France rumoured to go back into nation lockdown from midnight tomorrow

Just that really. 😢

We live in France and I fear for our business. We live very rurally with only 2 deaths during the whole situation. Local equivalent of BBC news are reporting it is what will be announced by president Macron tomorrow.

Oh gosh I really feel for you. Do you really think it will go that far or do you have restrictions that could be tighter? I'm in Wales and we are 4 days in to a 17 day lockdown. It is guaranteed that it will be 17 days too.

Greysparkles · 27/10/2020 21:49

Frances figure are pretty dire. The rate its escalating is rapid.

GirlCrush · 27/10/2020 21:52

what does a full lockdown look like for France? is it similar to UK or more organised?

doubleshotespresso · 27/10/2020 21:58

I am so sorry OP, we have a few friends in different regions of France and yes all we are hearing back is sounding really very bleak...
But numbers are increasing so fast I suppose there's no real alternative at this stage? I hope they extend the help available -I know it's so tough out there..... hugs from here. x

Shizzlestix · 27/10/2020 22:00

Sorry to be selfish, but does that mean that the U.K. will shortly follow like last time?

Birdladybird · 27/10/2020 22:03

@girlcrush The last lockdown was complete. We could only leave for shopping and only one person allowed. Had to have an attestation printed and signed if we left the house. Even walking the dog, could only go a certain distance. My kids didn’t leave our garden for 3 months! We are in the hospitality trade and are super worried. We are quite busy in November Sad so DH has his finger hovering on the ‘cancel order’ button with our suppliers Sad

Oh dear. Not good.

Do you think this could be in part to quell social unrest, too? Or is the rise in infection rates compelling enough to warrant such a step?

Coffeecak3 · 27/10/2020 22:06

The hospitals in Bordeaux and Angouleme are having to take patients from the big cities.

NomadNoMore · 27/10/2020 22:07

I'm in France too, less than ten cases for 100,000 people, no deaths, in my area. The 9pm curfew and bar closures feel like rather an overreaction here, but I suppose it's better than not reacting at all.

I heard Macron is speaking tomorrow but hadn't heard any rumours.

NomadNoMore · 27/10/2020 22:18

Damn, just seen it reported on FranceInfo, they reckon it will be for four weeks.

Birdladybird · 27/10/2020 22:33

@NomadNoMore Sad my kids are ecstatic at the thought of no school, not sure how we will cope with no work.

NomadNoMore · 27/10/2020 22:38

Fingers crossed @Birdladybird , I don't work but I've got an urgent hospital appointment... I hope they don't cancel.

usuallydormant · 27/10/2020 22:40

According to BFMTV they will keep the schools open, primary anyway and probably college, curfew from 7pm starting Thursday to avoid people heading off for a last minute weekend.

Birdladybird · 27/10/2020 22:49

@usuallydormant my DDs are at a private college and they Will close, they always do, don’t need much excuse. Even with a 7pm curfew we are screwed, most of our business is 7pm and after. Fingers crossed it’s not going to be so bad.

@NomadNoMore I hope you get to your appointment Flowers

LaChatte · 27/10/2020 22:54

Probable lockdown from Saturday, not for schools or collèges (lycees not clear yet).

usuallydormant · 27/10/2020 22:54

Sorry to hear that Birdlady, it has been so tough for hospitality. I'm in a winter tourist region and there are fears that there won't be a season... I have a kid in private too but they tend to work through strikes and were really great with the online learning so I'm hoping they would open - my kids hated being off last time.

MountainDweller · 27/10/2020 23:37

Sorry Birdladybird sounds like you are in such a difficult position. I'm in France too, have heard the rumours. Fingers crossed it won't be as wholesale as the previous lockdown. We're in a border region so desperately hoping the borders won't close again.

It seems odd that they have gone to the trouble of imposing a curfew and haven't really waited for it to take effect. (I realised today that I broke the curfew twice at the weekend when I went to feed the neighbour's rabbits before bed. No public roads were trodden though and I certainly didn't see anyone so no real harm was done!)

FrencheFancie · 27/10/2020 23:57

I’m also in France, OP.

It all looks pretty grim, I have to say. I’m a teacher in collège and lycée, I’ve got my fingers and toes crossed we get to stay open.

SunscreenCentral · 28/10/2020 02:05

I was talking with my friend who lives in Indre et Loire dept., he said that the bars closed (couvre feu) but bars that served food stayed open til 9pm so everyone just went to those places.
Reading the papers and French social media it’s impossible to think the hospitals could cope with those sorts of numbers and it keeps rolling on...

NotQuiteFrance · 28/10/2020 06:03

Why Frenchie? Surely a lockdown but schools open defeat the object?
We're in the same situation, they're announcing today. Our area is rising 50 a day per 100,000 population. IL's area 160+ and the hospitals are full.
They say the last thing they want to do is shut the schools, but it's spreading through them and they're not ruling out primary kids having to wear masks. I'd much rather they closed or did half classes for a while.

JacobReesMogadishu · 28/10/2020 06:22

The figures in France and also Spain look worrying, I’m concerned we’re going to head down the same path.

InvincibleInvisibility · 28/10/2020 06:29

Ive read lots of different possibilities.

Curfew at 5pm or 7pm (they said the 9pm one still meant everyone went to the bars at 6pm after work).

Lockdown during weekends only.

Keeping primaries open but masks from age 6, whilst closing colleges, lycees and universities.

My kids are in primary in Paris and there has not been a single class closed so far. Parents are sensible and keep kids at home if symptoms.

brittanyfairies · 28/10/2020 06:47

I'm in France in an area that doesn't even have a curfew. We went from being a red zone in the summer with all the tourists to very few cases.

My kids are in lycee, I hope it doesn't close. My house is so isolated the kids didn't see anyone from March to September they've only just started getting back to normal.

KoalasandRabbits · 28/10/2020 06:58

Hope things work out for you, the economic impact is so severe. We live rurally in the UK - cases are very low - husband is French with all his family in France.

InvincibleInvisibility · 28/10/2020 07:03

I hated trying to homeschool and WFH.

My mental health since September has been declining fast and I think its anxiety over schools closing again/the economy and DH's job which is at risk/family members who are vulnerable getting covid and dying. And my outlet (swimming) has closed. And of course we can't visit family in the UK as usual.

I also feel that any restrictions implemented now won't be lifted until the end of winter...

I'm now on antidepressants and anti anxiety tablets.

I've spoken about it to my manager and she's sympathetic but the thing is 90% of people I chat to at work are all feeling the same. Almost everyone is depressed and tense and anxious. Many are on antidepressants. But Drs arent signing people off work with stress.
