FFS Stollen Bites are back and I cannot stop eating them! What's your christmas food downfall?

Why did I buy them? WHY?
Little bites of deliciousness. Already out in the shops in October and now in my cupboard. And soon to be excess weight on my scales.
Sigh.
They are addictive, it's not my fault.
They fell into my basket.
I suspect it will happen multiple times between now and Christmas.

On top of everything else, now the stollen bites are going to make me fat. (Because it has nothing to do with me).

Which Christmas treat is your downfall?

Tesco do a pretzel, peanut, malted chocolate balls and salted caramel buttons mix. I have no idea why it’s supposed to be festive but we got the first bag of the year this week and I am giddy.

bakingdemon · 18/10/2020 21:43

This year it will be M&S chocolate panettone

Pomegranatespompom · 18/10/2020 21:43

I love stollen bites, also mince pies from Sainsburys (the 4 in the clear pack - it's the pastry !), trifle violet creams from Fortnums.
Oh and chocolate covered Brazil nuts.

Stumpedasatree · 18/10/2020 21:43

@GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER and others who make their own mince pies, can you please post a recipe especially if it is with lovely pastry? I can do the mincemeat bit just not got the pastry right yet!

Itsatoughgig · 18/10/2020 21:46

@AdditionalCharacter

I put three bags of lebkuchen in my trolley on Friday, luckily for me DH has hidden them until December.
@AdditionalCharacter LTB 😂
PhryneP · 18/10/2020 21:52

Marks usually have a good selection of Christmas chocolates. Not too expensive

PixelatedLunchbox · 18/10/2020 21:55

My xmas downfall? MINCE. PIES. Shock

PixelatedLunchbox · 18/10/2020 21:57

And OMG that Deluxe Butter Fudge from Lidl. Confused

GetRid · 18/10/2020 22:00

Divine Dark Chocolate Mint Thins.

You can never go back to After Eights once you've tried the Divine version.

lazylinguist · 18/10/2020 22:04

Stollen bites too. But only Booths' ones will do! I tried Aldi ones, but they're just nowhere near as good.

Yogawithmydog · 18/10/2020 22:27

Uh oh.

Also love panettone. Bet that's awesome.

There may be trouble ahead ... 🎶Grin

Cheeselets and flakey pastry mince pies I love them, if I go to the co op I buy one pack of four, once a fortnight.

whoknows1230 · 18/10/2020 22:56

@OnCandyStripeLegs, I’m pretty sure I saw praline marzipan bats in Aldi this week

SynchroSwimmer · 19/10/2020 00:48

Ritter sport marzipan chocolate - Lidl and Salted Caramel mince pies - Aldi

I do a shortcrust base , half butter to flour, then put mincemeat on top, then instead of a pastry lid I top each one with a dollop of frangipane paste made with the zest of an arrange, a few flaked almonds on top then bake.

Inkpaperstars · 19/10/2020 01:01

It's lebkuchen for me too, the ones with the thin icing. Oh dear. I'd forgotten till I saw this thread.

LatteLover12 · 19/10/2020 02:24

@Stumpedasatree look for Nigella's star topped mince pie recipe. There's the pastry & the filling & they're both delicious.

MinnieMountain · 19/10/2020 08:08

I discovered 1 person sized Christmas puddings yesterday. I'll have to stick to one a week.

Proudling · 19/10/2020 08:18
@Proudling that sounds good! Any chance you will share the recipe please?
I’ve sent it to you on DM Grin

Proudling · 19/10/2020 08:20

@ColleagueFromMars just tagging you so you can check your DM’s as not sure if quoting you tags you or not.

Bubbletrouble43 · 19/10/2020 08:22

@Getrid as an after 8 lover I can't wait to check those out!

Ariela · 19/10/2020 08:33

Home made mince pies with Waitrose Amaretto mincemeat. You have to buy this by early November or it is sold out.
I do not buy an extra jar, hide it in the cupboard and dip into it regularly

wendz86 · 19/10/2020 08:47

Cheese footballs and boursin cheese. Ordered some of the cheese for my birthday next week .

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 19/10/2020 08:49

@stumpedasatree, sorry, but I just use ordinary shortcrust pastry, made with hard Stork or similar, in my trusty old Kenwood Chef. I usually use SR flour, too - rarely have any other.

Half fat to flour, and 1 x 5 ml tbsp of water per about 50 g of flour. That rolls out nice and thin - one reason I make instead of buying is that I really don’t like thick pastry. They go in a trad shallow bun tin, not a deep ditto.

IMO the filling is sweet enough anyway, especially given how many we devour from 1st Dec right through until past New Year.

hellisotherpeopleandhorlicks · 19/10/2020 08:49

Oh gosh sorry didn't expect so many replies! Would have been back but was busy eating my body weight in stollen bites. Now gonna read through and want to EAT EVERYTHING
Baby kept me up all night, ergo I deserve more stollen bites
