I wish I could say I am shocked. But unfortunately this is the government we have, and it is expected that they will always do the cruel/stupid [insert unpleasant adjective here] thing.

It's clear there is a magic money tree, but only for Tory cronies, not the poor.

And the comment about ‘nationalising children’ 😡and ‘absent parents’ when the country is led by one 😲

Rudolphian · 21/10/2020 21:50

I wouldn't expect anything less.
They've got billions to give to their Tory cronies.
Can't spare a penny for the kids though.

@TheDrsDocMartensbI missed that....could you post a link?
So rage-inducing that he is an absent parent himself and gets away with it because he is a toff who is above us all and can do what he wants

Now more than ever we need to do everything to try to alleviate the food poverty in this country. Really disappointing.

zaphodbeeble · 21/10/2020 21:52

Absolute disgrace

Why on earth have we got food poverty? We have seen that money can be conjured up when needed, and that austerity was a trick. We are a rich country. Apparently.

I assume meals are still subsidised for MPs and can be claimed as an expense?

TBHno · 21/10/2020 22:08

Disappointing, but not surprising.

I just wish that Labour would sort themselves out and become a worthy opposition Sad

ssd · 21/10/2020 22:09

Says everything you need to know about the tories. I pity England when we get independence, you're f**d then.

Blueemeraldagain · 21/10/2020 22:11

I found this: “Bassetlaw MP Mr Clarke-Smith asked: "Where is the slick PR campaign encouraging absent parents to take some responsibility for their children?”

They sicken me.
Billions going into HS2 so high flyers can shave what, 20 minutes off a train ride because their time's so fucking valuable.
Manchester and children? Not a bean more than they can get away with.

Yep. Just Google it. I don't have the energy right now

Fucking disgusting. I'm furious. That comment about nationalising children is one of the worst things I've heard in a long time, which is really saying something.

stardance · 21/10/2020 22:19

Just makes no sense! They're on another planet.

The annoying thing is they will be voted in time and time again.

I pity England when we get independence, you're fd then.
Yep we are. And I fully expect independence to happen soon.

This is my wish too. So depressing not having anyone to vote for.

These are the people who voted to deliberately impoverish disabled people. Who deliberately discriminated against people with mental health disabilities trying to claim disability benefits until the courts forced a stop to the most blatant instances of it.

This is the outcome I expected. Sadly.

We are a horrible society.

PhoebeSnow · 21/10/2020 22:25

It’s sickening, those bastards , all of them from whatever party , get subsided meals and bars plus their expenses paid gives me the rage, a shower of shits!

user116439526896 · 21/10/2020 22:29

Austerity was purely ideological. It is terrible economics as a policy. I wish people would stop repeating all the bullshit they've been fed about pots of money and all the rest.

But they did a great job of convincing people an economy is the same as a household budget when the two are not remotely comparable. The government can literally print itself more money, for starters. (And yes, I am aware printing money has implications but it's not a bad thing to do in and of itself as part of a bigger picture.)

The problem with politicians, all of them, is that they live so far removed from the normal people that they can't adequately represent the normal people.

We left the UK 2 years ago and I thank my lucky stars most days, certainly since the start of 2020.

I'm really sad for my friends still there though. I just don't see how it will get better for them for a long time.

Where are you living now?

I’ll give them 7 days before a U-turn. The absolute turds.
