FFS Stollen Bites are back and I cannot stop eating them! What's your christmas food downfall?

Why did I buy them? WHY?
Little bites of deliciousness. Already out in the shops in October and now in my cupboard. And soon to be excess weight on my scales.
Sigh.
They are addictive, it's not my fault.
They fell into my basket.
I suspect it will happen multiple times between now and Christmas.

On top of everything else, now the stollen bites are going to make me fat. (Because it has nothing to do with me).

Which Christmas treat is your downfall?

Aldi Florentines

Waitrose shortbread selection box. They are usually £4 a box but I know they go to half price a few weeks before Christmas for a week on special offer. I bought 10 last year but some were for presents. ( I think I kept 5 for me)

Marzipan fruits from M&S. I only go to M&S food at Christmas to buy Christmassy food so they may sell them all year round, good job the shop is not close!

It's when Tesco start doing the finest festive nuts. And like little Christmas squirrels, DH and I gather them in to ensure we have enough supply for the festive period.

After Eights, Lindor (especially now they've done a salted caramel), stilton and port.

Sexnotgender · 19/10/2020 11:03

I bought Lidl dark chocolate florentine’s this morning, I blame you all.

Fifthtimelucky · 19/10/2020 13:27

Stollen for me too. I love the Tesco Finest ones but I always buy some of the bites too. I usually buy a couple of packs of Lebkuchen but I'm not personally that keen on them. Ditto mince pies.

My other downfall is brandy butter (I always eat too much for the pudding so end up putting it on the cake too).

And there is always too much chocolate in the house...

viques · 19/10/2020 14:45

@viques

Someone told me last year that they had bought baileys fondant fancies. I looked and searched for them but no joy.

Hope they come back this year........

I have found some. Tesco. Just one box bought for testing reasons, which I am about to do.

I may be gone some time.........

MadamShazam · 19/10/2020 14:47

Yep, the chocolate covered ginger hearts with apricot jam. They are so cheap that I buy a bag every time i'm in Lidls, and have the lot eaten by the next day. Blush

LaBellina · 19/10/2020 14:48

Lebkuchen
Quality Street (albeit technically speaking they are not Christmas sweets)

crochetmonkey74 · 19/10/2020 14:55

There's these little square German lebkucheny things called Dominos

I could eat a packet a day easily but I can't find them as easily these days- they used to sell them in LIDL

MorrisZapp · 19/10/2020 14:59

Quality Street, or even better, the Waitrose version of Quality Street

MummBraTheEverLeaking · 19/10/2020 16:15

Speaking of Baileys, picked up some Choco Leibniz Baileys biscuits in Tesco last week. They are the balls. 🤤

LatteLover12 · 19/10/2020 16:15

Damn you OP! This is all your fault!

Quality Street fruit creams (I've made a start already), Yule log, Christmas dinners (as many as possible), lots of cheese and crackers and leftover sandwiches. I could just eat and eat ...

VictoriaBun · 19/10/2020 16:18

I made a dozen mince pies yesterday with a almond and butter pastry. My dh has ate 5 already !

JMAngel1 · 19/10/2020 16:19

I swore in Aldi when I saw the stollen bites last week Grin
I will not submit until December.

JMAngel1 · 19/10/2020 16:20

Whaaat? Cherry and Amaretto - are you freakin kidding me?!!!

IHaveBrilloHair · 19/10/2020 16:25

I'm all about the cheese, so the fancier ones at Christmas I love.
I once had 17 types for two of us.

Franticbutterfly · 19/10/2020 16:30

Lidl stollen bites. I've been known to travel 30 miles to get them.

PixelatedLunchbox · 19/10/2020 17:35

I tried Sainsburys four pack of mince tarts (the ones from the bakery in a plain clear plastic thingy) and they are orgasmiclly good Shock

Don't suppose you dm me the pastry recipe? Blush
Iwouldlikesomecake · 19/10/2020 17:43

All the German Christmas foods.

But this thread called to me because my phone background is a photo of my manic looking, slightly cross eyed husband eating a full size stollen out of the packet, about to shove it in his face. Grin

He has been known to eat a whole stollen in one go as ‘lunch’. I don’t approve of this but I find it quite impressive in a weird way!

Emma10702 · 19/10/2020 17:55

I picked up florentines, after 8s and fruit pastille tubes in Aldi today. The last 2 years, M&S have done a mince pie creme liqueur which is amazing but I think nuts been discontinued. I need to find a replacement.

LatteLover12 · 19/10/2020 19:22

Sorry @JMAngel1 I couldn't resist them and I've already eaten half the packet 😂

VictoriaBun · 19/10/2020 19:38

@PixelatedLunchbox
Here is the pastry recipe:
Makes 12.
200g Plain flour
40g Golden Caster Sugar
75g Ground Almonds
125g Butter , fixed
1 Large egg, beaten
Place sugar, flour , ground almonds and butter in a bowl and rub in until fine breadcrumbs.
Add egg slowly , and bring together to make pastry. Cover in cling film and chill in fridge .

That's it ! Obviously make as per your usual mince pies. Bake in oven for 20 MINS 200° . I brush mine before going in oven with milk , make a small whole in each one and a tiny sprinkle of sugar .
