(Socially distanced of course and in strictest obedience of all localised lockdowns and 3 or 5 tiers and whatever illogic the powers that be can dream up next)

Thanks for all the good wishes. DM was brought back home today by ambulance. Shes been given some medication and she said they are doing a letter, I assume for the GP. She was full of praise for the paramedics and the doctors so we will see how it goes. There are wonderful people who work in the NHS and it sounds like she met them.

Taswama · 26/10/2020 16:01

Autistic dc here (and autistic DF, DB, DN x2). 90% of my closest friends have autistic dc too. I met one of them at a support group but all the others I met through work, yoga, my commute and the ones I've stayed in touch with and I see regularly are the ones who get it.

MercyBooth · 26/10/2020 16:02

Doctors say that due to the intersection of my various disabilities plus a heart condition, I should not wear a mask because it would be bad for my health

I wish some of these doctors would speak out publicly.

TheSmallClangerWhistlesAgain · 26/10/2020 16:22

Doctors and other medics I have met socially have had a range of views about the subject.

One local to me has told me that there is virtually no virus in my area and not to worry. However, an old friend who is a nurse is one of the biggest dementors going and I've had to snooze her on FB. There really is no consensus.

justasking111 · 26/10/2020 16:25

Friend at 34 caught a virus her heart works at 25% efficiency on a good day now. She is mask exempt for good reason. She looks the picture of health but struggles with walking any distance. You cannot judge a book by its cover which is why I never ask myself why when people are none mask wearers.

Bollss · 26/10/2020 16:33

i think a lot of doctors are probably fed up and think this is a big over reaction, but have been told by their trusts to either agree with the government or say nowt publicly. Not a doctor obv but thats certainly how i feel - couldnt put owt on FB what i really think for example because we aren't allowed to say anything that might make the trust look bad (generally not just covid)

a lot of drs will tell you face to face what they think but i dont think for a min they'd go public with their thoughts!

Though we are a MH trust so i wish some of them would!

MercyBooth · 26/10/2020 16:34

Totally understand that @TrustTheGeneGenie

HitchikersGuide · 26/10/2020 16:57

The mask obsession and aggression in particular are so depressing. In different times, if I weren't hanging on to sanity by my fingernails, it would be fascinating to study how govt has managed such high levels of compliance by instilling fear whilst making people believe that they are 'following the science' - which isn't even a meaningful sentence, never mind something that a government should actually unquestioningly do. I find it terrifying how like Animal Farm it all is. It is patently obvious that masks are one of the least effective 'weapons' and yet, gosh, it really seems as if people think that they are utterly vital.
I wonder how those people screaming about non-mask-wearers can cope with the actual data on the ground - ie the fact that masks clearly make very little difference in real life (as opposed to the slightly larger difference they make in lab tests).
Why are people so obsessed with them? Whilst literally not giving a toss about anything Non-Covid. Really really weird.

HitchikersGuide · 26/10/2020 16:59

Tho, whilst I know it's 'safe' here, I should just add that I comply at all times with mask wearing!

Orangeblossom7777 · 26/10/2020 17:00

I think that with some people, they are obsessed with them because it helps them feel safe. (even though not proven to help so much and countries do not seem to be helped very much by them overall). It maybe gives them a sense of control and safety.

MercyBooth · 26/10/2020 17:04

DominaShantotto · 26/10/2020 17:09

Fuck you world. Just fuck you.

And fuck you you spikey headed twat of a fucking virus.

HitchikersGuide · 26/10/2020 17:11

Actually if some of the horrible mask people would just say 'I'm scared, and people not wearing masks stresses me out, and that's why I lash out', I would have a lot more sympathy. It's this weird 'I wear a mask because I care; and non-mask-wearers don't care'.
Oh I've really got to calm down. It's just a bad day.

Absolutely this 100%
ISaySteadyOn · 26/10/2020 17:36

@DominaShantotto, Flowers. Sounds like you have had a hard day.

In my good news for today, taught the DCs how to play charades. They loved it! We made so much noise laughing that DH came in to see what was going on.

justasking111 · 26/10/2020 17:44

DIL phoned this morning in floods of tears over a minor domestic mishap. She is such a stoic lass normally, cheerful, busy running a home, business, two boisterous boys. Her own business is kaput in lockdown so working for OH. As @DominaShantotto says is is awful.

DominaShantotto · 26/10/2020 17:58

Time to start playing Rage Against The Machine on loop and drinking lots methinks.

MercyBooth · 26/10/2020 18:14

Yep - live under 1/2 a mile from the promised land who aren't. Fuckers in our borough just wanted the money.

permanentlyexhaustedpigeon · 26/10/2020 18:44

RATM is a perfect tonic @DominaShantotto.
thanks so much for your good wishes after self-pitying rant!

I just read back through the thread and realised that the originators of the 'be a chicken' campaign have clearly never met actual chickens. Our hens are made of stern stuff.

TheOrchidKiller · 26/10/2020 18:47

@DominaShantotto
I live on the fringes of "the worst part of the county" for covid, or so everyone has smugly been telling me today. Maybe I should hang an "unclean" sign round my PPE'd neck & ring a little bell? What has pissed me off is that DS & DH are still allowed to play football because it's an organised team sport & they have to leave their contact details. But I'm not allowed to meet a friend in a cafe.

County Hall car park has a testing centre in it & it looks like a major crime scene, with all the tents & floodlights.
