... do you have a whole can or just half?

I've just noticed that a serving is half a can - Surely that isn't enough? I've been over indulging in soup for years!

A whole tin. What type of bowls do people have that they can't get a whole tin in? I always have a slice of buttered bread too so clearly I'm very gluttonous!

Mrsjayy · 26/10/2020 12:42

I can fit a whole tin of soup in my bowls,

InTheShadowOfTheMushroomCloud · 26/10/2020 12:42

What about baked beans ?

DH is a skinny rake yet eats like a man twice his size. Half a can on 4 slices of toast with cheese on top would not cut it. He would be raiding the cheese and biscuits an hour later.
I can hardly eat half a can with one slice of toast and I am the size of a small bungalow.

We always end up having one big tin and a little tin....

TheQueef · 26/10/2020 12:43

Whole can?
WHOLE can?
You glutton.
I only lick the lid and I'm full Halo

I love the extra big cans of big soup. Soup is fine but it looks substantial.
I need to feed my eyes as well, half a can pfft.

SoupDragon · 26/10/2020 12:43

Baked beans - I'm a half a can on 2 slices of toast person. Adult DS1 has a whole can. With a meal, one can does 3 of us.

I buy little tins of beans im the only one in the house that likes them.

RJnomore1 · 26/10/2020 12:44

A whole tin of soup fits in a reasonable size mug never mind a bowl!

And yes it’s tin, a can js a drink E.g. beer/coke.

frustrationcentral · 26/10/2020 12:45

Fancy soup now!

I'd usually share a can with DH with some crusty bread. DS1 (16) eats like a horse and could easily manage a whole tin and a whole loaf of bread but I'd feel sick by the end of the bowl

JollyGiraffe12 · 26/10/2020 12:45

Whole can!

Elizaaa · 26/10/2020 12:46

The recommended serving size is half a can so they can put lower calorie/salt figures on the front.

Half a tin isn't fit for anyone other than a toddler.

I have a whole tin AND TOAST, because I'm an adult - and don't go in for competitive under eating shite.

My mum always added half a can/tin of milk to Heinz tomato soup, presumably to make it go further. The first time I had undiluted soup I thought it was horrible.

TL;DR A can of tomato soup will feed 3.

LivingDeadGirlUK · 26/10/2020 12:46

I always have a full can and bread and butter but having just put that into my calorie counter app it is a lot of calories and salt. I'm always full till dinner though!

Horsemad · 26/10/2020 12:46

Quite a lot of salt in a tin of soup, so that's probably why a half a tin serving is suggested.

safariboot · 26/10/2020 12:47

I always took a standard serving as half a can, eaten with a couple of slices of bread or a roll of course. It's still a pretty light lunch.

If it's just me eating it I'll have the whole tin but that's just because it's not worth the trouble of decanting half into a fridge container.

Mrsjayy · 26/10/2020 12:48

My dad used to add milk to cream of chicken i think it was so it would go further wasn't it ?

TheQueef · 26/10/2020 12:48

Oh Soupy my chicken is legion!

Tomato soup with four slices of bread and dairylea is one of my faves. I rinse the tin with extra cream too.
hence me being a unit

BiggerBoat1 · 26/10/2020 12:48

Half a tin of beans is the correct serving in my opinion. On nice buttery toast.
I can easily eat one of the big tins of Heinz Bolognese. Food of the gods.

DustyMaiden · 26/10/2020 12:49

A can? Who eats canned soup. I make my own soup from home grown organic vegetables. I serve it in thimbles.

BertieBotts · 26/10/2020 12:50

I always used to have half a can when I lived at home but then when I started taking canned soup to work for my lunch I'd just eat all of it because where would you put it otherwise, and also, it's not enough to eat half! Always seemed fine.

My mum eats like a sparrow so probably has half :o my calibration of what a decent portion is is totally messed up!

BiggerBoat1 · 26/10/2020 12:50

I accidentally bought beans and sausages the other week I scoffed the lot and wished I had bought a big tin.

BertieBotts · 26/10/2020 12:51

You add milk to condensed soups, usually, not ordinary ones.

EmpressSuiko · 26/10/2020 12:51

A whole can and plenty of buttered bread! 😋
