

There was one where two people check into a motel in the middle nowhere and like others before them become victims of the killer owner
That scared me

Things like ghosts and vampires don’t because you know it’s just a silly story

Meruem · 15/11/2020 16:12

The hostel films freak me out because I imagine it’s something that’s already happening. While that seems far fetched, there are some sick people in the world and some of them probably have the money to do whatever awful thing it is they want to do. Plus so many people go missing, some of them must meet bad ends. I don’t like to think about it too much.

FortunesFavour · 15/11/2020 20:22

Agree with It Follows...it’s the most imaginative horror of the past 5 years imo. Also the original paranormal activity really frightened me, and I’m hard as nails around horror films.
I like the spooks and zombies though, not keen on the slashers such as Saw. It’s weird - I can watch zombies eating people’s faces off without a blink, but the minute it’s human on human gore I hate it. At least I can be relied upon to kick ass should the Z virus follow on the heels of Covid!

EsmeShelby · 15/11/2020 20:29

Skeleton Key with Kate Hudson really stayed with me.

KittCat · 15/11/2020 20:34

Sinister
Ghost stories
Insidious

ScaredNeedHelp · 15/11/2020 20:34

@DeadButDelicious

The Blair Witch Project scared the shit out of me. Put me off camping for life it did.

But the one that's really stuck with me is Ghostwatch. Not technically a film I suppose but it scared 10 year old me witless. Pipes and his cats can duck right off.

Oh hell I remember watching ghost watch. I hate horrors and creepy shows but that was something else as a child ☹. Not cool!
Roo1000 · 15/11/2020 20:37

Remember watching My Little Eye which totally freaked me out...it was the start of the Saw/Hostel type movies that I don’t class as horror but just sick sick movies that are full of unnecessary gore and nastiness. 🙈

AlaskaThunderfuckHiiiiiiiii · 15/11/2020 21:25

Agree with hereditary it just played on my mind for a while after!

Sinister - it’s the music in the little movies I can’t stand and sets me on edge, especially the one in the car

And Eden lake - as a poster mentioned above it could be true to life with a gang of thug kids intimidating a couple. Don’t want to spoiler for those that haven’t seen but it horrified me for ages

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 15/11/2020 21:33

YY To Eden Lake.

I saw Event Horizon at the cinema. I had no idea what it was going to be about, I thought it was a regular Sci Fi. I was actually crying at one point because it was so relentlessly horrifying. Funnily enough, years later DH and I were talking about it and it turns out he’d been similarly distressed by it, so we decided to revisit and see if it was still as scary a second time. It definitely wasn’t! Very OTT and schlocky when you know what’s coming, but still, impressive that it has such an effect on me the first time around.

Otherwise, Threads. Always Threads. I have no words for how disturbing that film is.

Burnthurst187 · 15/11/2020 21:45

Wolf Creek is roughly based on a true story. Two Brits who were attacked, one never found to this day

pinkkoala · 15/11/2020 22:51

For me it was jeepers creepers that made me jump, that thing woul just appear and whisk someone away.

lottielimejuice · 15/11/2020 23:16

I could never watch the hostel films or wolf creek. Just reading the plot lines of them really worries me. Film I found v disturbing and been mentioned already was “creep” really disturbing

CarnageAtTheGardenCentre · 15/11/2020 23:44

@CountessFrog

The Omen!
Yep, The Omen one two and three. All three of them. The children of the corn.......
justleavemebe · 15/11/2020 23:44

The descent
Creep (the one about the long lion underground)
The hills have eyes
Wrong turn
I spit on your grave
Hostile
Woman in black

SpillingTheTea · 15/11/2020 23:50

Jeepers Creepers for me too.
Creep
Halloween
The ring or any film with a bitch with a white gown and dark long hair.

SpillingTheTea · 15/11/2020 23:53

I can do horrors that don't make you jump and you just know when it's coming but the films where it sneaks up on you and scream your head off, just me? I can't do those ones.
