(Socially distanced of course and in strictest obedience of all localised lockdowns and 3 or 5 tiers and whatever illogic the powers that be can dream up next)

What does Drakeford mean by this? The supermarket will unseal the clothes aisle if you can bring in a torn jumper?!

@Worldgonecrazy
Welcome home
What’s left of it.
Try not to get sucked into the whirlpool of depression.
I’ll probably cry on Saturday
Then start to pull myself up by my bootstraps

Yes Tenerife... feels like my second home

WouldBeGood · 26/10/2020 13:35

@HitchikersGuide yes. I keep getting that surreal feeling.

What the actual fuck are we doing?

Orangeblossom7777 · 26/10/2020 13:36

On the app- if you go to do the check in after you take the phone underneath it says 'delete' you can just delete it...or even delete the thing at any time.

I wonder with the school meals thing they may u-turn and do something different. Some talk in Times of hinting at extending them or something, looking at it afresh...wonder if they may extend the cut off as they are limited to those mainly out of work

It would tie in to increase them to those working as well and a bit higher incomes - perhaps- not sure though.

Wales is now the land of the essential non-essentials and the non-essential essentials.

You can have a period, but try to catch the blood in an empty can of lager, love. In your old maternity knickers, obviously.

HitchikersGuide

Every day I become increasingly incredulous and horrified by the seemingly never ending list of rights and freedoms that people are willing to give up in the name of safety. Even when there's no evidence that these measures will help.

Recycledblonde · 26/10/2020 14:07

Went into Age Concern today to donate some good quality popular paperbacks which they are still accepting. The woman who took them said “we hate having books, if I had my way everyone would have to have bookburners”. We felt really welcome, either don’t accept books or take them with good grace.
Our high street was a very joyless place today apart from Waitrose which has been consistently cheerful and non dementory all the way through.

HitchikersGuide · 26/10/2020 14:18

I made the mistake of reading the actual legislation, as the guidance on the government and press websites is utterly unhelpful. The legislation is just bonkers. I know I'm repeating myself but I feel like I'm going mad...How on earth can these laws be seen to be reasonable or proportionate? And the government is seeking to undermine Judicial Review, one small way in which individuals can hold governments to account for unreasonable decisions. It's just bloody unbearable.

AllPlayedOut · 26/10/2020 14:19

Wow. What a terrible attitude to have towards someone who is kind enough to donate saleable goods to a charity, and to books.Sounds like she'll be delighted with the current restrictions and the misery they'll bring.

DominaShantotto · 26/10/2020 14:38

@BogRollBOGOF I tried one of those spicy quarterpounders... it nearly blew my head off!

Long time lurker here. Love these threads, make me feel sane unlike the Christmas one where everyone is keeping to the rules even where it might be a last Christmas for a loved one.

What I don't understand is that cases are rising but deaths aren't correspondingly increasing. Surely that's a good thing? I know the science is divided on immunity but surely the population generally is slowly getting more resistant to the worst of COVID.

Anyway, taking advantage of a hopefully much quieter London and doing touristy things this half term. I refuse to cower at home. What is the point?

Interestingly, a friend who is considered vulnerable, whilst being careful, is not letting this virus put her life on hold and getting on with things.

I haven’t been able to face reading Tier 2 legislation, I gather it’s 30+ pages.

I shoukd read it really.

The legal precedents are terrifying. Simon Dolan back in court this week but I don’t have any hope.

I tried to apologise elsewhere on here for the shit show that is Wales locked down aisles with so much non essentials. Vaughan Gething said at lunch time if your need is great have a quiet word with staff who will decide if your need is great enough, how bloody humiliating is that.

Well I am getting a pasting elsewhere. Non welshies I presume.

wtaf so if you go in with your naked shivering baby they might let you buy some baby clothes?

Wankers.

shinynewapple2020 · 26/10/2020 15:01

I am sorry about your mum @MercyBooth and agree it is unkind that elderly and confused people should be in hospital alone .

I feel I have to defend care homes above though and to say that even if residents are isolated in their rooms, they are a lot less alone or isolated as many, many elderly people who live alone within the community . Care homes should only be isolating residents in their room if there is a case of Covid on their floor / area or if they have recently returned from hospital . Otherwise they should be able to see the other residents within the community. And even if they are isolated in their rooms they have the care staff coming in to see them several times throughout the day . I've been told by staff where my mum is that many residents don't get visits from family members in normal times due to the distance they live and that the video chats that they've introduced since March have enabled them to have contact they otherwise wouldn't have had . Even so, I think where they are infection free they could have a system to occasionally test interested family members when they test staff to ensure they are virus free and allow to visit the day they get negative test

I feel for the staff - how on earth are they meant to decide whether your need is essential?

I did wonder why Wales did not ban amazon and non essential parcels as New Zealand did. Well now I know the welsh government has done a deal with amazon.

Went into a tourist information place at the start of September to buy a book with walks in the area - assistant took our book by holding it with the sleeve of her jumper, put it on the counter (saying sorry you have touched this) then went to the shelf and picked up another theoretically untouched book (didn't like to tell her I'd flipped through them both!) which she scanned before putting it back on the shelf then shoved the card machine in our direction. She handed us the receipt when holding it through her jumper sleeve! OH commented - wonder if she will wash that sleeve before she serves another customer 😂😂

@AllPlayedOut

I've found it interesting that a disproportion of us on this thread live with neurodiverse conditions either ourselves or within the household.

It is interesting. I have autistic and dyspraxia.

Snap! Me too.

Realised my anxiety is because I have no choice but to break a rule. I can choose which rule but either way I have to break one. Doctors say that due to the intersection of my various disabilities plus a heart condition, I should not wear a mask because it would be bad for my health. Society atm says I should because otherwise I am a bad person and might kill someone. So, health or societal ease?

I think keeping to the health one will be better for me, my family, the NHS, and wider society. But breaking the other will be v hard.

Definitely not sarcasm, she said books are a nuisance.
IAintentDead · 26/10/2020 15:37

I love the way some of the Ds say that if you have 7 for Christmas you are breaking the rules and 'putting everyone in danger' so instead they are following the rules and visiting different bits of the family at different times (who I suspect will also be meeting others) which they think is not putting anyone in danger because they are following the rules. Hmm

I'd be far happier spending Christmas in one family group however big than moving round seeing a bigger number of people at different times.

BogRollBOGOF · 26/10/2020 15:40

ISay, remember it is not breaking the rule to not wear one for your health.

But it is hard when you feel conspicuous. Especially when you know there are twats out there. But at least many are just gobby keyboard warriors. They are less present out in the real world.

OP posts:
justasking111 · 26/10/2020 15:43

It is important to remember the keyboard warriors are mute in the real world, you could be seeing them in the supermarket where they blink wordlessly behind their masks in the queue and save their bile for their keyboard outpourings. It would be nice to unmask them sometimes though Grin
