I wish I could say I am shocked. But unfortunately this is the government we have, and it is expected that they will always do the cruel/stupid [insert unpleasant adjective here] thing.

Ahh, you’re one of those kinds of people that can never be wrong eh.

You really should open your mind to the fact that other people’s experiences may be different to yours.

Plus - maybe read the whole thread if you are going to try and engage with specific posters.

No, I’m one of those people who doesn’t read something in a post that isn’t there.

And obviously I’ve read the whole thread and have engaged with several posters, not just you.

@Oblomov20

I was actually shocked. I mean I knew they were bad. But really? They've named most of the MP's in the tabloids. Hopefully it'll get into the local news and their constituents won't vote for them again.
I've written to mine to tell him I'm ashamed of him. He's a brexiteer who likes to dog whistle that Britain is a "Christian country" so I shouldn't think he gives a stuff what I think of him.

Well i doubt this will improve the figures on self isolation. Why would ppl self isolate when they know their kids will go hungry if they lose their job.

Tillygetsit · 23/10/2020 00:47

This made me cry. Are we so morally bankrupt that we let children go hungry in this country? What a fucking disgrace.

This is absolutely spot on.

Pomegranatespompom · 23/10/2020 09:27

It’s an absolute disgrace, unbelievable really. I know it won’t help much, but I’m going to do a food bank shop later.

Oblomov20 · 23/10/2020 09:38

Disgrace. Hardly surprising though.

fussychica · 23/10/2020 18:34

Only 5 Tory MPs went against the govt. One has resigned her post in protest, Caroline Ansell. Well done that woman! A Tory with a conscience.

The MPs subsidised restaurant continues to offer a sirloin steak with all the trimmings for little over a tenner to people who earn in excess of £80k plus expenses while children who have no control over their deprivation go hungry.

They say we are all in this together. BollocksAngry

zaphodbeeble · 23/10/2020 19:05

I don’t think they were expecting the massive backlash they’ve got for this - which says it all really

longwayoff · 24/10/2020 08:51

Ben has just 'explained' himself on breakfast TV. Miserable little beast and ignorant and smug with it.

Pomegranatespompom · 24/10/2020 09:00

@longwayoff just saw that. The interviewer couldn’t hide her disgust !

longwayoff · 24/10/2020 11:19

Just makes me despair, really. Here's some disadvantaged children. 'What can we, as MPs, completely paid for by the taxpayer with subsidised food and generous expenses, do to make their lives worse?" Can't expresist my contempt sufficiently. Well done Naga Munchetty, usually the most restrained of interviewers.

The brass neck of this mp who voted against the free school provision in the holidays Angry

Quite. It's his prerogative to vote against it, though I disagree with that too, but to then ask to get publicity for it Hmm

Maybe Angela Rayner would have a suitable word.

MushMonster · 29/10/2020 10:55

Not surprise there.
We are giving extra to food banks.

acerred · 29/10/2020 11:11

Maybe he should ask them for free publicity instead of a business that is doing the governments job for them then if you mean that the tories are doing that.
longwayoff · 29/10/2020 11:32

Yes, I've had the pleasure of opening up the local paper and seeing my local Tory MP gurning away and glad handing the volunteers at yet another newly opened food bank in this area. Frankly, it's not a good look.

Our local paper has ceased production, or at least stopped delivering it so it's online only so I've been spared that pleasure.
longwayoff · 29/10/2020 12:42

Oh that's a shame, I do love a local paper, I'd have thought that the perpetual correspondence about people not clearing up after dogs would have been enough to keep them going, albeit interrupted occasionally by a flirtation with local politics. Sorry you've lost a small pleasure.

acerred · 29/10/2020 12:46

If it means I don't see the Tory mp gurning then it's worth it, it was so poor that it'd go straight in the recycling bin anyway.
MushMonster · 29/10/2020 12:46

@acerred I meant my family and I are buying food and putting extra in the food bank boxes at the supermarket
Trying to compensate for their negative to provide free lunches

longwayoff · 29/10/2020 13:35

Fair enough. Sadly, I feel a sense of satisfaction in getting my free Times or Telegraph from Waitrose once a week and transferring to its rightful place lining a cat tray. Sad but true.
